WNBA Hall of Famer-turned-Pelicans executive Swin Cash is deftly juggling motherhood and her work with New Orleans, writes Rod Walker of NOLA.com (subscriber link).
“I’m not going to sit here and paint this rosy picture,” Cash said of her work-life balance. “Whenever I’m speaking or talking to other people, I tell them that it’s just about sacrificing. And if you’re willing to sacrifice, how much are you willing to sacrifice? My husband is an entrepreneur and we both played sports and understand teamwork, so we know what it’s like to be a team player and that helps us juggle it all.”
Now the Pelicans’ vice president of basketball operations and team development, Cash won three WNBA titles with the Detroit Shock and Seattle Storm while being named to four All-Star teams. She is the mother to two young sons.
There’s more out of the Southwest Division:
- The rebuilding Rockets will know just how high they’ll be picking in the first round after the NBA draft lottery on Tuesday. In the meantime, Kelly Iko of The Athletic takes stock of what some hypothetical Houston lineups would look like if the team is able to add one of 2023’s top prospects, including Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson, and Brandon Miller.
- The Mavericks face an interesting offseason after falling from a 2022 Western Conference Finals berth to missing the 2023 playoffs entirely. In a new mailbag, Tim Cato of The Athletic wonders if Dallas might be best served by looking to build through the draft and retaining most of its free agents this summer, rather than undergoing a full roster teardown around All-Star Luka Doncic. He also addresses how he feels about the rest of the club’s personnel, Jason Kidd‘s top strengths as a coach, and more.
- By not being named to an All-NBA team, Grizzlies All-Star point guard Ja Morant could actually help his Memphis’ future roster construction, as Mark Giannotto of The Memphis Commercial Appeal details. By missing out on the accolade, Morant will also lose potentially up to $40MM over the five-year course of his current contract. That money could be allocated to other Memphis salaries, with several key players presently on rookie scale contracts.
Ja costs himself more than he’d get in a single season and doesn’t learn his lesson…
Grizzlies are a dumspter fire…
The Knicks have to be happy to have RJ out of that draft… Between Zion’s health and Ja’s stupidity it looks like RJ will have the best career…
Ja was so easy to root for coming in. He’s an idiot. I also don’t understand ppl defending him. It’s similar to all of these other celebrities getting in trouble and getting “cancelled” or whatever. You might not be doing something that’s technically illegal, but if my work saw me doing this on social media I’d be gone already. This reflects poorly on Memphis and the NBA, not just Ja.
@scarlett that would be a good take had it not been taken directly from SAS or had it not been completely stupid. Other than that though, nice stuff
San Antonio Spurs?
I guess Pop would agree with that statement… He’d also take the one who could stay on the floor…
Yeah your right. Think about all the money the Knicks will save by RJ not being as good as Ja and demanding a rookie max deal.
Herro is better than RJ
Ja is out of control. He clearly didn’t mean any of what he said about change. I think the scariest part is that this guy is a father to a young girl and he’d rather take pictures with guns than his daughter.
There is no defending his actions. Even if you think it’s not a big deal, the league suspended him for 8 games 2 months ago. Obviously to the NBA thinks it’s a big deal.
Ja needs to be suspended 41 games, attend mandatory behavioral training, lose his Nike deal and his Powerade deal. I promise you he will not get the point until all of those things happen
Showing a gun isn’t a crime though, what would he be suspended for, offending people? He, and most of the league are from a culture that glorifies violence and gun use, it’s everywhere, it’s in every rap song it’s in every movie. Fair to take issue with all of that but to act like he’s the problem and not the culture he’s from is misdirected.
Ja was raised in the suburbs from a middle-class family lmaoo. Are you saying that because the league is predominantly black, they are all from gang culture??
What would he be suspended for?? Oh I’m not sure, maybe…
CONDUCT DETRIMENTAL TO THE NBA??!?
For promoting dangerous goods…
No different to promoting dangerous drugs…
Only in this case there’s no other intention in the design but to kill…
So it’s far more detrimental to the NBA than OJ Mayo who got 2 years…
I’m not crazy about photos with guns, but I also don’t need to see photos or videos of his daughter? Kind of an out of line comment — she’s a kid. Sickening.
Hey doofus, try and watch a Celtics game without seeing Deuce. I forgot that you don’t actually watch the games. Probably just a 2k guy
A. Why are you so focused on little kids? This is a basketball forum.
B. Deuce happening to appear in shots of the audience and postgame is way different than you asking Ja to take and post pictures of his young daughter. Don’t be a creep.
41 games ain’t enough…
His Denver actions cost him an All NBA spot and the money that went along with it…
That alone is more than a seasons worth in pay…
2 seasons minimum… 3 to make it comparable to the OJ Mayo suspension for painkillers…
