Jordan Clarkson is discussing a three-year extension with the Jazz, sources tell Marc Stein (Twitter link). The new deal could pay him close to $18MM per year, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
On Thursday, Clarkson chose to bypass free agency by picking up his $14.26MM player option for next season. That made him immediately eligible for an extension, which will be worth more once the new CBA takes effect on Saturday and allows veterans to receive 140% of their current salary in the first year of an extension rather than the current 120%.
Utah could also use some of its projected cap room to give Clarkson a higher base salary in the first year of the deal.
The 31-year-old guard set career highs in several categories this season, averaging 20.8 points, 4.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 61 games. He has been with the Jazz since being acquired from Cleveland in 2019.
But who’s gonna be their pg? They dropped out of playoffs as soon as Conley was gone. They’re gonna need to replace him. Maybe Kyle Lowry can be an option for a couple yrs while KGeorge learns how to be a NBA pg
Probably Dunn or Sexton. Dunn looked really good in his limited games there, while Sexton is probably more than a sixth man for them. It’s just a question of whether he can actually play the point or if he’s an undersized 2-guard.
Kris Dunn is borderline NBA player, u def don’t want him as your starting pg. Collin is much better at scoring & being aggressive looking for his own shot than being a starting pg. THT is more of a pg than Collin but again I don’t think u want him as your starter going into the season
In a dream world?
Jazz trade for Dame or go after Irving.
In a reasonable world?
Jazz pick up someone w/experience like Lowry.
In the more likely world?
Jazz try to use rookies or someone w/little winning experience and are unlikely to win (like they did after Conley was traded – the team was NOT good after that trade – big mistake!)
Jordan Clarkson deserves it and I like fact he been extremely solid over there and with the Utah Jazz organization.
I personally think the Jazz will trade for another player or two. They have lots of assets and tradable contracts. I don’t think we’ll know their full lineup until the Fall.
Right now, Dunn or THT would be the most logical starting PG. Both showed big improvements at running the point. Dunn is the better defender, but THT isn’t bad either.
I wouldn’t mind Clarkson staying, but I could also see the Jazz trading him for a young prospect. I do know the Jazz need to consolidate players into future quality.
The goal is to have guys around the same age and younger, so they can grow together. The Jazz have said they want players who can all dribble, pass, and shoot.
