The Lakers are guaranteeing Jarred Vanderbilt‘s $4,698,000 salary for next season, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin tweets.
Acquired from Utah at the trade deadline, Vanderbilt immediately jumped into the starting lineup and averaged 7.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 26 games after joining the Lakers. He also averaged 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15 postseason contests, including 13 starts.
His contract only had a partial guarantee of $300K for 2023/24. The Lakers had until Friday to decide whether to guarantee his full salary, but there was little doubt they’d want to retain a 24-year-old rotation player at a team-friendly price.
Vanderbilt was included as part of a three-team blockbuster deal involving the Lakers, Jazz and Timberwolves.
He is eligible for a contract extension worth up to four years and a projected $71MM, starting on Sept. 7, per McMenamin.
As our list of early salary guarantee dates shows, the Lakers will also have to make a decision later this week on whether or not to guarantee Mohamed Bamba‘s $10.3MM salary for ’23/24.
The only correct move. Vanderbilt has some offensive limitations, but his defense is top tier. One of my favorite guys to watch.
Jarred Vanderbilt is that dude!!! I’m totally with you on this one. Between him D’Angelo Russell Malik Beasley and Mo Bamba he was our best player we got at the trade deadline. He completely changed our defense around for us and put on a show on the defensive end. He can easily guard 1-4 on the court at a very high level. Him and Dennis Schroder was a major reason why our defense was as good as it was in the second half of the season and in the playoffs. We need to do what it takes to bring them both back. I love Jarred Vanderbilt in the starting lineup guarding the opponents top perimeter player.
Jarred Vanderbilt needs to become a knock down corner three point shooter. That’s the shot that teams will give him and he needs to be able to knock it down.
Darvin Ham should’ve put him back in the starting lineup when we played the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals and should’ve assigned him to Jamal Murray. I know Jamal Murray wouldn’t played that good if Jarred Vanderbilt was the primary defensive player.
Jarred Vanderbilt playing this season for $4.7 million is a major bargain!!!!!!!
If we don’t get a Center to start to move Anthony Davis to Power Forward I want to see Jarred Vanderbilt back in the starting lineup. He raises havoc on the defensive end. Just ask Luka Doncic and Brandon Ingram about him. Then in the playoffs he made Ja Morant and Stephen Curry work for their points. They Superstars so they going to get theirs but the way he makes them work is what you looking for in your role player.
I tell you what. If Anthony Davis plays 65 plus games and Jarred Vanderbilt and Dennis Schroder both get brought back the Los Angeles Lakers will be the best defensive team in the NBA.
I hate to break it to you but the Lakers aren’t signing a center. They are obsessed with trying to play him at the 5, even with all that stats suggesting that is a terrible move
Vando is a special player…
Not a star level player… But does the little things that make a big difference…
With a decent corner 3 in his pocket he’d be a great fit on any team…
I’m interested to see if he ever cleans up his hands (bobbles way too many passes by rim) and develops any kinda move inside the arc.
Id also like to see him hit the offensive glass a little harder but realize it’s tough when sometimes you got special assignments guarding the guards who are getting down the court
Just curious if he ever levels up, history and age would lean No but it happens all the time sporadically throughout the league here and there . Love the player as well tho as is
He’s been working on a 3. He took 90 threes last season and hit on .322. Doesn’t seem like much but prior to last season he’d taken a total of 21 while hitting 3 of them over the past 4 seasons combined.
This just in from LatinX America ……..
La ventana está cerrada !!!!!!!!
Bring Caruso back.and Lakers are in a great position for next season.
KCP Also, it would be dreaming. If they somehow get both, the Lakers are a prime title contender again.
Even with one of them, they’ll be very well.
I’d say Caruso might be more attainable.
As good an addition, as any contender could get
Guaranteeing Vanderbilt was a no brainer. Excellent piece
