8:10pm: Herro broke the middle and ring finger on his shooting hand and is expected to be out appropriately four-to-six weeks, Chris Haynes of TNT tweets.
7:39pm: X-rays on Antetokounmpo’s back came back “clear,” according to Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer, Jamal Collier of ESPN tweets. “We’ll monitor him and see how he wakes up tomorrow,” Budenholzer said.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed Herro will miss the remainder of the playoffs, Darnell Mayberry of ESPN tweets.
6:38pm: Heat guard Tyler Herro suffered a broken right hand in Game 1 of the Heat‘s series against the Bucks, Marc Spears of ESPN tweets. Herro’s injury occurred late in the first half while diving for a loose ball.
Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo left Sunday’s game earlier in the half due to a lower back contusion, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets. Antetokounmpo suffered his injury when he crashed into Miami forward Kevin Love while driving to the basket.
Herro’s injury most likely is a season-ender, no matter how far the Heat might advance. Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists during the regular season. He’s a 38.3 percent career 3-point shooter.
In 40 career playoff games, he has averaged 14.0 points. Caleb Martin and Duncan Robinson figure to play more prominent roles in his absence.
Herro’s four-year, $120MM contract extension kicks in next season. Herro scored 12 points prior to the injury.
Antetokounmpo’s injury could be an even bigger development, depending on his ability to return for the remainder of the series. He had six points in 11 minutes before he was declared out for the game.
if giannis is out for the series, or at least not being 100% I could see Miami pulling an upset. Plus as a 76er fan it would keep the 76ers from having to play the Celtics in the 2nd Rd.
Uh…nope. Not happening.
That’s not how it works. It would be Miami vs Knicks or Cleveland.
Herro has a true shooters mentality, jacking up that shot with a busted hand.
That’s not how playoff seeding works lol…and as a 76er fan representing the 215, I want Boston! Defeating the evil empire would be the sweetest thing since Doc, Toney and Malone!
Andrew Toney, the Boston strangler. One of the greatest 6-3 shooting guards the league has had.
He would kill the Celtics. Damn I am rooting for the bucks though
Cept they won’t beat them.
That is a probability. TBH at their best I think they are the better team. But either way sports and competition is all about playing and hopefully beating the best…we will deservedly be underdogs, but I do think we are a live dog. There would be nothing sweeter than beating them
“There would be nothing sweeter than beating them”
Really? I would think you might want your team to actually win a chip, not just beat the Celtics in the second round.
You have 1 too many chromosomes.
Go kings baby
They sure looked good last night. De Aaron Fox is almost unguardable.. I didn’t realize his length even at his size. Add to that his quickness and that three-point shot he has now, could be a long series.
2 extremely similar teams, and a close matchup.
What actually happened with Herro’s hand? Before the replay I was expecting to see it got accidentally stepped on or caught as he slid by going for the ball. It didn’t appear either of those were the case.
I doubt they will reveal the actual footage. Those cowards are afraid of the truth…
Heat cant be even slightly healthy 1 time in 10 years. They’re cursed at this point. Herro getting hurt in the playoffs 2 straight years the same way too now lol.
Kevin Love is now exponentially more important than he already was for them. They obviously need him as a smallball 5 and floor space, but now they need him as a scorer off the bench, which he gave them in Game 1. Caleb and Nnamdi also obviously more important and they need more scoring from them. Nnamdi generally plays well vs them, so at least there is that. Milwaukee is Duncan Robinson’s worst matchup, so while I want him to play more, not against them
Heat should struggle against lineups with Portis or Giannis at the 5, so I’ll be watching for that, but this is a really big injury for them, obviously, and its extremely frustrating for that type of stuff to always happen to them, especially in the worst possible moments
It’ll be a close series if Giannis misses time…
If not… Bucks should take it easily…
Nice win regardless. Can’t see Heat winning. But as a Knick fan. I’d rather play Heat. I’m sure Cavs would too.
Cavs Knicks series is the one I am most interested in as an impartial fan with no rooting interest. Good luck
Although GA’s injury doesn’t sound like a long term thing, this version of MIL is really hard to assess without GA. If he misses even a few games or his play is significantly compromised, I think MIA has a real chance (even without Herro). Otherwise, I think last night was MIA’s high point, and MIL might win 4-1.
If Miami shoots like they did last night, and MKE doesn’t remember how to play better defense, I can easily see Miami winning the series.
It’d also be nice if Budenhumper didn’t pull guys when they’re hot (Portis in the first half, Middleton in the second).
So, if MIA (the worst 3 pt shooting team in the league to make the playoffs) continues to shoot 60% from 3 pt range, then you can see them winning the series? Wow. That’s some special insight.
Thanks. Yours was too.
