The Hawks didn’t end up making any major moves on draft day, but they continue to explore potential trade options around the league, writes Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
According to Fischer, in addition to having talked to Indiana about a possible deal involving forward De’Andre Hunter, the Hawks also had “significant” discussions with the Pistons about a trade that would have sent the 25-year-old to Detroit.
Hunter isn’t the only Hawks forward whose name is popping up in trade talks this week. Fischer says Atlanta has also been active on the John Collins front, re-engaging the Jazz in conversations about the big man who has been consistently mentioned in trade rumors for multiple years. However, it doesn’t sound like the two sides gained serious traction in those negotiations.
Here’s more from Fischer’s post-draft report for Yahoo Sports:
- Before agreeing to trade Jordan Poole to Washington, the Warriors also talked to the Celtics and Spurs about him, writes Fischer. Boston moved forward with its Kristaps Porzingis deal instead, while San Antonio “never made a significant offer” for Poole, according to Fischer, who adds that Golden State also had “serious” talks with the Pacers about a deal involving the No. 7 overall pick and Jonathan Kuminga.
- Given that the Wizards were making it in a point in most of their trade discussions not to take back any long-term money, some opposing executives have wondered if they intend to flip Poole to another team, says Fischer. However, sources tell Yahoo Sports that the Warriors are under the impression that Washington plans to keep the high-scoring guard.
- Golden State’s trade of Poole has increased speculation among rival executives that the Heat may take a similar path and look to deal Tyler Herro sooner rather than later, per Fischer. Herro didn’t play a role in Miami’s run to the NBA Finals this spring due to a hand injury, and his four-year $120MM+ contract is very similar to Poole’s.
- People around the NBA think there may be some “atypical” trade activity before the start of free agency, according to Fischer. The new CBA will take effect in July, so teams may want to take advantage of certain old rules – like the ability of tax-apron teams to take back up to 125% of the salaries they send out in trades – before they expire.
Lol
Hawks Have the worst timing ⏱
If your going to move collins then step Philly farting around.
Wizards ♀️ didn’t mess around and neither did the jazz last year. With the draft settled…teams are reformulating their strategies for their rosters.
The jazz were eager to do a deal to move up but teams got stingy.
Mavs pulled out on collins and found a way to get their guy and another pick plus move bertans.
The jazz knew they could meet their needs in the draft and or free agency.
Not sure their is anything hawks have but maybe Murray.
Ask for sexton and send jazz collins and Murray. No way you’ll get any picks. Jazz may demand a pick knowing Ainge.
You’re nuts if you think Collins and Murray for Sexton with no picks going back to Atlanta is a good trade. Atlanta traded 4 first round picks for Murray. Sexton Cleveland didn’t want him so they sent him to Utah for salary matching purposes in the Mitchell trade. ATL would get minimum 3 first round picks for Murray with attaching John Collins. Nobody wants John Collins. He has little to no trade value. Atlanta wants first round picks for him but his value is 2 seconds at best just like Andre Drummond got being traded from Detroit to Cleveland.
Oops, can’t get the four picks back now. Murray is going to want to be near max if not more like a super max. Hawks won’t be able to pay him with the way this roster and contracts are currently.
Have no issue with hawks wanting Murray. I don’t think jazz want him even though I ran illustrations showing it possible.
The jazz have Laurie and kessler as their core. The hawks almost slipped collins in the suns deal but that fell apart. Why?
Hawks keep trying to get something out of a negative. Teams aren’t interested. Hawks will just have to pay him and the tax and won’t have the flexibility to grow.
The mavs had interest like the jazz but have moved on. The kings might do it .that would be a nice fit actually.
The hawks took bufkin imo just to entice the jazz. Oops the jazz aren’t hooked on him and plugged in George. Dang! Hate it when their are other options.
The hawks will run it back this season.
They traded 3 first round picks. They likely had all sorts of protections on them.
I am not sure this is so nuts. The Collins contract is likely the 2nd worst in the NBA. Murray would be perfect for the Jazz. Would pair really well with Dunn and eventually George. hawks are facing a terrible cap situation and need to buy their way out of the Collins contract. They need to come to grips with his negative value OR prepare to pay the tax as a mid level team.
If this were to go down I would see something more like this
Jazz send Sexton, Gay, olyneck Cleveland firsts in 25 and/ or 27 to Hawks for Murray and Collins
Would have made more sense pre draft IMO. The Hendricks situation makes Collins more difficult.
I cannot understand this post
I dig the use of the symbols tbh
Just love laughing at pundit comments on Herro and Poole contracts. No one put a gun to the heads of their respective teams to offer those contracts…yet they did. And no one can guarantee eventual performance (or lack thereof) on the court.
That’s a really insane thing to find humor in. You are laughing that other men got $100M to play a game, and fans of those teams were hyped? Why is that funny? Loser mentality.
Lack of performance? Poole has a ring. You dont.
Go outside and talk to real people next time.
Loser mentality coming from the guy who had to call the Warriors defending champs on every story until the Nuggets won and a temper tantrum about Steve Kerr being a moron is hilarious. Well done
Poole has a ring because of Curry and Draymond. His contract was purely for future matching purposes. They never intended to pay it.
It was b/c Simons got overpaid so much. Meant both Poole and Herro got overpaid by like $40 million instead of closer to 20ish
I’d been wanting to trade Herro pretty much since he was drafted, mostly b/c you can find guards like them
Felt like Atlanta was 1 of several teams that really got significantly better in the draft. Perfect type of pieces falling to them back to back years, in my opinion, for exactly what they need
I’m not in love with the Bufkin pick but I do love the Mohamed Gueye pick. Id also love it if we could land Siakam this summer, even if we have to give up Dre Hunter. But Gueye seems pretty similar to young Siakam & we just got him for a future 2nd pick. So maybe hanging back & not being aggressive is the best move.
I still think have to catch up with my draft preparation, so I dont know these guys the way I will, and probably cant say as much about them specifically, but I agree with Bufkin in terms of fit, just b/c of what they already have, but if you consider those guys either being moved, or just the opportunity to have him as depth, I think it worked, and when they were on the clock, i said they’re going to take him
I liked the Seth Lundy pick. Again, i have to do a lot more, but the little i saw, he reminds me kind of like a combination of Caleb Martin and Max Strus, and I think he fits them perfectly, theoretically, kind of in the spot I was talking about with you previously a couple of days ago
If I’m Toronto, I really dont want to move Barnes, OG, or Siakam. I just think they have a sleeping juggernaut there, if finally used correctly. Like, I didnt want to move those first 2 guys for Kevin Durant. Siaksm i could see moving, in a scenario like you presented, where they get back a versatile wing/4 that can also really defend, and shoot, but there are variables to where they would get that and who makes sense
Gave up on Collins …..
I remember when he had value. And someone was telling you he should be moved. Can’t give him away now.
It’s too bad Poole couldnt forget about the Punch and work with Draymond. Yes, it was a trrrible thing to happen, but Draymond and the vets helped him succeed and get $123m contract. It’s too bad he couldnt have more gratitude and contimue to learn from Steph. He’s only 23 and it was once in a lifetime opprtunity to work with hall of famers. It would have been one thing if he didnt get paid. He was getting some aweful advice. The Punch really turned into lose lose situation for W’s and Poole. He may never ever get another big contract if he doesnt change his attitude. You just dont give up on your coach and the team in the postseason. I do commend Draymond for working hard to make a mend.
WTF are you talking about ? Draymond never apologized and the team didn’t do anything to support Poole.
They gave him $123m contract. Warriors didnt have to give him one because be would have become a restricted FA. 2 yrs ago, he would have been more than happy to get $40m, $60m, $80m. Warriors believed in him, supported him, and rewarded him. They also wanted to make sure he would not become a distraction. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the extension had the opposite effect.
Poole is incredibly arrogant and would never have accepted the lesser contracts you suggest. He was a locker room cancer and they shipped him out.
News coming out of Atlanta suggested that ownership has demanded the FO get under the luxury tax, citing JC and Capella as the most likely to be moved.
I NEED the Kings to go after JC while the Hawks are desperate. TE from Holmes deal, Dozier, remove protection from pick next year, and 26 1st for Collins works. Add a slew of 2nd rounders if need be. Gives Sac:
Fox/Huerter/Keegs/JC/Domas
Davion/Monk/TD/Vezenkov/Lyles
Jones/?/Slawson/Metu/Len
Easily a top 5 depth team
Jordan Poole unfollowed Draymond on Instagram, but is still following everyone else on GSW, and Draymond is following him.
I dont get why this matters to people. Draymond Green is exponentially more valuable, and important than Poole. You can find guys like Poole. There are only a couple of guys in the league with similarities to Draymond. This is why I get so annoyed at Heat fans that talk about Bam. Name 8 guys that do what those guys do in this league right now, that are actually used the way they’re supposed to be. Most of the names are also significantly important players, for a reason
Before anyone else jumps on that…Bam, Draymond, Jaren Jackson jr, Scottie Barnes, Siakam, Aaron Gordon…Ben Simmons
There are a few others with similar skillset not on this list b/c they arent at that stature, arent used right, or are still too young, but the point is made
It wasn’t a diss, just interesting. I love Draymond. I was happy with Poole but I like his money is gone. He’s a fine player and will go off for the Wizards, essentially becoming the new Beal over there.
Didnt mean to insinuate you were doing so. It was mostly just a comment on why that is still talked about so much in general
Poole is a system guy ……. He’s getting exposed soon. Wizards are a G-league organization. Amateurs ….
Pretty funny coming from a Knicks fan. Tell me, what have the Knicks accomplished that the wiz haven’t? Don’t worry, I’ll wait…
Look it up …….. NY invented ball.
You clowns think it’s all about the Knicks. Real Knick fans are basketball fans.
Look up the history. Stop showing your stupidity ….. There’s a reason why MSG do t need no F$&?ing sponsor money. You basketball midgets. And I apologize to all little people. Not the little minds.
An original Franchise … means both your teams suck our arm pits
Fischer latest….nonsense

Hawks want to get rid of Collins mainly due to the long term money owed to him. It also appears they aren’t phased with DeAndre Hunter. Again they just signed him long term and they also have a bunch of good young wings such as Griffin, Bey and Johnson.
What about …
John Collins and DeAndre Hunter for Tobias Harris and a conditional future first round pick
Tobias is a good team mate and locker room guy. He’s a decent 3rd or 4th option. But the main reason is he’s on a huge expediting deal. Clears them of unwanted money and frees up some spending in the next offseason.
Sixers go for depth and decide to use their assets now instead of letting guys run down their deals and potentially lose them for nothing.
Sixers then have 3 versatile forwards for their rotation with Hunter Tucker and Collins.
Not sure what will happen with the Harden situation. In a perfect world we just straight swap via sign and trade Harden for Kyrie.
Kyrie Maxey Hunter Tucker Embiid
Melton … … Collins …
Why would the Sixers take on 45m per year for the next 3-4 years to take these two guys? Harris can get them more than these two overpaid bums. Contracts matter too much for this to be realistic, IMO
As a Sixers fan I’d love this return for Tobias on an expiring deal.
Hunter is a solid defender can play either forward spot, can shoot the 3 ball and give you about 15 points per night. Collins had a down season but again he can give you about 15, can shoot the 3, can play small ball 5 at times.
Think we need to add some quality depth and doing a 2 for 1 deal like this does exactly that. Tobias was being used at the 4th option which isn’t ideal. He’s more of a scorer happy guy, average defensively, no very versatile, good locker room guy but ultimately not an ideal for that role. Whereas Hunter and Collins both suit that 4th role, both offer more versatility and provide more depth.
I’m not sure why the comparison of Herro to Poole. Herro’s situation in Miami reflects nothing close to Poole’s situation in Golden State. Herro doesn’t have issues with his teammates; Riley and Spo would never tolerate Poole or Draymond’s behavior – and Udonis Haslem would guarantee that; And Herro, while having occasional growing pains and young player mistakes, he has mostly progressed as a player so far in his career.
Well stated. Poole seems to have warn out his welcome. Herro doesn’t fit that mold
If you want guys that shoot the 3 at 29% and 35%, I guess you can say they shoot the three.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
If I was the Sixers I would dump the Harris contract for 3-4 vets on shorter term contracts
or hold out and see if the bulls or Blazers blow it up so I could run at a difference maker
45m per for 3-4 years is a huge investment for depth from 2 guys, that being said I think this would probably be a minor upgrade for them
Dallas should try to get Hunter
