10:56am: League sources tell Haynes that Davis is expected to play in Game 6 (Twitter link).
8:57pm: The Lakers are hoping Anthony Davis will be ready for Friday’s Game 6 after leaving Wednesday night’s contest when he took an inadvertent elbow to the side of his head (video link), writes Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Davis and Warriors center Kevon Looney were battling for rebounding position midway through the fourth quarter when Looney’s elbow accidentally struck Davis in the temple. He doubled over in pain and was removed from the game on the next dead ball.
Davis was checked by the team’s trainer before being taken to the back for additional evaluation. He was transported to the locker room in a wheelchair after reporting that he was feeling “woozy,” but he was able to leave the arena along with his teammates without any help (video link).
McMenamin hears from a source close to the Lakers that there was no mention of a concussion during Davis’ examination. NBA on TNT sideline reporter Chris Haynes also stated that the early diagnosis appears to show that Davis didn’t suffer a concussion (video link).
“Obviously everyone saw he took a shot to the head, but we just checked on him,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “He seems to be doing really good already. That’s just where he’s at. That’s the status of it right now.”
According to McMenamin, a Lakers spokesman didn’t specify why Davis was taken out of the game and didn’t comment on his chances to play in Game 6. McMenamin adds that if further testing reveals that it is a concussion, Davis will have to complete the league’s protocol, which includes frequent monitoring along with exertion exercises, before being cleared to play again.
Glad Davis is okay from what I read elsewhere too. Would have been horrible to see him suffer any kind of injury that would prevent him from playing the next game.
It looks like the Lakers win the close games, which is disturbing for a warrior fan because game 6 should be tight. Both teams have blowouts, with the Warriors taking two and the Lakers one.
In any case Friday night is must see TV. I’m not confident in a Warriors win at all.., just hopeful !! Being on the road definitely doesn’t help.
Lakers are having trouble with the Curry p&r spamming to get AD outside the paint. Lakers need to diminish the impact of that play to have any chance IMO.
GSW had a close game in game #4 with Klay, Poole and Green being horrendous, and a totally unexpected Lonnie 4th quarter.
I want the Lakers to win, but im feeling this is going to 7 games.
Great points. Though I am concerned about game 6 in LA, if the Warriors survive I would be very confident in Game 7 in San Francisco. Hope it goes that far.
But you’re right. Klay has been crappy and that’s nothing to say of Devincenzo and the absolutely horrible disappearing act of Jordan Poole. One funny note is that Draymond Green has been scoring a little to try and make up for the inefficiencies of others.
This NBA drama is really playing, er…paying out for the owners.
What fun are sports without drama? Nobody watches games where you kinda already know the outcome. So, yeah, it does pay out for the owner.
When it is at least partially manufactured it’s lame. When the NBA essentially wants all series to go at least 6 games for more revenue, it’s lame.
That’s not the memo I saw from the Association offices. What was the date on that one.
dude its over, game 6 klay is gonna carry the dubs to a win
it wasn’t a elbow but forearm to the head. The video shows the elbow didn’t struck him but the forearm below the wrist. Just surprised because it wasn’t that bad on video.
It wasn’t even close. Glancing blow at that. Ad acting like he got hit by prime Tyson.
That was weird because it didn’t look that bad. Green falling on the court in game 4 was worse. Sabonis hit to the eye was much worse than the hit.
Sabonis and AD are on opposite sides of the injury prone spectrum. If Davis took that stomp to the chest he probably would have retired
“he probably would have retired” — hahaha that’s funny stuff. I was thinking similar
Dirty play from golden state? I for one am shocked!
I Would be more shocked if you didn’t play the victim card here to bash the warriors.
C’mon man, all those offensive fouls on the Lakers were BS. Especially Draymond pulling AD to the floor.
Stop
Yup that and AD out for the last 7 minutes of the 4th quarter Reeves made it a 9 point game just attack the rim in the end it’s over
Greens best game came after crying the last few games about free throws and should have been hit with technical fouls a few times Lakers need to yell all day at refs make them call it early and often it’s a different outcome
Ham was doing that complaining to the Refs all game long even when his team takes twice as many FTA. The Refs were not calling the flops on either team notice how 3 times a warrior player went down with no call too? reeves and Schroder are flops. I just wish they would call travel especially on lebron.
All season Lakers attack the rim top 2 in the league warriors dead last going to free throw line cut it out that’s why they don’t go enough to line that’s on the warriors
In game 3 warriors took almost the same amount of shots as the Lakers inside the 3 point line and ended up taking 20 less free throws. I am surprised how you can make claims when you know Lakers been on the receiving end of foul throws. Watch Reeves how when he drives he flops for free throws.
You do realize the difference between the team that shoots the most FTs in the regular season (Lakers 26.1) and the least (Warriors 20.2) is less than 6… not 20 like in the post season.
LAL have been all about LBJ’s legacy since he got there, but, from this point on in these playoffs, it’s all about AD’s legacy. LBJ fed his legacy sufficiently by getting the team to the playoffs (after missing last year), and then winning a round against the 2 seed. The guy who has to take them from here is AD, particularly in this matchup with 2 chances to win 1 game against a team that can’t do much against him on either end. He can’t mail it in.
AD so dizzy and imbalanced from a head shot that he needs a wheel chair to make it back to the locker room…no concussion…what could possibly go wrong with playing the next game…
