As he prepares to return from his one-game suspension, Warriors forward Draymond Green delivered a defiant message in an interview with Kendra Andrews of ESPN.
Green was ejected from Game 2 and given the suspension for stepping on the chest of Kings big man Domantas Sabonis. The league cited his past transgressions and called him a “repeat offender,” but Green said he won’t let the incident change his approach on the court.
“Draymond won’t be moved by the Draymond rule,” Green said. “I’ll continue to play the game how I play the game, operate how I operate, be exactly who I am because that leads to winning. If I was losing, they wouldn’t be creating Draymond rules. As long as they create Draymond rules, that means we’re winning and that’s great … but it doesn’t change Draymond.”
Green remained close to his teammates, even though he wasn’t permitted to be in the arena for Thursday’s Game 3, Andrews adds. He addressed the team before Wednesday’s practice, then worked out for a few hours at Chase Center prior to the game and returned to the arena after it ended.
The Warriors responded with a 114-97 victory to cut their series deficit to 2-1.
“My message to them was that none of it matters. What matters is the task at hand,” Green said. “To know and feel they have your back is huge. It’s a great feeling. My focus was being as involved as I could be.”
I hope the Lakers, Mavericks, or Pistons are ready for this guy. He’ll be quiet for a while and be a good citizen but you never know when he will come apart at the seams emotionally between the lines. He’s one of those guys who doesn’t know how to walk away, there must be a knee-jerk reaction and retaliation when he’s wronged or disrespected.
Perhaps there’s a team via sign and trade or with cap room that will give him 3 years and the clipboard to the defense plus provide airtime to motivate the squad at halftime when necessary. Maybe there’s a team that needs to get over the hump in the east? Heck maybe the Sacramento Kings need a guy like him? Put them over the top with a little toughness? Mike Brown could be a fan?
As a Grizzlies fan, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I really wish Dillon Brooks could just disappear off the face of the Earth sometimes
Geezus. Talking in 3rd person. Yeah, that dude is righteous. ::sarcasm::
As long as Draymond beats the Kings tomorrow and then closes out the series, nothing matters about what happened in this series.
Pretty interesting how well GSW played with Looney+Wiggins/Kuminga doing the Draymond role and GSW leading throughout, when the Draymond lineups lost…
If Green doesn’t pick up his option I see him gone next year. Warriors will use it to sign Donte for a longer extension.
Donte stinks, bring back Otto and pray he stays healthy. Donte straight up hacking into Moses Moody’s career – Moody is the far superior player, as is Kuminga. People really sleeping on how good Poole, Kuminga and Moody truly are. We would know by now if Kerr had a clue how to coach an NBA team other than “pray Curry goes off”.
Who is Donte?
Donte DiVincenzo, a scrub stealing minutes away from Moses Moody, a superior talent.
A nice win by a vet team. Kings missed a good chance here.
Dre is getting older. So his reflexes are not what they use to be. Players who age like this. Adopt a more, get away with stuff mentality. He’s going to be caught more often. Until another player sets him straight …….
DirtyDre …..
Money Green
Green says suspension does not change Draymond. It does change money
He now cuts his pay check in half
It means he’ll be the dirtiest player in NBA history. Imagine Draymond Stone Cold stomping a fallen Lebron or AD? -_-
But, you guys for years said the Warriors were so weak. Because they shot 3’s.
Imagine thinking Draymond Green is even 1/1o0th as dirty as anyone on those Pistons teams lol what a clown take, even Michael Jordan was 1000x more dirty than Draymond, playing dirty was normalized in the 80s, how dare you put Draymond not only on that tier but above them? You just personally hate him, this post is comically coping.
Wasn’t he given four years of a college education for free? How can he be this dumb?
Maybe it should Draymond…
Maybe Draymond has been in the Bay Area too long….he’s now channeling Rickey Henderson.
I don’t think I’ve seen Draymond hit a 3 pointer with my own eyes in the past 3 years, hes finished
Maybe that is because Draymond
Draymond said when he came into the league that Steph and Klay were better 3 point shooters. His job was to get them ball in their best shooting opportunities. This is common knowledge. The Warriors haven’t won any Rings because of his 3 point shooting. Most people know this.
So a suspension every series?
I mean he’s not exactly costing himself money… He did that when he punched Poole…
No team is going to put forth an offer that the Warriors will have to worry about…
And if Draymond demanda a max deal from the Warriors he’ll have to head to China…
All NBA fans are just going to have to cope: GSW is keeping everyone.
This guy is delusional referring himself in the 3rd person
