The Stockton Kings, Sacramento’s G League affiliate, made history on Tuesday by naming Lindsey Harding as their head coach and Anjali Ranadivé as general manager, according to a team press release.
It’s the first time that two women will hold the top positions for a G League franchise.
Harding replaces Bobby Jackson, who left the Kings organization to join Nick Nurse’s staff with the 76ers. Ranadivé, the daughter of owner Vivek Ranadivé, replaces Paul Johnson, who will take a front office role with the NBA team after winning the 2023 G League Basketball Executive of the Year award.
Harding spent the past four seasons as an assistant/player development coach with the NBA Kings. She previously worked as a player development coach and pro personnel scout with the 76ers. Harding is also currently the head coach of the Mexican women’s national team.
Anjali Ranadivé served as assistant GM in Stockton last season. She previously worked for the Kings organization as a coordinator in the Social Responsibility department.
So this is what that movie Anna and the King was really about…
Y’all are weird. Women exist. They are half the global population. Why are y’all so quick to dismiss them out of hand?
Fragile egos
Read the second paragraph
I did. What’s your point?
Nepotism?
The second paragraph says “it’s the first time that two women will hold the top positions for a G League franchise.”
You have a problem with that nyelator?
I remain skeptical of an owner’s kid the same way I’m skeptical of Lacob’s son in the front office. Kings are turning things around, but Vivek does have a long track record of questionable moves.
Well nepotism is one thing, but if you saw the comments here before, there were a lot of people bent out of shape about the “women” part of this.
Hating on someone getting a job because they are a woman is as dumb as saying they are a bad hire because their hair is brown. Anyone doing that is dumb I agree.
Owners who don’t know the game or the biz are often criticized and Vivek has taken his fair share of well deserved criticism for his mishaps since buying the team. He has been learning to be an NBA owner the hard way. He could simply create a position for Anjali in Sacramento but instead she is working her way up while learning the business and has been since college. This will give her the experience to be a more effective front office team member and perhaps future owner and avoid many of the pit falls her father had by being a corporate software monster while never having experience in the NBA. People hating on this are biased, and most likely sexist, as family in the ownership and upper management of NBA teams is not uncommon. Most of the time it is males and most of them never took lower level positions despite having no NBA experience. The nepotism argument always seems selective and influenced by class, race or sex. I think Anjali getting the GM position for the G League team is a real test and I hope she crushes it.
Great next step move for Lindsay Harding after 4 years as an assistant coach for the Kings now she gets a chance to lead her own team. Her impact as an assistant has been great and this is a well deserved opportunity. I hope these women are a great one-two punch for Stockton!
