Kennedy Chandler is hoping for a two-way contract offer from the Nets after getting extensive playing time with their Summer League team, writes Brian Lewis of The New York Post. Chandler averaged 14.0 points, 5.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in Las Vegas, but he did little to ease concerns about his outside shot. He was just 2-of-14 from beyond the arc during Summer League after shooting 13.3% on three-pointers with the Grizzlies last season.
Armoni Brooks and second-round pick Jalen Wilson hold two of Brooklyn’s two-way spots, but there’s an opening after RaiQuan Gray, who was in line for the other one, was waived this week. Chandler is expected to receive consideration, according to Lewis, but his fate might depend on who else becomes available.
Chandler was an intriguing prospect with Memphis a year ago after a strong season at Tennessee and a 41 1/2-inch leap at the draft combine. However, he was waived on the final weekend of the season when the Grizzlies promoted Kenneth Lofton Jr. to a standard contract. Chandler has guaranteed money for two more years, but he doesn’t want to face the end of his NBA career at age 20.
“That’s the whole point of me playing this summer,” he said. “I want to play every single game, kill, dominate whoever is in front of me. And not just worry about myself, honestly. You just worry about doing what I can do; then the rest will come.”
There’s more from the Atlantic Division:
- The Raptors are exploring the market for Pascal Siakam, but they aren’t interested in trading OG Anunoby, according to Eric Koreen of The Athletic. Koreen confirms that Toronto talked to Charlotte and Portland about moving Siakam in a deal for the No. 2 or No. 3 pick, but never got close to a trade with either team. He adds that if Raptors officials don’t like the offers they get for Siakam, they’re likely to begin extension talks sometime this summer.
- As Sixers guard James Harden waits for a trade, he has removed any mention of the team or Philadelphia from his social media accounts, per Dhani Joseph of The New York Post.
- Sixers owner Josh Harris felt “humbled and awed” after his group’s purchase of the NFL’s Washington Commanders for a record $6.05 billion was finalized this week, writes John Keim of ESPN. “I feel an awesome responsibility to the city of Washington,” said Harris, who grew up in the area. “I know what I’ve got to do. It comes down to winning. It’s on me and on our ownership group to deliver. That’s what we’re going to do.”
Seriously who in the NBA is going to trade for
Harden ……….. ??????
?????????????????????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????????!!!!!
Exactly so take the Clippers offer …….
Nope, we would be better off sitting him for the year and having 50+ mil in cap space next year than we would be accepting Powell or any of the other current rumors
Yeah another wasted yr for the Team and GM. That’s the process alright …….
With Tobias and Harden coming off the books. You have more than that available. But who wants to go to Philly. That’s the real question.
And taking a bad deal for harden doesn’t waste the year and then possibly longer? You make no sense.
Joel Embiid got married yesterday. James Harden was not there. Obviously, it’s just a We are Philly teammates relationship. Harden was at the clubs, and yes, eating burgers.
Harden is killing himself right now. Clippers are a poor fit.
Harden is not going to sit out because he doesn’t want to be fined heavily, and not get paid. Remember, the offseason James Harden is way out of shape pics from when he forced his way out of Houston. Dude has no interest in a ring.
Harden has plenty of $$$$. He can sit out. Frankly why would the players want him back. Moreyon is clueless. He should just move on. I’m Philli I rather have McBride as my starting PG. Quickley, Maxey s teammate is available. I do that in a min. Philly is just wasting Embiids best yrs lol.
Can you just worry about the knicks? You are way to interested in a team you don’t have interest in… and the “Moreyon” crap is played out. Zero of us care what you think of Morey
Raptors have been trading Siakam for two yrs now. He’s not going anywhere. Cause nobody values him like Raptors do. Especially since he’s soon to be a FA.
Raptors front office is massively disconnected from the rest of the league in terms of trade value, they always have been. Not sure if they are worried about attracting big name free agents to live in Canada, or if they truly believe their guys are superstars. Hard to say. Part of it maybe that the front office believes it can make another Leonard deal/rental and make it back to the finals? Or maybe they overvalue guys who helped them win that championship. However you look at it, they need to do something because they have talent and it’s not working.
Siakam holds the advantage over Toronto. He can become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. He has let it be known that he will NOT sign an extension with any team that trades for him. He cannot get a Super Max from team that trades for him. If he gets traded, he will play out the year, and then become an unrestricted free agent, and choose his next destination for Max money. If he is not traded, and is All-NBA, Toronto is eligible to give him a Super Max.
Toronto needs to give Siakam his money, and trade OG. Siakam is not a #1 alpha franchise guy, but he proved how dangerous he can be when paired alongside a true alpha like Kawhi Leonard.
Toronto also has to deal with their “Scottie Barnes problem”. Rookie year went to Scottie’s head, and he didn’t want to listen to anybody last year. Fred Van Vleet tried to give Scottie advice. Scottie didn’t want to listen, and Scottie wanted the ball in his hands, and not in Fred’s. Toronto right now is trying to figure out exactly how good of a player that Scottie really is. I’ve known Fred since he was a sophomore in high school. Fred ain’t never been a dude on bullcrap. Just trying to win. Toronto’s front office had to have a discussion with Scottie to try and get his head screwed back on.
Toronto could find itself in a rebuild. They are in danger of both Pascal and OG leaving unrestricted, or being dumped at the trade deadline at far below value. The ultimate decision, like with Fred, is NOT in their hands.
The Raps just need to pick a direction. You either go all in now or you start flipping the older guys like Siakam, for picks and a younger player on Scottys timeline. It makes sense to hang onto OG as his timeline fits Scotties.
They seem to be waiting for the players to make the decisions for them. They tried to hold on with Fred, but were not upset to see him leave. Couldn’t decide which side of the fence to be on, so it got decided when Houston put the massive offer in front of Fred. No brainer! The situation with Fred and Scottie hadn’t changed, and both wanted the ball in their hands.
OG also wants to showcase his all-around game, and play like Pascal.
While everybody is showcasing their all-around game ….. Toronto remains a poor three-point shooting team. Even with Gary Trent, Jr. and OG. This is why Grady Dick was selected. They also have to get Scotty and his jumper together. He is more of a glue guy type right now. If the ball isn’t in his hands making decisions, then Scotty doesn’t provide a lot offensively right now. He has to discover exactly what he is going to be in this league, or mediocrity awaits.
No no … Siakam is 29 yrs old. OG is 26 and cheaper. They are better getting value for Siakam. And building around Scotty, OG, Poeltl. That’s the way to go. That’s how you build a team. Deep with talent …..
I’m Raptors I do all I can to get Giddey. A real PG.
I don’t envy the position Toronto is in. They had Pascal, OG, Scotty, Fred, Gary Trent and traded for Poeltl. All that, and still didn’t make the playoffs.
Scotty is the huge question in terms of building around. He not only bumped heads with Fred in a major way, but got into a verbal altercation with another vet, Thad Young, who was mentoring him, on camera before a game. Didn’t want to listen after rookie year. If you get Rookie Year Scotty back …. Hmmm ….
OG wants to play like Pascal, but hasn’t proven he can be more than a 3-D guy. What if you choose OG and he is just a 3-D guy.
I get it with Pascal’s age, but he is the best player, and still may be three years from now.
A lot of ways to make right decisions. A lot of ways to make wrong decisions.
That’s why they make the big bucks lol. To make those decisions. OG is a nice player. I just see Siakam as bringing back more value. At some point you have to go with what you got ….
Look I’m an Obi guy. But Knicks chose Randle. Figured they would so you ride that. Scotty is the guy there now. Most of that is immaturity to me. FVV is gone. That should tell you something. Imo they are a real PG away.
Obi is the new starting power forward for the Pacers. The Knicks did right by him. Jarace Walker not ready yet. Obi will get his chance.
Harris hasn’t made good decisions with the sizers, why would anyone believe that he will for the redskins?
$6 billion for a D.C. NFL team?
This will be a regret before long…
James Harden clearly didn’t pay attention to Russell Westbrook last year. Had it not been for the Clippers stepping in because of Paul George, Westbrook may not have found a new team. Contenders didn’t have a role, and didn’t want to deal with him not playing. Rebuilding teams didn’t want him taking minutes and usage from young players.
Harden is NOT a fit with the Clippers. They have their alpha players with Kawhi and Paul George. They need guys to play roles. They don’t need Harden to score, or distribute when you have Westbrook, and when both are weak defenders.
Clippers have Tre Mann and Bones Hyland. No need for a washed James Harden.
Philly wants and needs him even though he is washed. Not sure if any other teams feel the same way. His beloved Houston Rockets didn’t.
It also has to be factored in that Harden will pout like a baby if you don’t do things his way. He wants to be valued like prime Harden, which he most certainly isn’t any more…
Decline happens, but bad attitude and a current reputation for being difficult are things a player brings upon himself.
Exactly why Harden may be on the verge of putting himself out of the league. It took a lot of work, for a Laker team with LeBron, to finally get Westbrook to be the 6th man. Then they had to get him out entirely. He nearly didn’t find a team.
If it ain’t Philly or the Clippers Harden might be stuck. If he sits a year, he may well find himself having to play 2024 with a massive pay cut. He ain’t that guy anymore, and every day he gets a bit further from it. He is gonna have to realize that, or it may be a wrap.
Mock Siakim deals….
1. Siakim and GTJ for Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro
Miami wants to add another star and have eyes set to Dame but the negotiations appear along way off. Pascal is the perfect sidekick that fits into also any system and works. He offers some shooting, some playmaking, good defence and good scoring. Miami loses Lowry their back up PG they were looking at waiving earlier this offseason and Tyler Herro, who hasn’t been able to adjust to being a starter, more of just a bench scorer. GTJ basically replaces him yet offers better defence and can start if you need him too.
For Toronto, Lowry returns as you need a PG with FVV having left. Lowry has a solid expiring deal, but knows the team and could go out in style and retire a Raptor if he wanted. They also get Tyler Herro who fits the need for scoring at the SG position. He adds to a young core of Scottie and OG and helps this raptors team in a competitive rebuild of sorts.
2. Siakim and Otto Porter for Lu Dort, Bertans, Ousmane Deing and Carson Wallace.
Thunder don’t give up any picks but decide to ramp up their competitiveness. Pascal fits perfectly in as the starting 4 and helping Chet Holmgren in his first season in the league. Offensively he doesn’t take that many touches away from Giddey or Shai more or less just takes some of the load off and makes their job easier.
You give up Dort who is a good perimeter defender, Bertans is just an unwanted contract, Deing wasn’t really getting minutes and Wallace isn’t really needed with Giddey, Shai, Mann, Washington and Micić. Otto gives you a good experienced 3 and D forward for depth too.
All of a sudden this side would win a bunch of games and make some noise in the playoffs.
For Toronto, you get a mini haul. Lu Dort returns home to Canada and competes with GTJ and Gradey for minutes on the wing. Wallace is a solid pick up that’ll earn minutes behind Schroder and Deing needs developing but is a good young wing/forward to work with. You’d have a solid little young core but still be a really competitive side.
These guys are gonna give up all this for a player who is not going to sign an extension, and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season?
Pascal has the advantage. At the end of the season he can select his designation. Trade for him at your own risk.
You trade with an extension in place. It’s why he stays till TD. They can resign him by then and trade him. Raptors need a PG to become legit. Scoot would have been perfect for them. But they probably asked for too much from Blazers.
I would have took Simons, Sharpe, two #1 picks, Scoot. Even one pick
End of the day it’s up to pascal and all he knows is Toronto. Maybe he likes where he ends up and wants to stay you never know.
Clearly he wants to stay, raptors don’t want to pay him and would rather cash in on him.
So what’s his options, stay until FA and settle for the raptors offer if your that desperate to stay or end up leaving. If your unwanted then I’d think he’d rather help work out a deal to pick where he’d rather end up.
He’s not exactly the prototypical got to Miami guy but I feel like anyone in his position would like it. Nice weather, playoff run, doesn’t have to be the first option, built around working hard and playing the right way.
If that’s not of interest maybe OKC and helping young guys and going out west for a change.
As for what those teams are giving up. Lowry is near worthless and it’s clear they want to upgrade from Herro. They championship window isn’t massive maybe they roll the dice on Pascal and try convince him to stay.
OKC what are they giving up, Dort isn’t exactly a long term piece, Bertans is unwanted, Deing is way down the pecking order and Wallace is a good prospect but not exactly needed. Pascal would be huge for them
I wouldn’t move GTJ for Herro and Lowry let alone adding Siakam.
