Tyler Herro could return to action as soon as Game 2 of the Finals on Sunday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports (video link).
The Heat guard has been sidelined since Game 1 of the first-round series against Milwaukee, when he broke his hand. He underwent surgery on April 21 and was expected to miss a minimum of six weeks.
Game 2 “looms as a possibility,” according to Wojnarowski, who added, “Can that hand take contact? When players come back from an injury like that, you’re going to have to be able to absorb contact.”
Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and TNT reported after Miami eliminated Boston in the conference finals that Herro could be back by Game 3, which will take place on Wednesday. Herro didn’t provide a timetable earlier this week but said, “I’m going to be working out every day, twice, two, three times a day from here until the day I hopefully come back.”
Wojnarowski said if Herro doesn’t play in Game 2 that “barring a setback, there’s confidence Tyler Herro will be ready to return (in Game 3).”
Herro was the team’s third-leading scorer during the regular season at 20.1 points per game. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 34.9 minutes per game. He’s a career 38.3% 3-point shooter and 87.5% free throw shooter.
Herro signed a four-year, $120MM extension prior to this season that will kick in next season.
Heat in 6
As fun as that would be, I don’t see them getting past Denver at all. Nuggets have the size, shooting, defense, and get out in transition a ton. Nuggets in 5.
I’m optimistic, but I think it’s a make or miss series. Heat also have historically almost never won in Denver. I can maybe remember like 3 wins in Denver in like 20 years. I think the last one I saved on my tivo for like 5 years b/c it was an unbelievable multi OT game (that may have been at home. They played 2 crazy games against each other around that time)
Anyway, I’m nervous about Gordon, Porter, Jeff Green, and KCP. 3 of those guys have been issues for the Heat in the past, and still have a strong matchup against them right now
Herro is an easy target on D and is out of rythm …
I agree with most of what you’re saying except the defense. Their defense isn’t as good as it it should be considering their length. Denver is in a better position, but if Butler and Herro can get hit from those 20ft jumpers, they could surprise some people
They will need Herro
I just can’t see Heat Handling Jokic ……
He’s the difference in this series. But I want to see who guards Jimmy ??
Will it be Brown ?? I guess everyone
Aaron Gordon historically is a problem for the Heat on both ends, but especially Jimmy. He has been his toughest defender by a wide margin in his career. Jimmy struggles a lot against him
Nuggets in 5 …….
Man, I would’ve thought you would’ve figured that it’s better to not keep making predictions against the Heat.
Maybe you’ll finally be right this time, but if you’re once again wrong…wow!
Herro had a big game against them in Denver late in December, but both rotations were pretty different. I would say be cautious about his return, and maybe see him more with light minutes at the end of the rotation than a primary option off the bench
Clearly the Nuggets are more talented, but we see the Heat giving everything they have.
The Nuggets need to put the Heat on the ropes early in this series with taking both games in Denver, then grabbing one in Miami.
Bam has to to play @ a HOF level to contain Jokic who is 10+ assists a game …
Strus & Martin 1-17 can’t continue
