Former Lakers coach Frank Vogel interviewed for the Sixers’ head coaching job on Tuesday, John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia tweets.
Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer confirms that the New Jersey native was interviewed by Philadelphia’s brass as it searches for Doc Rivers’ replacement. Vogel was one of the big names that popped up after Rivers’ dismissal. Vogel was linked to the Bucks’ job but isn’t among the reported finalists.
Vogel was an assistant with the Sixers early in his career (2004-05). He was the Pacers’ head coach from 2011-16 and the Magic’s head coach from 2016-18. He got the Lakers’ job in 2019 and coached them to a championship in the Orlando bubble in 2020. He was dismissed after the 2021/22 season.
Vogel has a .526 career regular-season winning percentage and a .557 mark in the playoffs.
The Sixers are also expected to interview Nick Nurse, the Raptors’ former head coach, among other candidates.
ew no
I think Vogel is a good coach, he just landed the wrong gigs in IND, ORL & LAL. He’s not my 1st choice, but wouldn’t be the worst.
Embid must be thrilled
I am down with Vogel!!!
If Vogel has the energy for it, then this could be a great choice. Better if Harden leaves. Better still if Morey understands he’s not the HC.
Jim Boylan is available.
Yeah. So is 71-year old Brian (36-148) Winters.
Larry Brown is tossing his hat in the ring
What is Doc Rivers record in the playoffs?
As coach of the Clippers, Rivers has a postseason record of 27-32. One of his biggest blemishes with them includes dropping a 3-1 lead during the 2020 playoffs.
Rivers is 16-33 in playoff games where his team already has three wins. That’s a win percentage of roughly 32.7%, which is right around the same win percentage the lowly Charlotte Hornets mustered up during the regular season (32.9%).
What’s your point?
Doc had 5 bad years in Orlando, 3 terriblw years in Boston before Ainge acquired Garnett & Ray Allen, to join Pierce to form the Big 3. He stepped in s**t, bc if that didn’t happen, he would have been fired after 4 losing seasons. Instead they won a title. But he had the Big 3 for 5/6 more years, and made the finals 1 more year (blew 3-2 lead vs Kobes Lakers), and won nothing else . Then he had the best Clippers team ever and couldn’t get past Rd 2, 3 years in Philly-all rd 2 exits- 2 of which he blew 3-1 & 3-2 series leads. In the Atl series, up 3-1, he lost 2 18 pt 3rd Q leads! Basically, the 76ers can hire almost any coach, and improve.
NBA Head Coaches Playoff Record with Three Wins in a Series
Popovic 33-14
Kerr 23-11
Erik Spoelstra 21-11
Doc Rivers 16-33
Playoffs record winning percentage
Doc Rivers 51.7%
Frank Vogel 55.7%
Rivers is world best in regular season?
Clippers many wins
76ers many wins
Purple, because snakes can’t wear vests!
Vogel should get an offer somewhere.
Did Philly call the Lakers to ask them about their experience with Frank Vogel???
You mean his ring with them in the bubble? Don’t think they’re complaining, to be honest.
