The Sixers will extend a $2.29MM qualifying offer to back-up big man Paul Reed, sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link).
Reed, 24, set career highs in his third season with the team by appearing in 69 games and averaging 10.9 minutes per night. He contributed 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 59.3% from the field.
The qualifying offer means Reed will be a restricted free agent and Philadelphia can match whatever offer sheet he receives.
Paul said last month that he hopes to re-sign with the Sixers. He has the option of accepting the QO as a one-year contract or testing the open market.
Prediction
Reed will sign 3 years $27 million contract with team option at 3rd year
If he gets that, I wish him the best of luck in his new city. Philly isn’t going to match that.
That’s actually not the worst prediction. Reed is a good backup. 9 million a year is what… 3-4 million ten years ago?
That’s about the number (per year) Daniel Theis got on his last contract. Reed can get that as well.
9m for a guy who avg 10 minutes & 4pts? Maybe if he were unrestricted , but he has no leverage.
He might never be more then a 2nd unit energy guy but when he plays. He brings energy and hard work. I love him as a back up C/PF
Excellent backup. He brings a lot of energy and would be worth every penny.
What I like about Reed, his steal and block rates are pretty good. His defensive rebound rate is solid. That said, he’s not going to get a lot of minutes as Embiid’s backup.
Should be playing PF/SF spot minutes at C. Maybe he should be starting next to Joel or back to the bench
