Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards faces assault charges after missing a potential game-tying shot to conclude Tuesday’s Game 5 loss in Denver, which eliminated Minnesota from the playoffs, multiple sources tell Jake Shapiro of DenverSports.com.
After sprinting off the court into the tunnel following the game, Edwards allegedly picked up a folding chair and swung it, hitting a female security guard and a second female employee, per Shapiro. Both women were reportedly injured and asked to file charges, though neither injury was serious.
The Denver Police Department confirmed that they were called to the scene and cited Edwards for two counts of third-degree assault, according to Shapiro.
The Wolves’ team bus was held up by police after the game in order to cite Edwards, a source tells Shapiro. Part of the alleged incident appears to be shown at 21 seconds into the following clip taken from NBA TV (Twitter video link).
As Shapiro writes, in Colorado third-degree assault carries a potential jail punishment of up to 18 months and/or a fine of up to $1,000. It is a class-one misdemeanor. According to Chris Hine of The Star Tribune, Edwards is due to appear in a Denver court on June 9.
The Timberwolves released a statement regarding the incident.
“We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this moment.”
Slide easy, greasy. Welcome to loser town.
2 counts huh? $2000 ain’t much to the kid but up to 36 months in jail will definitely hurt though I doubt he’ll even see the inside of a cell.
He won’t see the inside of a courtroom either, in fact, he won’t even talk to a lawyer.
A misdemeanor is still a crime. He’ll have to see the inside of a courtroom and talk to his lawyers when it’s time for his arraignment.
Then after he gets fined he’ll use his lawyers as negotiators and intermediaries for the settlements with the two ladies after they file civil suits.
It’s more likely he’ll pay the women off and only really have a short convo with his lawyer to decide how much. Money is a nice thing to have.
It ain’t like he jumped the crowd and pulled a Ron Artest!!( Sorry, MetaGrandDarthVader or whatever he’s changed his name to nowerdays) just an accident after doing something stupid in frustration.
This fake, never happened. I was there
I’m Anthony Edwards and it did happen. Nice try.
Yea, no
I’m the folding chair and I’m filing charges for damages.
I’m old enough to remember when a Texas Ranger player did the same thing. It will be a slap on the wrist.
Well his season was bookended by dumbass moves…
Jocks these days need to check their privilege…
These Timberwolves need to duke it out in a battle Royale after their season ends.
Why do so many of these athletes do the dumbest things possible?
Because they are human beings and that’s what humans do
Wtf you doing Kermit??
Butthead
Watch the videos! This is completely ridiculous! He didn’t do anything maliciously. Denver is really reaching on a weak case. Nothing will happen to him.
I’m sure he didn’t intend to hurt anyone, but when you pick up a chair and start swinging it around you put yourself in a difficult spot. That woman clearly got hit by the chair, and anyone will tell you that it’s a good idea to press charges in case there are any medical issues as a result of the incident. The people that got hit by the chair are doing the right thing. Perhaps they will drop the charges if no medical issues are confirmed. That would be fine too.
“anyone will tell you that it’s a good idea to press charges” yes and its especially good to do on a millionaire or better a billionaire.
It’s a shame they HAVE to file charges. He could be a stand up person and make it right afterwards, but due to the sheer amount of crapholes, a police report is needed to ensure the situation is rectified. much more society driven than these two women looking for a payout.
Bingo. Hard to imagine anything real comes of this. Edwards likely pays both women and moves on. However, what’s done is done, and he did cause injury to two people.
Boy it sure looks like nothing on the video. I’m assuming there was more than caught on the broadcast, or this is BS.
The Wolves are the most absolutely worthless franchise in USA pro sports and should have been flung into the sun 10 years ago and its only been downhill since then. Just a disgraceful franchise, absolutely worthless to the NBA.
Yikes…might wanna talk to a professional. Not worth getting this stressed over a game. Life is short, enjoy it with loved ones.
Especially since he’s extrapolating the actions of one individual to characterize an entire organization
Interesting; I thought you were going off last year about how Memphis deserved this status. What changed?
These of the words of someone who has watched how Glen Taylor has operated the Wolves…
New ownership is trying but still has old Glen making final decisions…
Unintended harm never results in jail time under the law.
When nobody is severely injured, maimed or killed
Edwards will pay these 2 women who just turned an easy buck, into a much larger, and even easier buck.
