Raptors forward Pascal Siakam is still a potential trade candidate for Toronto, but the club is taking its time and showing no urgency to make a move, writes Doug Smith of The Toronto Star.
There’s “more smoke than fire” around Siakam, according to Star, who says the Raptors do not feel a particular obligation to move their veteran star, who at present appears happy to remain with the only NBA team he’s ever known.
The 6’9″ forward submitted his most prolific scoring season yet on a middling 41-41 club in 2022/23, averaging 24.2 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 5.8 APG, 0.9 SPG and 0.5 BPG.
Smith adds that the $1.9MM non-guaranteed contract of sharpshooter Joe Wieskamp is due to be fully guaranteed Monday, but predicts that Wieskamp is more likely be released than retained.
There’s more out of the Atlantic Division:
- The Knicks, who boast one of the best collections of assets in the league, may have the inclination and the pieces to make a trade for Raptors 3-and-D swingman OG Anunoby, writes Zach Braziller of The New York Post. Anunoby was one of the most coveted players to not be moved during this past season’s trade deadline. The 2022/23 All-Defensive Second Teamer averaged 16.8 PPG on .476/.387/.838 shooting splits, 5.0 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.9 SPG across his 67 available contests last year.
- Although rival front offices believe the Sixers are hoping to hold on to star point guard James Harden, a source close to the 2018 MVP says he still wants to be traded for the third time in three seasons, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.
- Celtics rookie forward Jordan Walsh has been solid enough during his Summer League run with Boston that it’s conceivable he could eventually slot into the team’s rotation as a possible Grant Williams replacement this year, opines Jared Weiss of The Athletic. Williams, of course, was sent to Dallas in a three-team sign-and-trade earlier this week.
Shouldn’t that read “not likely to happen” for Wieskamp? The sentence usually wouldn’t have “but” if it were likely.
You are correct, tweaked that.
The Knicks have one of the best collections of assets in the league? Then why don’t other teams want them?
Sorry, meant that more in terms of draft pieces than actual players. Have amended it!
The Knicks assets are only valuable to the Knicks, because they aren’t valuable assets. You answered your own question.
Only Knicks fans think they are a real team.
Eight #1 picks aren’t valuable….. says ANOTHER genius. Who doesn’t even know what a Team looks like.
Even their supposed stockpile of picks are worthless, the Dallas pick is Top 10 protected, the Detroit pick is Top 9 protected through 2027 and the Washington pick is Top 8 protected through 2026. No idea where all these assets are.
Again, if they had so many assets, they would have done something with them by now but as always, they overrate their young players and draft capital.
The Knicks should have been awarded that pick in the #11 slot because Dallas should have been penalized for intentionally sitting players the last two games when they had a legitimate shot at the play-in. The NBA needs to put teeth behind their warnings against sitting star players. You can get much more blatant than what Dallas did. Silver should have called them on it and said if you don’t play your top players while you’re still eligible in order to save your pick, you will be dropped a slot. By the way, the Nets are my team, not the Knicks, though I don’t hate them.
I meant can’t get much more blatant.
I’m a 76ers fan, but the Knicks have talent tha are building blocks,Jalen Brunson,RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, nice role players like Josh Hart & Dante Divincenzo, as w3ll as Young promising young players like Quentin Grimes,Mitchell Robinson, Immanuel Quickley etx…and a slew of draft picks. They have plenty of pieces to obtain a “star”, the problem is, stars don’t become available too often, and when they do become available, teams generally want to be paid about $4 on the dollar and usually settle for slightly less. Minnesota gave up 4 #1s for Rudy Gobert (didn’t understand that one at all, since Rudy is a 1 trick pony, and doesn’t even perform that trick too well anymore.
Out of all the players supposedly “available” OG is the only one I’d give up serious assets for he fits this team perfectly. 2 firsts Grimes and Fournier..Then save the rest of the ammo for Embid if he becomes available
It’s going to cost the Knicks more than that to get OG. It’s likely three 1sts, Quickley, Fournier and McBride.
I’d pay that if they can lock him up… but I’d try to drop one of those 1sts if it’s Quickley instead of grimes
I’m okay giving up Siakam, but OGs the guy the Raps should keep. If it’s an overpay sure, but I don’t think you trade him for FMV in draft captial. I hope the Raps extend him, Grants contract is his floor.
Harden, Clippers doesn’t make any basketball sense to me. But to be fair Hardens game doesn’t blend well with anyone.
Hardens entire career doesn’t make any basketball sense to me. Of the 3 teams he’s played for, his best title chance was staying in Houston and letting the FO do their job without interference (eg the interference that led to them acquiring Westbrook, or later, that led to them trading him).
I also don’t understand why he’d pick up his player option if he wants to be traded.
4 teams
Yeah iso ball hog who flops every play. Nobody wants harden on their team.
Foolish comment as 4 teams traded for this hall of Famer.
Foolish comment as harden comes off leading the league in helpers.
Let’s just have a blockbuster OG and Siakam for Randle Barret McBride and 2 firsts or something in that vein switch out anyone with Fournier Grimes or Quickley add a pick whatever
Anunoby is a perfect fit for the NYK in terms of skill set, but he’s also that for a lot of teams, many of whom have also engaged TOR on him. Problem is he’s a role player (premium skilled 3&D role player, true, but still a role player), and TOR has, for two trade periods now, set a star’s price for him. Now he’s a rental. Perfect fit or not, the NYK trading for him at a star’s price will end badly in terms of the relinquished assests and the payroll destruction (once we would have to pay him after the year end).
As for our one Celtics draft pick, Jordan Walsh, I’m not sure what to think. He surprisingly made those 4 three pointers in his first game. Then has been cold from three since & looks tentative whether to shoot it or pump fake and drive. Doesn’t seem to get to the rim. But he’s playing lots of minutes and Celts must be encouraging him to take shots. On defense, he seems a bit lost now but D is supposedly his specialty & he gets a steal a game. His legs look skinny and his knee got banged early in game 2. Gotta think he’ll figure out how to play on defense & while tentative to take a three he’s putting up shots; 20 in the last game. For now I give him a B+ and a few points of extra credit. Go Celtics!
I rather have RJ than OG. But RJs defense has taken a step back. We need RJ to take that next step as a 2way player. Consistency
Still waiting on DeM DeR ……. he’s the fit
If the Knicks really want OG then the Knicks should of offered OB1 as part of the trade package. RJ,OB1, Fournier and 3 picks probably would of gotten it done.
