JULY 6: Lopez is back with the Bucks. His deal with Milwaukee is official, per NBA.com’s transaction log.
JULY 3: The Bucks are reuniting the Lopez twins, having agreed to sign free agent center Robin Lopez, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic (Twitter link).
Milwaukee reached a two-year, $48MM deal with Brook Lopez on Saturday. While Charania didn’t specify the terms of Robin’s agreement, Brook’s brother will likely earn the minimum salary, given the team’s cap constraints and the fact that he’s coming off a minimum deal.
A 15-year NBA veteran, Robin spent the 2022/23 campaign with the Cavaliers, playing limited minutes in a frontcourt led by Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. He appeared in just 37 games, averaging 3.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per night. Those numbers were all career lows.
Although Robin’s on-court role in Milwaukee may not be any more expansive than what it was in Cleveland, he’ll provide the Bucks with another veteran leader in the locker room and an experienced option up front if called upon.
It will be Robin’s second go-round with the Bucks. He and Brook also played together for the team in 2019/20.
Having also agreed to bring back free agents Khris Middleton and Jae Crowder, Milwaukee still has at least two or three roster spots to fill, with limited financial resources to do so. The full $5MM taxpayer mid-level exception won’t be available to the team, barring a cost-cutting move.
Still can play 10-15 mins so this is good
If they can unload Grayson or PatC to get some financial relief I’d be fine with either move. Never liked GA, and Pat seemed to wilt last year after getting paid.
I’m afraid if they do move someone in a cost saving effort, it will be Portis. That wouldn’t be cool.
Ah yes, that old saying – likeability wins championships…lmao
Being a jackhole hasn’t gotten GA anything in the NBA so what’s your point?
hilarious locker room videos from the Robin and Brook and a solid 10-15 when needed for the minimum. Good stuff
Jae Crowder staying in Milwaukee makes less and less sense to me by the day. The guy hated playing for them last year (he openly admitted this), he then re signs for the minimum and watches himself get buried on the bench…. I literally don’t get it.
I thought the same thing , jeremyn
He did not get along with coach Bud. new coach will utilize him
Is this in addition to his being confused/upset about barely playing in the series against Miami? Because that’s all I’m aware of.
And it was most likely due to an issue with the coach..who is no longer there. He probably got some kind of assurance regarding playing time, or whatever else, prior to coming back.
It wasn’t because of an issue with Bud, look at the numbers. Crowder stunk vs. Miami and got benched. Everyone wants to blame the coach but fact is he was getting wrecked by Butler and couldn’t hit shots. Unplayable.
@richt. Both can be true. We can see he played awful..heck, he likely sees/understands that..but he also believed he shouldn’t have been benched..by Bud. I’d guess 99.9% of nba players feel they shouldn’t be benched no matter how awful they play.
I will say that if he has now had issues with his last 2 head coaches, it could become a bigger TEAM problem if he butts heads with Griff this season.
Bucks are the team to beat in East …..
Shouldn’t that headline read:
ROBIN LOPEZ SIGNS FOR BUCKS !!
No, it’s brother Brook that’s getting bucks. Robin is getting cents, by comparison.
Compared to all of us Joe Lunchbox’s
They both are getting big DOE.
They should never have let him go a couple of seasons ago. At worst he’s an excellent 14th or 15th man whose good in the locker room and pushes his brother. Robin can still come in and contribute in 10-12 mins when they need some aggression and a big body
he was good for the Wiz the year after that.
Couple of decent low playing time years on the Cavs and Magic
Now that Milwaukee has signed ROBIN,
The team has set their sights on signing……..
BATMAN !!
The statement about the MLE is not entirely accurate. If Crowder is making $4m as anticipated, the Bucks can use up to $2.79m of it, but only if they decide to move on from Thanasis.
I mean, we hardly ever see mid-level signings in that range now that the minimum salary is so high, but I’ll clarify that the full taxpayer MLE isn’t available to them, which was what I meant.
