The Raptors have been granted permission to interviews a number of prominent assistant coaches for their head coaching job, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Toronto parted ways with Nick Nurse, who coached them to a championship, after the season. The Warriors‘ Kenny Atkinson, Bucks‘ Charles Lee, Suns‘ Kevin Young, Spurs‘ Mitch Johnson, Kings‘ Jordi Fernandez, Grizzlies‘ Darko Rajakovic and Heat‘s Chris Quinn are among the assistant they plan to interview. However, that list could expand.
Lee is one of the top candidates for the Pistons’ head coaching vacancy. Atkinson, of course, was previously the Nets’ head coach.
The Raptors will also look at ex-NBA head coaches, as well as NCAA and WNBA coaches. Regarding the latter, they have gained permission to speak with former Spurs assistant and current Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon. She led the Aces to last year’s WNBA championship.
As previously reported, they are also expected to interview current assistant coach Adrian Griffin.
Raptors have to be honest and have to look in the mirror ,and get back to respecting the regular season.
No idea what this means
Trade sample for the Raptors to copy and paste
Trade old men Westbrook and Beverley for 6 young talents who help Lakers to finish 16-7 record.
plain and simple
No idea what this means
someone has been drinking
Who do the Raptors have on their roster that they would get a player in return that was as good as DeAngelo Russell in that Westbrook/Jazz/Wolves trade? You’re not trading VanVleet or Siakam for any players of that caliber. You’ll get some draft picks and some mediocre players at best
If I were the Raptors front office I’d wait until I saw what the fallout is from the Bucks first round loss. If I were the Bucks first off there’s no way I’m firing Budenholzer but if I did take that lane I’d call up Nick Nurse for an interview.
I’d like to see Hammon get a chance to HC in the league.
I was going to ask about this. Is this the one team that would take a chance on Becky Hammon? I think they are and I think they should.
Coaching 16 small forwards is tough
Translation: Raptors are waiting for some coach that’s still in the playoffs
Good point perhaps that’s correct. But which of the remaining coaches will be available when the season is over? Or.., are you talking perhaps about one of the assistants?
They already messed up by letting the coach who helped them win their 1st and only championship. Should try to rebuild with him but oh well. Without Leonard this team would be equal to Minnesota
An interview with Becky Hammon for the open position of Head Coach DOES indicate that the Raptors are taking ………………………………………
A BROAD approach.
(No disrespect to Ms Hammon intended)
Open ended searches for coaches (or front office chiefs) usually don’t end well. Best to zip it, and figure out the short list below the radar. Then again, if Ujiri is looking for someone who thinks as highly of his roster as much as he does, then he may have to broaden it further.
