A short-term contract might work for both the Cavaliers and one of their free agents, Caris LeVert, Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer opines. LeVert settled into the role of sixth man as the season went along and he wants to re-sign.
Cleveland won’t find a better player with its $12.2MM mid-level exception, according to Fedor, so it makes sense for the Cavs to bring back LeVert and then use the exception to add another rotation piece.
We have more from the Central Division:
- Donovan Mitchell recently expressed on social media his frustration at not being All-NBA First Team. In an “Sideline Stroll w/Ros” interview (video link), Mitchell spoke about the perceived snub in greater detail. “I just felt I should have been First Team,” he said. “So that’s one of my goals next year, is to be First Team. And I felt like I was good enough. But obviously the media members did not.” Mitchell did make the Second Team.
- The Pacers will host six draft prospects on Monday, including Indiana University star forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, according ot a team press release. Emmanuel Akot (Western Kentucky), Tyree Appleby (Wake Forest), Chris Livingston (Kentucky), Terquavion Smith (NC State) and Azuolas Tubelis (Arizona) will join him at the Pacers’ practice facility.
- The Bulls are looking to lock up Nikola Vucevic for the next three seasons, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. A report that an extension was being discussed with the center, who will otherwise be a free agent next month, surfaced on Wednesday. The Bulls are apparently not looking to take “big swings” this summer and Cowley disagrees with that strategy for a franchise wallowing in mediocrity.
Donavan Mitchell, what a low-rent statement. Stop crying and work harder.
Wow! You pretty much repeated what Mitchell said he’d do! How awesome can one person be? Way to go, you!
Agree with you, personally I wouldn’t have had him in any of the teams, just missing the cut for the 3rd… so he is way off thinking he must be in the first, right?
Reinsdorf is the worst owner is American professional sports history, Bulls are completely useless until this loser sells the team, Vuc has been a terrible mistake, nba should be disgusted
I feel disgusted all of the time.
I’ve read a lot of stupid statements on here but buddy you just won first prize for the dumbest thing ever put on this board. He’s not great but I could easily name you 25 who are/were way worse.
Agreed. Reinsdorf cleaned house and brought in Karnisovas, Eversley and Donovan. These guys are capable and highly respected. AK and Eversley acquired Derozan, Vucevic, Lonzo Ball, Caruso, etc. Lonzo Ball’s knee injury changes the whole picture and is very unfortunate. AK and Eversley had a good plan. Can’t control all injuries.
If your team was built around a single guy who, if hurt, would make the team look incredibly worse, you are a bad org. This org also extended a guy in LaVine, to a max deal, who has constant knee injuries as well. Now these guys get a second crack at this and now are doing what those in Reinsdorf owned orgs do, play CYA.
Disagree with you. Regarding LaVine, LaVine is a tremendous talent. Sooner or later the Bulls have to pay for talent. A lot of teams have paid a lot of money to players who get hurt, John Wall, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Joel Embiid. AK had a good plan. Can’t help Lonzo Ball’s situation. Just bad luck.
The fact that Donovan still thinks he got snubbed for All-NBA 1st Team after a 1st round playoff exit ….. lets you know exactly what his brain is focused on …. and it ain’t winning!
Just read Donovan Mitchell’s stats. 28.3 points a game. And I remember him dominating games. He scored 71 points in one game. I think he was fine on the 2nd team as he’s only 6’1″ so probably not much on defense.
To succeed in the NBA you have to have a large ego. Remember that quote about how there is an “I” in “WIN? If Mitchell didn’t believe in himself it would be cause for concern.
True, but I’m tired of players using words to promote their case for awards (ahem, Embiid) and not just proving it on the court. I would also like DM to explain which of the two guys he believes he should have replaced? Shai was better in every statistical category, and made more of an impact on winning to his team than Mitchell did (16 game improvement for the Thunder over 21-22, 7 game improvement for the Cavs). I may be willing to hear an argument for him against Luka, but it’s not surprising that Doncic got more votes either.
I agree with the frustrated Bulls fans. Vuc is good, but like the rest of the roster, not good enough to be a playoff team. The issue is that letting him walk doesn’t help much as the Bulls will still be at or over the cap without signing him to a new deal. Sign and Trade, or tearing it all down and stinking for a couple of years need to be their direction.
Embid the back to back scoring champion, mvp. The guy who plays with fractured faces, ripped off thumbs and torn acls? That embid. Go away.
I never like hearing a player set a goal of winning an individual post-season award, much less appear to be lobbying for it. Unfortunately, its on the rise. Doesn’t help that Embid was gifted the MVP award based on shameless lobbying by him and his head coach, and, I imgaine, the implicit threat of him throwing another tantrum if he doesn’t win.
Still, DM should have more class than that. It’s not hard. If you must lobby, then at least tie it to personal improvement (defense, facilitating, etc.) in connection with something team related (e.g., winning, going further in the playoffs, etc.). Not just a desire to have the voters vote differently.
Really wish mitch wouldn’t b***h when he got shut down by a mediocre Knicks squad. You don’t see Jimmy asking to be 1st team. Hell, dame dropped 70 too. He’s gotta get over himself and commit to expanding his game. Had more confidence in last year’s team with Olympic Rubio. Still think we should’ve gone for Ingram, or someone capable of defending the wing. Love garland but his and dms defense is subpar. Constantly counting on Mobley or Allen to clean up the mess AND get the rebound. Go cavs!
Kinda funny as Vucavic always seems to play like he does not want to be in Chicago.. Not sure why there are even talks about extending him.. must not be a lot of interest around the league since he looked like a lazy bitter player when in Chicago.
Have never read that Vucevic is lazy or bitter. Vucevic is an excellent player but obviously not the equal of Jokic, Embiid or Greek Freak. The Bulls have to send someone out on the court. So Kucevic might be their best option.
