Incoming USC freshman and potential 2024 first-round pick Bronny James collapsed on the court during a workout on Monday at the Galen Center and suffered cardiac arrest, according to reports from TMZ and Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
After being rushed to the hospital, James – the son of NBA superstar LeBron James – is said to be in stable condition. A family spokesperson issued the following statement to TMZ and Charania:
“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.
“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”
A 2023 McDonalds All-American and a consensus four-star recruit, Bronny committed to the Trojans for the 2023/24 season and is widely expected to enter the ’24 NBA draft. LeBron has spoken repeatedly about a desire to play alongside Bronny at the NBA level.
Bronny’s NBA potential has been a subject of much speculation leading up to his first college season, with ESPN placing him 17th on its most recent mock draft for 2024. For now though, his health is the primary concern. We at Hoops Rumors wish Bronny and his family all the best during his recovery.
They should put his college career on hold for a while and find out what caused this. Hopefully he didn’t fall into the the temptation of steroids with all the pressure on him to succeed.
Ok i know this is probably not the time, but isn’t it weird that USC had another top recruit last year-Vincent Iwuchuwku- who also suffered cardiac arrest right before his freshman year? Maybe It’s just a coincidence, but that sounds kinda sketchy
Prayers up to the James gang tho I hope he’s gonna be alright
Buddy Lebron James spends upwards of $1 million a year on his health and fitness. If any part of you actually thinks that he’s giving his son steroids…. Im not even gonna finish this thought. That is how remarkably stupid the thoughts in your head are
The suggestion wasn’t that Lebron is providing them. Young athletes do crazy things, usually on their own.
Prayers to his son to get better.
You must be really naive then. When I was playing AAU growing up, at 15 my Dad had me on weight gainer, Creatine & ultimate orange, which has a now banned substance in it: Ephedra.
Lebron has access to things not even approved by the fda. I’m not saying he is, but I would not put it past him cuz of Biogenesis ledger.
I didn’t say Lebron gave him anything. I seen young people at the gym I worked out at fall into the temptation of steroids to get bigger. Almost any work out place has steroid dealers.
Kid has cardiac arrest and you go to steroids. You should all look up what it is.
His basketball career is probably over.
Get well Kid. Life is more than NBA. Especially for you.
Geez ya think?
I figured they’d have him run suicides in practice tomorrow and just chalk it up to one of those things.
Hopefully the kid will be ok. Maybe too much exertion. Mayne not enough hydration. Lucky to be around a medical staff at the time. Not sure what the weather is throughout the country, but it’s like 107 here in south florida, and those are dangerous temperatures. If its anything like that out there now, that could have also been part of the issue
Dehydration isn’t often misdiagnosed as CARDIAC ARREST!
Dehydration can absolutely cause a cardiac arrest episode.
Yeh this recent heat wave has pushed temps well beyond human endurance levels. Possible, even in a young man.
Cause yes be no
Not just hydration, but maintaining electrolyte levels too. Drinking too much water can actually be detrimental.
This is true
I had to take my ex wife to the hospital for dehydration
She wasn’t feeling well, was an avid water drinker. The worse she felt the more water she drank. She had 0 energy and could barely move when I took her to emergency.
She had drank around 15 liters of water, a few electrolyte packs and a few Gatorade later she felt good as new.
Your body needs sugars and electrolytes
Consuming too much water can k*ll you
Poor lady on a radio show died drinking way to much water to get her kids a Playstation or something a decade ago.
Heartless and classless comments. Show some respect for the kids life
Comments look good to me. Probably because I already had all those classless folks on Mute. Makes my reading experience much less irritating.
Regardless, hope Bronny is okay. Scary stuff.
Using “heartless” about a guy who had a heart attack – really? You are the last one to comment on class.
I wonder if LeBron will rethink of playing this season. Prolly better to focus on family at this time. If anything, he can always come back the following year. Hopefully this wasn’t some misdiagnosed heart condition.
Maybe the whole Lakers team will sit out in solidarity.
Maybe the whole NBA will decide to skip the entire season.
Maybe basketball across the globe will be paused until the almighty LeBron gives the go ahead to resume.
Prayers. This is well beyond anything related to basketball.
Yes. And the attempts at trolling here are even more classless than normal.
I don’t condone trolling but most people absolutely hate nepotism, and even though he might be a talented young player he absolutely would not be getting a story if he wasn’t lebrons son, so I sort of get where the trolls get their vitriol from….
Shut up. How in the he’ll is bronny benefitting from nepotism? Do you even know what it means? Some of you guys have so much misdirected hate, you can’t even pause it to say a prayer. What you meant to say was, if he was white, nobody would care. Smh.
Ok so it’s automatically a race issue, it’s time for you to learn some critical thinking skills. I didn’t say I condone tolling, and saying I’m praying for him is just a stupid way to genuflect. And it is nepotism, because if he was some bench players son no one would give a hoot
People “gave a hoot” when it was Caleb mf Swanigan who died. Guy who averaged 2.3 ppg for his career, but he died at 25 from a heart condition. He got an article on here. Stop BSing.

How many comments on that story?
Exactly
Oh please. You can’t be that daft.
Swanigan is a tragic story! He was loved by many in Portland and at Purdue. I hope Bronny comes through this like LaMarcus Aldridge did. Thankfully he had immediate medical attention.
They can swallow it for ten seconds to think first and not accuse a kid of getting into sh*t or whatever. If their first response is to post bile instead of having some grace, that’s a greater reflection on them than any hatred of nepotism can account for. That’s low-empathy nastiness at best.
If he any other person who is a 2023 McDonalds All-American, consensus four-star recruit and potential top 20 draft pick the story would be covered here as well.
Pretty much any potential draft pick probably would. You don’t even have to go that far.
Bronny James is an NBA-level talent who will play in that league as a rotation regular, all scouts agree and all scouts are especially hard on him too. He might be a 2nd rounder, but some predrafts have him in the first.
If he was to be a nepo baby, he would have this trajectory: bench scrub in college, fails out of college, yet somehow still goes #1 in the draft and the team signs him to a $500M contract before he steps onto the court. That’s what nepotism gets you. You can’t be a nepo baby NBA player, there’s not enough jobs in the league and the press/fan hype will destroy a career to the point where a team cant hide a player at all like that anymore (if they ever could).
Bronny isnt that, on any level.
Whoa. Everyone needs to calm down
Both sides.
But here’s the truth.
Is bronny good. Yea, he’s had privileges most don’t, he has a top 3 b-ball player as a father, can work on his craft while getting tips and instructions at the highest level not afforded to others.
Could he be taking steroids? Possible. Living up to your legendary father is alot of pressure
If he was just a regular Joe? He probably wouldn’t be a 4 star (not 5 star still) recruit. His name and advantages have gotten him to where he is.
A normal 4 star nobody would still get a mention due to the “story” not because of his skill level.
He is getting a nepotism advantage. No child of an NBA player has dropped out and been drafted #1. That example is Ludacris. His nepotism comes from being a 2nd rounder or perhaps undrafted FA as a nobody to being an auto 1st rounder just to lure LBJ to come play for a year or two to whichever team drafts him.
Bronny probably geys 5-10 years in the league as a serviceable player maybe starter on non playoff team , bench peice on a contender.
Maybe lightning strikes twice and he learns to be an all star SG despite his size.
Maybe he flames out after a year or two once daddy retires
Hopefully either way he can live a normal happy productive life outside the NBA.
He’s Lonzo ball.
His younger brothers will be better, he’s just getting all the hype as the “1st” coming of the family legacy
Sure, it’s a bigger story because it’s LeBron’s son, but we’ve all heard several times about “unknown” high school or college basketball or football players collapsing in practice, heart attacks, etc…
It’s not written because it’s LeBron’s son.
It’s written because it’s a young college athlete – that also happens to be LeBron’s son.
Bronny is going in next years NBA draft – all players like that are going to get massive coverage if they have a heart attack.
You sort of get trolling a young man after he suffered cardiac arrest.
Cool.
Exactly – of course many of us are wannabe doctors and want to speculate the cause of this… but bottomline hopes for this kids recovery. It’s a scary situation at any age, but can’t imagine having a child going through this – prayers to the family.
Prayers? What’s that even supposed to mean?
Prayers? What’s that mean?
Even as an agnostic person. I understand its well wishes.l, It’s sending positivity in his direction, it’s the desire to see him recover.
What else would you imagine it to mean?
Dumb question is dumb
Ok i know this is probably not the time, but isn’t it weird that USC had another top recruit last year-Vincent Iwuchuwku- who also suffered cardiac arrest right before his freshman year? Maybe It’s just a coincidence, but that sounds kinda sketchy
Prayers up to the James gang tho I hope he’s gonna be alright
Oh for gods sake…
Horrible news. If you hate Lebron as a player you cannot hate on him as a father. His kids are more famous than 99% of the world. Never do you see or hear him or his family doing stupid things in the world. You have to respect the fact Lebron has been the most talked about athlete ever and never an off court issue. Even if you don’t agree with his politics or flopping his intentions seem to be genuine. As for his kids. They seem hard working and down to earth. It is not easy to raise a family never mind a family of child stars. If you have paid any attention to Bronny over the years you can see his work ethic and dedication. He made himself a pretty good basketball player. A mixture of Austin rivers and Gilbert arenas. I went from a Lebron fan, to despising him and now I can’t do anything but show respect for the man. The way he raised his family was what made me realize he was the real deal when it came to being a good person. At the end of the day thats all that matters.
As for the heart issue. This could be something my sister and close friend had happen. They were born with a small hole in their heart and it went undetected until there early/mid 20’s. They both suffered minor strokes while playing college athletics but were able to make full comebacks. I also believe if it has anything to do with a supplement or vaccine that he took the public should know. The media will not be able to hide from this because of his name. Hopefully whatever it is Bronny will recover fully and live a long healthy life. And there will be some sort of reliable testing for young people all over with heart problems that go undetected for way to long.
I’m not going to say Bronny didn’t have it easy his whole life. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. With that being said, being the son of a top 5 basketball player and having all those expectations must be really difficult on him. Wouldn’t surprise me if all the stress from being pushed so hard led to this incident. Hope he gets better soon
The most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest is an irregular heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation. Rapid, erratic heart signals cause the lower heart chambers to quiver uselessly instead of pumping blood. Certain heart conditions can make you more likely to have this type of heartbeat problem.

Say a prayer for Bronny. ….. god bless
Or he got vaxxed… or, no wait, it was definitely an alien probe.. no wait, hmm I’m running out of ideas… ah, now I got it, steroids, of course, you all are morons and I know it all… no, wait, I got a better idea… it must have been the vaccine. All my friends tell me how bad it is.
Hmm… or maybe I should wait and just hope the kid is alright. Save the negative assumptions and judgments. Seriously….
I’m an atheist. don’t believe in praying.
No. You’re agnostic
Learn the difference if you’re going to tout your beliefs
It’s a free country. You don’t need to do anything that some dude online says to do. Then again, he also can say said things.
Prayers to the James family. May God heal your body and guide you for the rest of your life. I can’t imagine what LeBron is going through. All I hope is for the best for the young man!
It’s a bit ironic to start posts with “prayers” and then go on the attack against other posters. Love your enemies.
