JULY 6: The Lakers have officially signed Reddish, the team confirmed in a press release.
JUNE 30: The Lakers are signing free agent forward Cam Reddish to a two-year contract, per Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times and Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter links).
Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul informs Dave McMenamin of ESPN that the second year of the agreement will be a player option. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reveals (via Twitter) that the contract will be a minimum deal.
The athletic 6’8″ small forward is already pretty well-traveled as he embarks on just his fifth NBA season in 2023/24. The Hawks selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 2018 draft out of Duke. He has since suited up, briefly, for the Knicks and Trail Blazers.
Splitting his 2022/23 season between New York and Portland, he averaged 9.7 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 1.4 APG and 1.0 APG in 40 contests.
Los Angeles has enjoyed a very proactive first few hours of free agency. Beyond taking this flyer on Reddish, the Lakers have also already re-signed restricted free agent power forward Rui Hachimura and added point guard Gabe Vincent and combo forward Taurean Prince.
L.A. will now determine the fates of restricted free agent shooting guard Austin Reaves, plus unrestricted free agent guards D’Angelo Russell, Dennis Schroder, and Lonnie Walker IV, all of whom helped the club return to its first Western Conference Finals since 2020.
This could be a very nice signing
Cam Reddish coming to the Los Angeles Lakers is a move I love!!! Duke product going to come to L.A. and revive his career. His strong suit is defense being 6’8 220 with 7’1 wingspan will have him guarding three positions. I just need him to become a consistent 36% three point shooter. Playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis will do wonders to his career.
Every team that’s had him has thought he’d “turn it around”. How long until maybe a guy just gets seen for what he is? And what exactly is AD gonna help him with? How to properly warm the bench when you’re injured?
hahahaha! loose
Love this
That’s a great get for the Lakers good young guy to take a flyer on especially for a minimum with the Lakers development staff he should be ready.
Hate to say it but lakers offseason > nugs offseason. Wonder what’s going on with reaves…..
Reddish is worth taking a flyer on at 2 years at the minimum.
Lakers are better
Nuggets are Heat are worse
Nuggets starting 5 still better…
Los Angeles Lakers will do better if they resign Dennis Schroder over D’Angelo Russell. Dennis Schroder plays great on ball defense and D’Angelo Russell is a defensive liability. He is younger and a better offensive player but I still would rather have Dennis Schroder. We will most definitely need Austin Reaves back.
Rip
Got a feeling the Lakers FO is aware that Reaves is getting a massive offer sheet and they might not match it. Watch for it. Makes sense for one of these teams that’s still under the minimum salary, like Houston.
Lakers will match any offer Reeves gets. There is no rush
Why not. Let Bron have a go at him. Miracles do happen.
A two year deal seems like a stretch. Reddish has not shown much of anything in the league so far. I guess he’s young but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was traded before that contract is up.
If Bron can’t get through to him no one can.
