It seemed as though the Warriors had all the momentum after winning three straight games to go ahead 3-2 in their first-round series against Sacramento, which made their Game 6 home loss Friday night all the more stunning, writes Tim Kawakami of The Athletic.
Kawakami calls the 19-point defeat Golden State’s “most disappointing” performance since the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green started making the postseason in 2013. The locker room was understandably quiet and reflective afterward.
Still, the team remains confident it will be able to rebound and emerge victorious Sunday afternoon in Sacramento for Game 7.
“It’s up to us to go to Sacramento and do everything we did tonight — but opposite,” Thompson said. “And I know we will respond. I just know this team. I know these guys. I’ve played at the highest level with them and I know what we are capable of, and we will respond like the champions we are come Sunday.”
Here’s more from the Pacific:
- It’s time for head coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors to re-insert Draymond Green into the starting lineup in place of the struggling Jordan Poole, argues Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area, who points to Green’s experience of winning in high-pressure situations and his defensive acumen as reasons why the change should take place.
- The Kings made a “series-altering” adjustment in Game 6, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. They decided to go smaller and faster, with more shooting around De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, who both had terrific games. They went away from Alex Len as backup center and used Trey Lyles at the five, with Terence Davis, Kevin Huerter and Keegan Murray receiving more playing time, while Harrison Barnes and Davion Mitchell played less. “We knew we could run them a little bit and we took advantage of that tonight,” Monk said. “I felt it a little bit more on them. They were a little tired. We’re younger than they are. So we knew we could take advantage of that. We’re going to try to do the same thing Sunday.”
- Confirming a recent report from Mark Medina, president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank says the Clippers will “continue to build around” Kawhi Leonard and Paul George despite their injury troubles, as Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN relays. “Kawhi’s a ceiling raiser,” Frank said. “When you study past NBA champions, they have a top-five guy on their team, and Kawhi has shown that when healthy he can be the best player in the world. Paul is an eight-time All-Star now. So we’re going to continue to build around those guys and look for every which way [to improve around them].”
- Both Leonard and George are eligible for pricey contract extensions in the offseason, and the Clippers will discuss the matter with their star players when the time comes, per Youngmisuk. “Those guys are great players and they’re great partners and we want to keep them as Clippers for a long time,” Frank said. “And so we’ll look forward to those conversations. And the No. 1 goal is how can we build a sustainable championship team? And those guys have been great partners, so at the appropriate time, we look forward to sitting down with them.”
Curry is the best player in the game. And the Warriors are 4 time champions and 6 time WCF champs. But these Kings are legit in all aspects. It could go either way, but most likely Warriors will come out on top. But this series is just the beginning. The next few years will be Warriors or Kings coming out of the west
Curry is the best shooter in the game. Not even close to top 3 best player
True he’s Top 1
You were saying?
Warriors dynasty, like all others, is coming to an end.
That’s what everyone was saying 3 years ago. Very reminiscent to the narrative around Duncan’s Spurs.
This series is just the beginning of what? If the Warriors lose Sunday it is most likely the beginning of the end of their dynasty and the start of a rebuild. If they win Sunday they still have to beat both the Lakers and the winner of Denver/Phoenix to come out of the west as you predict. Given how mediocre they have been through most of the Kings series (like they were in the regular season) that is not a good bet.
The problem is you think they are mediocre, instead of acknowledging how good Kings been.
The fact you think they “have to” beat the Lakers shows the delusion in your argument. The only way Lebron can beat Curry, is if A. silver pulls another conveniently suspend Draymond scam like he did that one year. Other than that, Lebron has no chance as history has proven.
The Kings have not been that good. I watched over 60 Kings games this year and offensively they have not played anywhere near their best in this series. Murray, Huerter, and Sabonis have struggled shooting and of course Fox has been hurt the last 2 games. Your Lakers take is pure trash from a LeBron hater. The series would not be just Curry versus LeBron – the fact you don’t get that tells me you don’t know what you are watching or what you are talking about.
You cant build around them bc they are never there
Its why a guy like Russ could just come in and go carte blanche just fine
There is no system, reminds me of one of my fav quotes
“Chaos was the law of nature; Order was the dream of man”
There is no order with mid 30’s KL/PG
Clippers are a fail system …. Classic view of how hard it is to build thru FA and trades.
Yes and No imo
I can’t fault them for the first swing
They have had a ton of bad luck: still think the biggest question for that franchise is what lies ahead. I don’t think a single team has more hinging on next year than the Clips (maybe Mil)
They got a great owner tho, pretty much the opposite of the crypt keeper be4. That should play huge the next decade
He is a good owner. But his team needs help. And if rumors are true about Kawhi. Then a lot of help.
Warriors are great at basketball but not as good as their fans are at beating the traffic home *shrugs*
Warriors are a dirty team …… DirtyDre, PollutedPoole. Now Looney wants to be recognized. How the ref who threw the ball up. Did not call that foul. Should be investigated. Just a total failure of the rules. He is there to impose …….
fuliginouslooney …
You mean like when the Refs missed that shot to the head by the kings on Green in game 5 or how Sobanis pulled down Thompson by his shirt. Keep going on and pretend that everything is GSW fault.
All teams grab and pull to an extend. Certain players do it more. Dre is known for that. He probably could foul out every gm. Warriors have to be handsy. Cause they are small. If Looney did that to me. And I didn’t get a call from three refs. He would answer to me.
Kings are definitely a force to be reckoned with. If they win Sunday I’m jumping on the bandwagon for the rest of this year !!
Watching the game Friday really shows how tough it is to play at the top of your game night in Night Out, season after season. It just takes so much to repeat and to stay on top. The price you have to pay to do it again the next year is so great that many are not willing to do so.
You would think the Warriors would seize the opportunity in game 6 at home but it just goes to show you it’s not that easy. With a game 7 in the back of your mind maybe psychologically and especially at 32- 34 years old you let off the gas a little bit. It’s natural.
But I guess we perform best when we’re under the most pressure so fingers crossed Warriors come out on top Sunday. But this is no cake walk.., the kings are darn good. Love the excellent coaching adjustments by Mike Brown going small and going with offensive players.., sitting down guys not as great on offense. Mike Brown went almost Nelly like with small ball offense.
Like the article says you have to start Draymond Green game 7. Jordan Poole needs to come off the bench or the second unit has zero ball handler, offensive scoring or creation. Number 2, Poole needs to pick it up. 30 million starting next year for this? Poorly timed Turnovers and poor shooting are a bad combination.
Side note, De’Aaron Fox is really good !! Now that he can shoot the three there’s no stopping this kid.
They have to start Dray game 7
Freakin Monk has gone ape, kinda been their engine this series so far
I love the whole HAVE to face the lakers… uh who cares? The Warriors would beat them in 6 tops and the kings would legitimately smack them in 5. They do not match well against good shooting teams. The grizzlies can’t shoot. Dillon brooks is a B .. no Dillon brooks on the kings . It’s more like the lakers will now HAVE to face one of these 2
Monk is playing big this series. I didn’t know or forgot he played with Fox in college. Kings bench has played well. Still very young too.
