Free agent guard Malik Beasley is signing a one-year contract with the Bucks, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.
A seven-year veteran, Beasley is signing for the veteran’s minimum of $2,709,849, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets. Milwaukee will carry a cap hit of $2,019,706.
Beasley entered the free agent market when the Lakers declined their $16.5MM option on his contract for next season. Beasley had multiple suitors who were seeking a low-cost perimeter option and the Bucks’ interest in him had previously been reported.
A long-range shooting specialist who holds a career mark of 37.8% from deep, Beasley shot just 35.7% last season, including 35.3% with the Lakers. He was acquired from Utah at the trade deadline in the deal involving Russell Westbrook.
Overall, the 26-year-old appeared in 81 games last season, including 27 starts (25.8 MPG). He was a non-factor in the postseason, appearing in 11 games while shooting 26.9% from long distance in 8.3 MPG.
If he regains his previous form, Beasley could play major minutes as the backup shooting guard behind Grayson Allen. Beasley was a 2016 first-round pick for Denver and spent three-and-a-half seasons there before a two-and-a-half-year stint with Minnesota. He’s averaged 10.8 points in 21.9 minutes through 417 regular-season games.
I know the Lakers need another guard but I’m happy they didn’t re-sign him. He should be a great fit in Milwaukee though, assuming his shooting picks up a bit. Giannis getting triple teamed in the post will help.
Lakers need a center not a guard. Beez plays no D so if he is part of the rotation the Bucks ain’t going too far
We probably need a C more than G but ida taken Beasley back with the next spot based on potential talent/fit
He’s still young and was bounced around so much in the short stint w Lal, thought he’d pair real well w LBJ too
We could use a sharpshooter and he was best available at a great price point- Could have given him a million more comfortably as well but good get for the Bucks
I don’t think we will see the presumably C add here for a while/weeks
Very streaky shooter, but getting him at the minimum, it’s a win for the BUCKS.
I have never liked his game (THJ with less range). But, at minimum, I see the light – good signing.
At that number it’s a win
Well coaches will hopefully be able to teach him to play defense and if it works, it will also help them get younger
Brick machine
If he hasn’t to this point, I doubt it’s going to happen.
But that’s okay. If he just gets back to hitting his threes, he’s more than worth the vet min.
Bucks needed another wing who can create his own shot. I was hoping they would trade for Sexton but Beasley on a minimum contract is even better. He should add another scorer to their second unit and potentially even close out games.
Bucks not messing around. Depth is the name of the gm in playoffs. Players will come and ring chase for a yr or two. Good move. Bucks team to beat …… just stay healthy
Depth matters much less in the playoffs and Malik didnt play in the playoffs for LAL in 2 and 3 round
You have to get to playoffs. You might look that up. Every yr the playoffs produce new contributors. So depth in the NBA. Is what separates the good teams. We talking 10 players
Nuggets played 7,5 players in the playoffs, look that up.
Bucks silently building out some alright depth.
Lost Carter cause they couldn’t afford to keep him but brought back Crowder, reunited with Robin Lopez and now Malik Beasley has joined up too. Still have Connaughton and Portis obviously.
Probably need another PG, either Kendrick Nunn or Aaron Holiday wouldn’t be a bad pick up otherwise I think they go the veteran/locker room route with a George Hill or Goran Dragic.
Why would the Bucks want Hill back? They had to pay the Pacers to take him his contract last year so they could get cap space.
That was to clear cap space now it would be for the min ….
Didn’t Dragic basically retire? Hill should. If they sign him again he’ll miss half the season (and Bud isn’t there to insist he gets regular minutes when “healthy”…
Remember when no one wanted Portis? We bought low on him and he paid off. Not saying he’s like Portis but who knows. Could be a major part of the bench or a $2 million bench warmer. Dudes only 26. Good luck
Solid depth signing
