There’s been plenty of speculation about the Pistons making offers to restricted free agent Cameron Johnson and unrestricted free agent Jerami Grant. The Athletic’s James Edwards III believes another forward might make a nice fit in the short-term — Kings unrestricted free agent Harrison Barnes.
Edwards doesn’t think a big one- or two-year offer to Barnes is out of the question, noting that the veeteran could provide a stabilizing force to the team’s young core.
We have more on the Pistons:
- In the same piece, Edwards said the Pistons are likely to bring back several veteran reserves. It’s expected they’ll exercise their teams options on Alec Burks ($10,489,600) and Isaiah Livers ($1,836,096). Unrestricted free agent Rodney McGruder could also return, presumably on a veteran’s minimum deal, for a fourth consecutive season.
- It’s not only unlikely the Pistons will pursue a rookie scale extension with Killian Hayes, the 2020 lottery pick may have to scrounge for playing time, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press opines. With the addition of Marcus Sasser in the draft, Hayes will have to fight for minutes off the bench with the rookie and Burks behind starters Jaden Ivey and Cade Cunningham. The Pistons will also have plenty of options at the wing, including rookie Ausar Thompson and Bojan Bogdanovic, so the Pistons may use fewer three-guard lineups.
- GM Troy Weaver has placed a premium on high character, low-maintenance players since he joined the franchise. Thompson and Sasser fit that mold, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com writes. “These two young men represent what we want to be about here in Detroit,” Weaver said. “We doubled down hard with these two. These two young men are about the right things.”
Pistons need Draymond Green leadership
Everyone wants Johnson and Grant.
Bahahahahaha
They already have a pretty strong locker room and I don’t think Green qualifies as low maintenance.
Now, you do need to add a starter, and a championship level vet would be great, but I don’t think Green is that guy.
As a Pistons’ fan, I have the following as my big ticket FA’s for the Pistons: 1) Cam, 2) Barnes, 3) Grant, 4) Washington, 5) Kuzma
Update- everyone needs Draymond according to Sully boy
Spurs trade for Hayes ?
Might make transitioning to US
a little easier for Wemby.
Miles Bridges is also a shout that doesn’t get mentioned for obvious reasons.
From Flint, Michigan just north of Detroit.
He’s only 25 years old, value not extremely high.
6’7 and can play either forward spot.
47-35-81 shooting line.
Can rebound, pass and defends well.
Hard to gauge his market and his value but I think they could offer him a deal 3 years 60mil and it would interest him for sure. Returning home, great fit with guys like Cade, Ivey, Duren etc.
Then because he hasn’t cost you an arm and a leg and because you have all this moveable depth (Bagley, Burks, Stewart, Hayes, Bogi, Wiseman) you could even consider making a trade or two if you wanted.
Potential sign and trade for another Michigan product in Draymond Green.
Bagley and Bogi for Draymond bus sign and trade
Leaving you with …
Cade Ivey Bridges Green Duren
Hayes Burks Thompson Stewart Wiseman
Sasser … … Livers …
Very young and raw but under the guidance of Draymond and Monty Williams I could see them potentially making the playoffs
Improbable that Green gets traded if signed, but okay. Warriors need defense and size, and Bagley hasn’t improved enough on defense to make up for the giant loss in defense going out.
Stewart and Bojan (expiring, and only 2MM guaranteed in 24-25 when Warriors want to avoid 2nd tax apron), plus pieces for matching…Sasser? 2nd rd pick?
Did you read the part about the high-character, low maintenance guys? I don’t think Bridges qualifies at this point.
Just trade Wiseman and Bagley to the Hawks for Capala and Gay and a 2nd. I think the Pistons are going to start messing up like Atlanta and the Celtics. (Celtics for trading Smart instead of Brodgon or White)
White is a better player than smart and teams shied away from Malcolm Brogdon with his injury and history. Smart was the only option there for memphis.
Boston did not mess up. They received kristaps porzingis, two first round picks.., for Marcus smart. Pretty great trade from the Celtics perspective.
I like kristaps to the Celtics but who cares about picks. The Celtics should of traded picks with Brodgon or White
Atlanta sure would be messing up if they made that trade!
Or play Duren at PF. Have him start shooting now since he’s 19 and only 6’10 maybe. Keep Wiseman. Keep Stewart as first big off the bench. Trade Bogdon and Bagley to Atlanta for Griffin, Bogdon and gay
Having one of Bagley or Wiseman is fine, but having both causes major rotation issues – hopefully The Weave finds a way to move one of them and acquire a true starting four who can shoot and defend.
Marvin Bagley and James Wiseman are sort of the same guy it seems. You look at their bodies and skills and you expect so much more. But there’s something missing between the ears I think. Can’t put it together except in flashes.
Yes they’ve been hurt a little bit and that slowed them down but wow these guys can run, can shoot a little, they’re youngish, and would seem to have so much amazing potential.
You’d think!
