JULY 10: The signing is official, according to a team press release.
JULY 2: The Nets are signing free agent swingman Lonnie Walker on a one-year contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets.
The Lakers were interested in re-signing Walker but he could find more playing time in Brooklyn. Walker made $6,479,000 in his one season with the Lakers and he became an unrestricted free agent after the season.
The 24-year-old Walker, who played four seasons with San Antonio, appeared in 56 regular-season games (32 starts) with the Lakers. He averaged 11.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 23.2 minutes. He also appeared in 13 postseason contests, averaging 6.2 points in 13.8 minutes.
How exactly Walker slots into Brooklyn’s rotation remains to be seen. The Nets have a glut of wings, so the addition of Walker could signal some other moves.
The team has also parted ways with Patty Mills and Joe Harris this offseason, so there could be a path to minutes even without further roster shuffling, though fellow newcomer Dennis Smith Jr. also figures to have a role in the backcourt.
Lonnie is a class act.
Hope he continues to improve and become a starter soon.
Will forever be remembered by LAL fans for his heroic 4th quarter.
He was right leaving La, even if its for (less money) we coulda offered like 4 mill max to just slide under apron 2 with some future (minor) wiggle – *Beasley can still take the deal tho
Wasn’t going to be the pt available he needs in LA
Im going to assume this is 5 mill or below which is a great deal for Brk
Wasn’t for Walker they lose to the Warriors in one of the games and the series goes to a game 7. Lakers may think they improved but will miss walker and his instant energy off the bench. Nets are smart he is a good player they can trade later on for draft picks.
You are correct in your series assessment w Lonnie Arc
You get 15 roster spots tho my dude, and a lotta teams (Lal) only use 14
There’s a lotta talent in the Nba, Lakers fans wish him well, we will not forget when he carved you up my friend, good times
Lonnie is talented but is very inconsistent. I hope he figures it out. He needs to improve playmaking a lot as well.
I would of thought he would of got more than 1 year and no details on money yet…
How Brooks and Bridges got deals well above what they deserve and Walker got shafted I just don’t understand…
Seems like a great deal for the Nets. Walker is an explosive athlete and talent.
Walker is a real talent on the offensive end. But he has a great ability to find his way back to the bench when I’m not looking. Apparently, he doesn’t defend so well.
Still, I like this signing for BKN. The only downside is he might take time away from 2k legend Cam Thomas (Walker certainly won’t lose time to Cam based on defense). No worries though. Based on the trades proposed on this site, it appears BKN could deal Cam at any time for a bundle of assets.
He defends ok. He is pg size with zero playmaking. Very explosive. Inconsistent on effort.
Not OK with me, and I’m not a BKN fan. He’s explosive with the ball, but he lacks lateral movement, length, BB IQ and energy for anything but his own shooting. He fails the Teammate Anger Test for his defense. Guys like Bridges, DFS and Johnson are as much the reason he doesn’t play much as the HC.
I like Cam. I wish they would teach him to handle the point more. This is a solid pickup for Nets. Seems like they are getting their bench in order. Thing about Nets ……..
We are all waiting to see what happens with Ben.
PG – Dinwiddie, SG – BrooklynBridges
SF – Cam, PF – Ben, C – Claxton
What they lack is true big. A real Center. Gotta get one.
Three team trade. Memphis trades Adams and kennard to Phoenix. Phoenix trades Ayton and Wainwright to Nets. Nets trade Claxton, DFS and Royce O’Neil to Memphis.
