The Pacers may be prepared to offer Nuggets free agent Bruce Brown a contract worth more than $20MM per season, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Brown has become one of the hottest names on the free agent market, and several teams are hoping to land him with the $12.4MM non-taxpayer mid-level exception. Brown has reportedly scheduled meetings with five teams — the Knicks, Rockets, Mavericks and Lakers as well as Indiana. The Cavaliers and Timberwolves also consider Brown their top target, according to Fischer.
The Pacers have roughly $30MM in cap room, so signing Brown would account for most of that and would take them out of the running for other free agents, such as Heat shooting guard Max Strus.
Returning to Denver is also in play for Brown, according to Fischer, although the Nuggets can only pay him $7.8MM next season. Brown would be eligible to earn more than $50MM over four years from Denver next summer, which is still well short of the Pacers’ reported offer.
Get ya money young man!!!
I’m a Bruce Brown fan and I said last night I think he will be the perfect fit for the Indiana Pacers. He was the 6th man for the Denver Nuggets but he can actually start over there. $20 million a season for a role player is a whole lot of money. He is a Swiss Army Knife and can do it all on the court. He will be 27 years old when next season starts so he’s right there in age with Myles Turner. He’s bringing championship pedigree. I’m interested in seeing how it turns out. I’m about to tune in to NBA Today. It’s going down.
James Harden wanting out is going to be a blessing in disguise for Nick Nurse Joel Embiid and definitely Tyrese Maxey. He’s a star in the making but he might not reach them goals if James Harden stays.
I’ll trade James Harden to the west coast and send him to the Los Angeles Clippers like he wants. Daryl Morey should do right by him. I’ll tell them to send me Norman Powell who will be my starting shooting guard and Marcus Morris to his hometown team and come off the bench to replace Georges Niang. Addition by subtraction is always great.
Pacers are gonna be disappointed. Brown is a solid player but he doesn’t do anything in particular really well and was pretty bad for long stretches of the regular season. It was only when, in the post season, Jokic and Murray started playing most of every game, and Brown started playing with them (especially Jokic) more, that he started looking good. He doesn’t create offense for himself or anyone else, and his D is fine but nothing special. But there’s nothing else on the FA market so here we are.
Yeah, players can be good when defenses collapse on other hood players on the court. He was in a fortunate situation and took advantage of that. Personally I wouldn’t sign him for $20M per, but can’t blame him if he goes for it. Pacers need to exercise patience before they make a move they’ll regret later.
looks like the Pacers has out bid the playoff teams and Denver for his services.
He’d fit well by Haliburton. For over $20+ AAV though? $15-18M a year is the sweet spot, I wouldn’t go past that range. Was a great piece for Denver in the playoffs, but you have an MVP and a very solid starting lineup around him. He’d take a step back outside of that lineup.
Dgee
What should the Lakers do?
Lakers are confident.
Who do you need?
Brown or DLo?
There’s nothing they can do. $12m is their cap whether they keep DLo or not.
Over $20 mil? He is 100% not worth that. That is a ridiculous contract for a player like him
Bad organizations make bad decisions often.
The only way a popular free agent is going to Indiana is with an overpay unfortunately.
While we all put players in money brackets the cap just doesn’t line up as congruently from team to team
Indys got like 2 spots only available, they are primed to over-pay a tad , kinda like Hou FVV
Ofc you could argue this isn’t a great long term strategy (cough OKC) and your not maximizing your roster but most of these overpay deals come from teams on the way up where cap issues dont exist and its hard prying stars to their cities – I wouldnt mind an overpay here as long as its not like 4 years of an overpay – Id even sign off on a 2/45 here as it probably never inhibits Indy for that duration
Even the most hard core Nuggets fan couldn’t blame him for taking a deal like that.
I can’t of course I want him back
No doubt that there are 30 teams that would love to have a guy like Brown. That said, I don’t know why he would be the Pacers biggest target this offseason.
Sure, they got rid of Duarte, but they still need to add to their front court than they do the backcourt. Hield, Mathurin, Halliburton, Nembhard and McConnell are all under contract and have for the most part been healthy over the past two seasons. Unless there’s a trade that moves one of the above for more front court help, the Pacers would be better suited to go after someone like Grant Williams, or Jerami Grant.
Did the Pacer’s brass do some kind of peyote retreat?
Since when are the Pacers close enough to going for it like this and adding a piece such as Brown to get them over the top in toughness and defense?
Brown found his sponsor. Whether he signs with IND or not, and whatever their purpose, they did right by him.
Brown and Haliburton is a great combo.
Haliburton – Nemhart
Brown – Nesmith
Mathurin – Nwora
Walker – ?
Turner – Smith
It’s getting there!
I told you all about the Pistons and pacers
