JULY 6: Vincent is officially a Laker, having formally signed his new contract, according to the team (Twitter link).
JUNE 30: Free agent point guard Gabe Vincent will leave the Heat for the Lakers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link), who reports that Vincent has agreed to a three-year, $33MM contract with Los Angeles.
Miami, wary of increasing the team’s projected tax bill, had offered Vincent a three-year deal that started at $7.7MM, tweets Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. The Lakers will give him an $11MM annual salary, presumably using a significant portion of their non-taxpayer mid-level exception.
The deal will be fully guaranteed with no player or team option on the third year, tweets Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Vincent, 27, began the 2022/23 season as rotation player off the Heat’s bench, but was elevated to the starting lineup in early February due to a Kyle Lowry injury. On the year, he averaged 9.4 PPG, 2.5 APG, and 2.1 RPG with a .402/.334/.872 shooting line in 68 regular season games (25.9 MPG).
Vincent held onto his starting job during the Heat’s run to the NBA Finals and played well in the postseason. Notably, he averaged 13.8 PPG and shot .438/.426/.909 in the Heat’s final two series vs. the Celtics and Nuggets, despite spraining his ankle vs. Boston.
Even after agreeing to sign Vincent, Los Angeles still has interest in bringing back point guard D’Angelo Russell, tweets Jovan Buha of The Athletic. However, Buha expects Vincent’s deal means that Dennis Schröder won’t be back with the team.
Vincent was the No. 23 free agent on our top-50 list.
Somehow, I always knew it would be him with the Lakers, even during the year. Just a great fit with Lebron and Davis. Super happy for Nnamdi to get paid like that, and be in a situation I think should be good for him, if used right
Take care of him for us
Heat losing their bench
Lakers have so much money
Nobody wants Reaves and Rui?
Nobody wants to get their money tied up on a RFA whom the Lakers are very likely to match for.
Nice move ……. BronGM
This is the lakers big move? A career .399% FG & 33.9% 3PT? Lolololololololololol
Easy to tell that you didn’t watch any of the heat in the playoffs or regular season for that matter last year
Easy to tell all you watched was him getting hot during the playoffs. Hes been a mediocre for 4 years as a shooter but got hot at the right time. Good for him, but that doesn’t make him a good shooter. The NBA(and other leagues for that matter) are littered with guys who got hot during the playoffs, scored a big deal, and were never heard of again.
Prince could be a good signing. Very little chance of this one being a good one. He has to be what he was during the playoffs to justify it. Otherwise he’s an 8th man making $11mill per.
@online I’m a nuggets fan how would I not have watched the heat? Lmao
@spender21 You don’t know ball.
@tigerboy enjoy your overpaid 34% 3pt shooter
Good on Gabe for getting his bag, he deserves this.
Though there’s this likely scenario where this won’t work as well with the LAKERS ……… similar to what happened to Nunn, his last year with the LAKERS.
Gabe needs to be utilized properly, like what Spo and staff did …… Ham seems to be clueless at times, with his rotations.
They add a 3 and D wing, and you have him play off Lebron and Davis. Hopefully they have more shooting around them, assuming they keep Reeves, and if they can add that other wing I mentioned.
Ham should know, realize and use him as a non-scorer who can score, if this makes sense …… Gabe’s never been a big-time scorer – yes, he’s best utilized playing off those two.
Gabe is smart enough to read situations and shoot or pass as needed.
That one season, Vogel tried using K. Nunn as a scoring PG, big mistake …… fans should hope that Ham don’t make the same mistake with Gabe.
N.B. People probably already forgot about K. Nunn, was a serious ROY candidate with the HEAT …… one more developmental win for the HEAT.
Lakers running it back adding Gabe Vincent and Taurean Prince????
Gabe Vincent and Taurean Prince is two really good pickups. Both play good defense and both good three point shooters.
Taurean Prince just got cut by Minnesota.
Vincent is an average 3 PT shooter who happened to get really hot in the playoffs.
Not a bad couple of pickups. There is no way Prince can hurt them but this contract could hurt them
Good moves by the LAL. It looks like they chose Vincent over Schoeder (who has proven in two stints that he can play effectively with LBJ). Vincent is a younger, though. Getting Prince on that 1 year deal was a no-brainer.
Vince t gonna regret it by the end of the year
He was money in playoffs. That’s what they need. I let Russ walk.
Gabe, Schroeder, Reaves can hold down PG.
This is a solid add. But if I’m the Lakers I’d rather have Schroeder than D Russell.
