Knicks forward Julius Randle underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle on Friday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, who reports that the procedure was successful.
Randle will resume basketball activities later in the offseason and is expected to be ready to go for training camp and the beginning of the regular season this fall, sources tell Wojnarowski.
A left ankle sprain cost Randle the final two weeks of the regular season. He returned for the start of the playoffs, but sprained the ankle again in Game 5 of the Knicks’ first-round series vs. Cleveland.
Although he was able to play through the injury, suiting up for all but one game in New York’s second-round series against the Heat, Randle became aware during the postseason that he’d probably require surgery on the ankle, writes Wojnarowski.
Randle, 28, earned his second All-Star nod in 2022/23, averaging a career-best 25.1 points per game to go along with 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 77 appearances (35.5 MPG). His production declined significantly in the playoffs, where he averaged just 16.6 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 3.6 APG on .374/.258/.709 shooting, though it’s safe to assume that drop-off can be attributed at least in part to his ankle problems.
Randle has been mentioned as a possible offseason trade candidate, but will continue to be a major part of the Knicks’ game plan in 2023/24 if he remains on the roster. He’s under contract for at least two more years, with a player option for ’25/26. He’ll earn approximately $28.2MM next season and $30.3MM in ’24/25.
His value will never be higher. Trade him now. ……….
Brunson value is high right now. Should they trade him too smh. All you need is a elite SF. Trade Fournier, Toppin and some picks for a SF. Or maybe trade for Beal and move Barret to SF
Your the same delusional Knick fan who wants to trade half the team for DeMar DeRozan and then u have the audacity to act like you were a professional NBA player who always acts like your fan boy opinion is the only one with merit. News flash Al like we all have butt holes we all have opions. And if you are going trade Randal we better he getting someone who is putting up numbers close to him because your boy Obi Topping ain’t built like him when it comes to Randles all around stats. Some off your trade packages are about as delusional and funny as a four dollar bill. If we are trading Randal we better be getting a legit bonefide scorer and rebounder not a draft pick because your so called rebuild is over we came two games away from the Eastern Conference finals so stop talking about rebuild buddy we trying to build a championship contenter Big Bad Al who is nothing but a hatet when it comes to other people’s opinions and you act like a spoiled insecure brat like your one of Jimmy Guitar Dolans Grand Kids
I agree. Move him, we are close with the right player we are very close. I know Hart will resign but don’t break the bank for him
You guys are so dumb, Randle and Brunson are the only reasons youre in the playoffs
How many Knick gms have you watched ??
Do you even know what NBA stands for.
Clearly more than you. Who’s replacing Randle’s 25/10/5? You getting another all-NBA forward to take his place.
I doubt you’ve lived long enough to watch the gms I’ve watched. And you think that’s what they need is to replace those numbers. So clearly you don’t know this team. If I have to explain to you Randles worth. Then we don’t need to elaborate.
You wanted to trade 5 players for DeRozan. I doubt you watched them during their titles.
Brunson had a couple bad games. Maybe we should trade him too. Lmao come on people
If I was Minny Id dangle KAT for Randle and Fourn in a quick manner.
More of a macro move than micro for Minny
Now I wouldn’t take that if I was NYK but Minny should put it on the table with a little pressure to act
I wouldn’t want KAT. He’s not a D player. Doubt he’d get along with Thibs. Randle is not for everyone. Reason why he’s been let go by every team. He’s been at his best with NY. Finally grew up. He’s mentally weak. Not made for NY. Imo he would be at his best at home in Dallas.
Kat is a D player. Solid D at Kentucky and played fairly well when he was coached by Thibs. Personally I believe he needs proper motivation and in the NBA kids get paid because of their offense. Plus the kid is from Jersey, so playing close to home at the Mecca may light a fire. And if it allows the Knicks to move Randle and Fournier, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
Why would Minny want Randle. And why would they move KAT. Minny would move Rudy before moving KAT.
KAT doesn’t like contact. His rebounding has gotten worse. Cause he stays away from the paint. He’s not a rim protector. That’s why they got Rudy. So he can score more. He’s not worth what they would ask for him. I’d rather have Ayton, Wiseman, Duren. I’m not about giving away the whole team for a player. There are better deals out there with better results. Like Ayton or DeRozan even Myles Turner. Just not a KAT fan.
But you were trading 4 players for DeRozan
His rebounding declined because Gobert came into play, which was to be expected. As for moving Towns, they’ll get more for him, his contract is larger, and he doesn’t want to really be in Minny as opposed to Gobert.
As for Randle, he’d be a better compliment to Gobert, however more would need to be moved along with Randle and Fournier. I’m sure Minny wouldn’t mind replenishing some of those draft picks they tossed away and focus on building around Edwards.
@Al – Money is the reason Minny would entertain
It’s also the reason I think NYW would decline
Yeah I agree with you here
KAT can’t anchor a defense for a contender. If he could, Gobert wouldn’t be there. So, if NYK were to trade for KAT it would have to be on the assumption that he could be paired with a defensive C (or at least another big who can defend paint and rim) in base lineups.
Problem is that MIN is in the process of trying to figure out much the same thing, and I think they will give their version of it (KAT and Gobert) every chance to succeed. If only because they (prematurely) bet the ranch of its success. Not just in what they gave up in the Gobert trade, but in agreeing to pay the two guys over 90 mm per year for the next 4 years. It wasn’t so they could alternate minutes. If it works, then I doubt KAT will be made available. If it doesn’t work, I think KAT will be made available (he’ll like request a trade). Still, NYK would need a reason to believe it would be different here.
I just don’t see how they can hold Rudy Kat and Edwards going forward on the ledger even if it turns a small corner in a quick manner
Lore may be employing the Joe Tsai (buy low and rebrand) model. Based on that, I think he probably will finance a payroll with the 3 of them until he believes the team in this configuration has hit its ceiling. Edwards’ money won’t kick in until next season 2024-25, so staying the course this season shouldn’t be too painful. After this season, the verdict will pretty much be in.
The Tsai model didn’t work for Tsai, and Lore isn’t off to a great start (record $$ for Connelly), but he’s kind of pregnant at this point.
