There are questions about whether the Warriors can make it work financially, but Donte DiVincenzo would like to remain with the team, writes C.J. Holmes of The San Francisco Chronicle. Speaking to reporters Saturday, DiVincenzo said he hasn’t decided whether to pick up his $4.7MM player option for next season or decline it and seek a long-term deal, either with Golden State or another team. The Warriors are limited to a new offer starting at $5.4MM, which would be 120% of this year’s salary.
The team signed DiVincenzo last summer to fortify its bench, which was his role for most of the season. He was inserted into the starting lineup during Andrew Wiggins‘ late-season absence, and he started the playoff opener. However, once Wiggins showed he was ready to contribute, DiVincenzo went back to the bench and struggled to find his shooting rhythm for the rest of the postseason.
“What I will say is I absolutely love being a Golden State Warrior,” he said. “The guys in the locker room, the coaching staff, the training staff, from day one, it’s felt like home. … My goal this summer is to just get better. You know, to be able to take a step next year for the Warriors and try to expand even more; to be in a system I’m familiar with and just grow from there and get better as a player and as a man.”
There’s more on the Warriors:
- A report after Friday’s loss indicated that Jonathan Kuminga‘s representatives might consider seeking a change of scenery for their client this summer, but the second-year forward said his exit interview with management went well, Holmes adds. “(The Warriors are) just happy with the way I have grown,” Kuminga said. “Pretty much they want me to keep adding on what I did this year, keep learning the game and just growing more, figuring out how I can impact even more on winning. And I think that’s been my goal, to just figure out how I can impact on winning.”
- President of basketball operations Bob Myers plans to take some time to decide on his future, sources tell Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. Owner Joe Lacob made several extension offers to Myers during the season that would have given him one of the highest salaries among league executives, along with an option to take some time off if he wanted to, Shelburne’s sources add. Myers’ current contract will expire June 30, and Shelburne hears that he’s not sure if he wants to stay in his job.
- Myers’ decision may affect the Warriors’ ability to reach extension agreements with Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, Shelburne adds. The organization’s financial status means both players will likely have to accept team-friendly contracts, and Myers is known for his ability to handle those type of delicate negotiations. Green said Myers’ future will definitely be a factor he considers as he weighs his own decision, according to Mark Medina of Sportsnaut.
Looks like Bob Myers will be back. With what Joe Lacob is offering it sounds like win-win. Very high salary, any time off necessary, and stay right where he loves it and not have to uproot his family.
It sounds more like Myers will walk. He can go back to being an agent. He can keep his family in the same place. You’ll get your wish. Draymond will be gone. Iggy is gone. Divencenzo will walk. Kuminga will walk. Now if they can get rid of that Poole contract that everyone was so excited about. I still don’t understand why people got so excited about him. 5 seconds turned into 100 million dollars of torture.
“Kuminga will walk” – how?
Draymond is staying, if anything Wiggins and Poole will be flipped for Lebron and (draft pick that turns into) Bronny.
I’m guessing by walk he means hell get a good offer GS won’t match when his rook ends, or he’ll request a trade which Kerr will happily green light to the FO. Kuminga is wasted under Kerr.
Draymond is a 50/50 depending on if they pay up, if not someone else will.
And lol, that’s a terrible idea. Wiggins is Warriors best player not named Steph and his 2-way game won them their chip last year. Ship Poole 100%, but avoid a soon to be 39yo Lebron and as for Bronny he isn’t even the more talented of his sons. He’ll be a role player at best, if it wasn’t for his name he’d be a 2nd rounder.
Why is everyone saying Kuminga will walk when he has a contract for next year? Can the warriors talk Curry into taking a pay cut to keep the other players? They still need a big man in the middle so who can they get to come over for cheap?
Literally just explained what may be the meaning. Either they mean he’ll request a trade which they’ll regret. Or he’ll get to RFA and they don’t match an offer he’s worth and he will walk in 25.
He’s a really good player, I dunno what he did to Kerr but he’s clearly out of favour. He’ll be out one way or another, and there will be a lot of teams interested.
@JW91 Kuminga’s Reps are on the verge of demanding a trade.
@8rings You should learn to read. Talk by player Reps about demanding a trade never end well.
@Gaints, I know that, I was trying to help with the “walk” statement. But it may just be posturing to try and force Kerrs hand to give him a bigger role.
After the clear disinterest from Kerr in the play offs his value can’t be that high, but interest will be. And to let a #7 pick, who’s still only 20 and has huge upside go for next to nothing is bad for GS
warriors are in a tough position they need to tell Klay he needs to take a big pay cut to stay. Green needs to know he will ONLY get a Wiggins type deal. Curry may need to take a pay cut to keep those 2 and redo his contract. Trading Poole for a younger less expensive player may be their best option. Trade this year’s pick for a future 1st rounder next year.
@8rings
I hope the GSW front office is smarter than that and stays away from the James family.
DiVincenzo was awful all season and him getting massive playing time over Kuminga is what killed the Warriors season. Kerr gotta go.
DiVincenzo was not AWFUL all season. Anyone who thinks so does not know basketball. If your infatuation with Kuminga and obsession with his minutes blinds you that much you might need to seek treatment.
My dream offseason: Myers leaves and takes Kerr with him. Steph/Dray/Klay all take paycuts to get a deeper roster. Iguodala becomes HC who also plays in the playoffs in small bursts.
GSW goes like 75-7, 16-1 next year with a playoffs roster of
G- Curry, Thompson, Kyrie, Pat Bev, GP2, Moody, Bronny
F- Green, Lebron, Iguodala, Kuminga, Baldwin
C- Looney Poeltl
Your “dream offseason”? That is more of a drug induced hallucination… LOL
Sounds more like a Friday the 13th dream. You must be Freddy.
I’ll have what your having there
@8rings
You play too many video games or fantasy sports. You do realize the difference between real life and fantasy correct?
Trade Poole! And possibly Moody? Iggy retires. Keep Wiggins, DiVincenzo, Kuminga, GP2, Draymond, Klay, etc. The latter two on more “team-friendly” contracts. Possibly bring in or back one or two of the following; Miles Bridges, H.Barnes, Crowder, L.Walker, Schröder, JaM Green. Or perhaps one of Drummond, Cousins, T.Bryant, or R.Lopez to back up or support Looney.
Stay the hell away from Kyrie, Poeltl, Beverly, and the James’s.
I love your mind. Whatever you’re on I want some!
It’s time to break up the Warriors. The pieces are getting further apart from each other and can not be pulled back together.
They were the Warriors we know at home this season and the one we don’t on the road.
We all saw it in the playoffs but did not want to accept it.
It is time for one and all to say their goodbyes and move on.
Poole, Kuminga and future picks for Towns. Resign Green, Moody,Lamb and….Iggy. Draft In 2nd Rd a young PF and C. Find cheap FA to sign. Easy fix
