Kings star Domantas Sabonis told Sean Cunningham of FOX 40 Sacramento (Twitter video link) on Thursday that he was about to get another scan on his right thumb to assess how his avulsion fracture has healed following treatment. While there’s hope that Sabonis will be able to avoid undergoing surgery on the thumb this offseason, that possibility hasn’t yet been ruled out, according to the big man.
Asked about whether or not he’ll be able to play for Lithuania in this year’s World Cup, Sabonis said it will depend on the results of his latest scan and the treatment plan for his thumb going forward.
Here’s more on the Kings:
- Kings guard Davion Mitchell has new representation, having made the move from CAA to Octagon Basketball — Octagon posted a tweet welcoming Mitchell to the agency. The former lottery pick will be extension-eligible during the 2024 offseason and would become a restricted free agent in 2025 if he doesn’t sign an extension before then.
- Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee takes a closer look at the Kings’ potential next steps with EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov, whose NBA rights are controlled by Sacramento. According to Anderson, the team’s offer for the 27-year-old will likely start in the neighborhood of $3-4MM. That would be roughly equivalent to the first-year salary for a player drafted between Nos. 15-21 in 2023.
- In a separate story for The Sacramento Bee, Anderson examines a few prospects who could be targets for the Kings at No. 24 in this month’s draft. As Anderson notes, general manager Monte McNair has a track record of selecting older college players with Sacramento’s first-round picks, so forwards like Trayce Jackson-Davis and Kris Murray (Keegan Murray‘s twin brother) could be on the team’s radar.
- In case you missed it, Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez is believed to be one of the finalists in the Raptors’ head coaching search. Toronto is expected to make a decision is relatively soon.
Draft the twin

you could tell the difference. kris shoots left handed.
Sasha will be an excellent addition. He’s a good shooter and high % shot maker. Makes Kings deeper and better. Plus he can step right in. Kings should be targeting a Center at #24. You add a rim protector, rebounder. And this is a very good team.
I’ve seen GG Jackson dropping on boards. Don’t really get it. He’s one of youngest players in the draft. Still growing physically. If he falls to Kings. I’d pounce on that. Years away but worth it.

I think you said it, “years away” is probably why GG is dropping, plus I’ve read some different things about immaturity, even for an 18 year old is one of the main concerns. So I’d be surprised if the kings drafted a guy like that because they are in their “win now” window so I would expect them to draft a guy they think could give them some minutes down the stretch and in the playoffs. But I do think the talent is definitely there for GG, he just needs to put it together and mentally age a bit
Yeah I’ve read those too. He hasn’t handled being top player of his class well. But you have to know him to really know. Unfortunately immaturity does get in the way of success in life. I’m sure teams will chk him out.
Kings had a great season making the playoffs and doing bits, love the culture they built and looks very different to previous kings teams. However what they kinda need to do but are to scared to do is make moves and continue getting better.
Fox Murray and Sabonis should be the untouchables and be gushing the value of everyone else and seeing what’s out there.
I’d definitely consider Daivon Mitchell for Patrick Williams
Bulls could definitely do with another point guard with Lonzo out, Daivon is a terrific defender and could develop for offensively if given a bigger role. Patrick Williams could be used with Barnes and Murray as a combo 3 and D forward. Eventually Barnes will likely leave and Patty can step up into his starting role.
Another deal would be Richaun Holmes for Patty Mills
Nets have said they want to add size and depth among the bigs. Holmes could be the back up to Claxton and isn’t on an overly expensive deal.
Patty Mills would be a great replacement for Mitchell and be the back up point guard for this kings team. Heaps of experience, great shooter, a known for stepping up in big games when needed.
Then lastly in just making the right FA signings to complete the roster. I’d try my luck going after Mason Plumblee to be the back up centre and then some good wings defenders like 2 of Mattise Thybulle, Derick Jones Jr, Troy Brown Jr, Jae Crowder and Cam Reddish.
Kings then have the 24th, 38th and 54th picks in the draft to use as sweeteners to bring in guys for depth and development.
Then next season you might be looking something like …
Fox Heuter Murray Barnes Sabonis
Mills Monk Reddish Williams Plumblee
Amari Bailey Brown Jr Edwards Lyles Metu
Huerter turned out to be a great trade for them.
Exactly they need to keep making great moves
Trade Holmes and a future 1st for a defensive shot blocking PF. Also draft Jackson-Davis.
