Former Celtics coach Ime Udoka could draw the attention of the Raptors and Rockets, depending on how their coaching situations shake out after the season, according to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com.
There have been some rumblings regarding Nick Nurse’s status in Toronto and if the two parties decide to separate, Udoka would be a candidate to replace him, a league executive told Bulpett.
The Rockets would be interested in Nurse guiding their young, rebuilding team if he becomes available and they decide to change coaches, according to Bulpett, who adds that Houston would also explore the possibility of hiring Udoka if don’t retain Stephen Silas.
Bulpett previously reported that teams had begun the vetting process regarding Udoka. He won’t return to Boston’s bench after Joe Mazzulla had the interim tag removed. Udoka was rumored to be a candidate for the Hawks’ vacancy before they hired Quin Snyder.
Udoka was suspended for reportedly having an improper relationship with a subordinate. Udoka former boss, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, is hopeful he will get a second chance to be a head coach.
“Ime was and is and always will be a great friend, and so you can imagine that I was deeply disappointed and hurt for him, for everybody involved,” Popovich said. “It’s a difficult situation for him, and my hope is that he will bounce back and find a home.”
Ime!!! Great coach, can’t wait to have him back in the League! Shouldn’t have been gone to begin with, smhh.
Lol
Facts
Wtf you talking about? You want to talk about how minorities treated look no further than the city of Boston.
Dude. What are you even saying? You sound ridiculous lol
Anyone would be better than Silas. He’s the NBA version of Jason Garrett. The rockets need a hard nosed coach who won’t take any slack who will make the youngins work their a$$’s off. It’s been an embarrassing year as a rockets fan. To think their startling lineup could be
Kpj
Eric Gordon
Tari
Mobley
Jarrett Allen
Sad times indeed
That would be a startling lineup considering none of those men are still on the rockets lol. That’s not Silas fault either so…yeah…anyways…lol
Except the 2 that are
Did I ask for your opinion? Don’t you dare talk to me like that.
Facts forsake narcissist and the ignorant. You’ll be fine
It wasn’t an opinion. He was correcting you because you put out false info. I never said it was on Silas that isn’t the lineup, the players haven’t made much improvement since being drafted, that I blame on Silas
You would never say that to Silas face!
Sure I would I’d say go meet your brother from another mother Jason Garrett and lead coaching a basketball team to the people who actually know what they’re doing. Silas was brought in to tank for 3 years and the job is done. Time to move on
How dare you!
Sorry son didn’t mean to offend you. Here’s a lollipop now go sit in the corner quietly. Thank you
Apology accepted just watch it
Or the big bad wolf will come get me?
Is basketball a game to you?
basketball is sports entertainment nothing more. If you read about that Jets season ticket holder who happened to be a lawyer trying to sue the jets over rigged games you would’ve seen how the judge said look at the back of the ticket, it simply gains you entry into an arena to watch sports entertainment. After that I stopped taking sports seriously
What more would it be than entertainment? It’s just rules someone made up and agreed on, and they charge money to watch it. Case closed. Not brain surgery…
It’s as real as WWF
Let’s see you do a backflip off the top rope and land through a table.
I’ll wait.
That’s your argument? It’s already been proven that refs could shave points in either way to let any team win. What more do you need?
Damn I thought that Popovich said support all women?
Interesting the raptors would fire Nurse considering he got helped guide them to a title and has done a good job developing talent. FVV was a g leaguer, GTJ was hardly getting playing time in Denver, Scottie when drafted everyone thought it was a port decision at first, Siakims when from bench scrub to all star and all nba player and OGs improved leaps and bounds.
If anything it’s been about a lack of trades. They waited all the way till the deadline to get Poeltl and look at the difference he’s made.
I think Udoka would be great for them but I just don’t think it’s Nick Nurses fault and I think he would easily find another job elsewhere. Not sure if Houston is the greatest place for any coach, yes they have young talent but it’s all rather meh. Looks like a tough gig that one
Uh, GTJ came from Portland, not Denver. His playing time in his last season there was 30.8 minutes a game BTW. Siakim has become better under Nurse, but he also became more of an offensive focal point after Leonard left, which has helped shape his All-Star numbers.
Scottie being a stud and Jakob’s return are Ujuri, not Nurse.
Don’t get me wrong, overall I think he’s a good coach, but I don’t think he’s a great one. Teams have figured out how to play against the position less Raptors, and he hasn’t been willing to make the adjustments needed to get the advantage back. His backcourt depth is weak, especially at the backup PG spot. Why not more minutes for Barnes there?
Later in games I see OG just sitting in a corner waiting for the ball while Fred and Pascal play Iso. As your best 3Point shooter and a guy who can score at the rim as well, why is OG not getting the ball more late in close games?
I am not sure on either coach for the Rockets. Silas I think will be done. Would he had done better if had Harden and Westbrook not sure. Not to say these two would not be great but could other coaches be on bubble they could look at. Nurse has struggled with Toronto since they won it all, Silas I wonder if could coach a better team. I respect him and hope someone can come in to Houston and turn the Rockets around
Nurse has not struggled since they won. They outperformed expectations last year. This year they had a flawed roster, but adding Poetle makes a difference. I would judge Nurse this year based on how they perform in the playoffs, with Poetle I’m expecting some adjustments.
This story reads like it has been sent from Udoka’s agents office to drum up interest in him…
The Pistons should also take a look at Udoka. It’s time to move on from Casey.
But why
If a team wants to win, they would hire Udoka
What happened with Nurse this year? He was praised so highly coming into this year. Masai backed him up like he was a King when the LAL rumors swirled.
Their lineup is so generic it’s hard to scapegoat any one player so it falls on Nurse.
He’s still highly regarded. Some players have issues because Nurse is hard-nosed and demanding. And Nurse doesnt care because he’s making $10m a yr.
Well, part of it is he can’t seem to get out of his own way. Dude runs players into the ground even in games that turned into blowouts well before he pulls the starters. He seems to be easily worst in the league in this regard.
And it’s all made worse by the fact that the Raptors employ an aggressive—and thus tiring—defensive scheme. All of those minutes and activity are just begging players to get hurt or burnt out before the end of the season. Yes, the team has had injuries and depth concerns, but even with a full roster he hasn’t changed. Can’t feel great to have a head coach with such an obvious, correctable flaw that is too hopeless to do anything about it. It also hampers the development of the young players on the bench.
I’ve also heard rumblings about his offensive schemes, but I haven’t watched enough Raptors games to comment on that.
Not saying I would get rid of Nurse, but I do get some of the frustrations involving him.
