JULY 7: Ingles has officially signed with the Magic, the team announced today in a press release (Twitter link).
JUNE 30: Free agent swingman Joe Ingles is joining the Magic on a two-year, $22MM contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets.
TNT and Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes reported earlier (Twitter link) that the two sides were close to an agreement. Similar to the deals Orlando reached with Gary Harris and Mohamed Bamba last offseason, the Magic will hold an option on the second year of Ingles’ contract, Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today tweets. Harris had his 2023/24 salary guaranteed by the Magic earlier in the day.
He’ll add a veteran presence off the bench at the wing positions in Orlando.
Ingles spent last season with the Bucks, seeing action in 46 games off the bench. He averaged 6.9 points, 3.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 22.7 minutes. He also saw action in five postseason games.
Ingles tore the ACL in his left knee the previous season while playing for the Jazz. Ingles, 35, played regularly for eight seasons in Utah.
Has turned into journeyman Joe
He’s just about cooked I think. These could be his last two good rotation years
I really like this fit for them. They’ve desperately needed 3 and D wing help for years with their plethora of options at the 4. They have a lot of length, and they’re very versatile and skilled with their size. They’ve had a lot of issues staying healthy, so hopefully they can do that this year
I’ve always been a fan of Ingles. Just a smart player. Has amazing hands reaching in.
he looked very slow in the playoffs good guy he can shoot the 3 but not worth 11 million a year
This is a great deal for Joe Ingles!!! 2 years $22 million bring good veteran leadership to the team.
Now I want the same energy on this contract that everyone used towards Bruce Brown, Kyrie Irving and Jerami Grant because this is by far the worse signing of this year’s free agency!!
Not the worst at all, Ingles provides great veteran leadership the youngins can learn from. He can shoot the 3 and is good passer as well.
He’s 35, slow, never been a good defender, average spot up shooter, decent passer, missed half his last season, one year removed from an ACL TEAR and he deserves 11 Million a year?? Cut it out. This should’ve been a Vet minimum at best. This was an prime example of an overpay. Veteran presence get paid alot less than 11 Mil a year.
It’s easy why it’s not even a bad signing. Non playoff teams always overpay for vets to get them to that next step. Locker room leadership is the reason many young players grow or fail. Also, he shot over 40% from three last year. That’s better then average.
Shooting .408 for his career including .409 last year from deep means he’s a well above average spot up shooter, near elite in fact. In Utah Snyder used him to run the point of attack in the pick and roll because of his great court vision and passing ability.
Obviously he’s not what he use to be defensively, an ACL tear will do that to you especially when he didn’t have the best lateral quickness to begin with.
I completely disagree with your take that as most people would that he’s never been a good defender though. He’s very good at reading footwork to stay in front of ball handlers out of the pick and roll. He is also very adept at using his height to deter stop and pops. He also knows when to help and when to stay on his man.
$11 million isn’t bad when it’s only two seasons and when your a team like Orlando that needs a locker room guy and has to spend money somewhere.
Ingles has very high basketball I.Q. and will make a great coach someday if that’s the path he chooses to pursue.
Plus it’s essentially a 1 year contract…. So that makes it even better.
Not a bad contract at all, it is only two year and team option the last year. ORLANDO have 8 players in the rookie scale contract, Franz and Paolo will get maximum extensions for sure and you don’t know yet how good will AB and JH so this signing was a good move thinking in the future, two years 22 millions for a veteran player isn’t a bad deal at all.
I hope he teach Franz some of he old man tricks, he knows very well to move without the ball, when he plays he is always in the right place at the right moment and that is not a coincidence is that he knows how to read other teams defense perhaps he is not the same than 5 years ago but I hope he can teach these young Magic players some of his magical tricks.
Mr. GM Mroldfashion with 8 players in the rookie contract and with Franz/Paolo duo getting maximum $$ extension for sure this was a very clever move from the FO because they are thinking in the future and not wasting money in bad contracts.
Blows my mind how many of you defend paying a below average “veteran” with an ACL TEAR on his resume 11 Mil a year to essentially just be a locker room and practice presence. He’s not worth 11 Millions dollars, just be honest with yourselves and stop trying to disagree with me for the sake of disagreeing..He’s just not that good… I’m not mad at Ingles, get your money. It’s the rest of you hypocrites who criticize Bruce Brown for getting 22 Mil after winning a championship.. Are the Pacers not paying for “Locker room presence”, championship player w/ “High IQ”, Swiss knife who can do a little bit of everything on the floor.. I mean Gabe Vincent received 11 Mil a year. Is Joe Ingles better than or equal to GABE Vincent!!??
Just let it go… You’re right, I fully agree. Nowadays people are just in need to be told what to think and they defend it like crazy.
Even 5 million would’ve been an overpay, that’s it.
Sometimes people forget that the Players and their agents are who decide where they wants to go and not the teams, the teams can only put the offer and the players decide. Maybe Gabe Vincent wants to play more for LA than for Orlando even when the money is better in Orlando (no state taxes).
11 Million a year for this guy crazy.
seems there’s a lot of extreme hate & pretty silly rationale for it in this thread. i kind of liked the move especially considering his fit with my team. in a vacuum… not bad at all. THEN i saw Divincenzo’s deal with the knicks… 4 yrs 50 mil & now i’m pretty mad. because i’ve always loved that guy & that contract is a STEAL for NY. wish my favorite team had made that signing.
