JULY 21: Harper’s two-way contract is official, per NBA.com’s transaction log.
JULY 20: The Raptors are re-signing free agent power forward Ron Harper Jr. to his second two-way contract with the team, his Roc Nation agent Drew Gross informs Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link).
Harper initially joined the Raptors on a two-way deal last summer after going undrafted out of Rutgers. The 6’6″ Harper appeared in just nine contests for Toronto, averaging 2.2 points and 0.8 rebounds a night.
The 23-year-old made a bigger impact with Toronto’s NBAGL affiliate, the Raptors 905, averaging 16.7 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 4.0 APG, 1.2 BPG and 1.0 SPG in his 30 games with the club, including 27 starts.
While at Rutgers, Harper, son of five-time champion guard Ron Harper Sr., was a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, and an Associated Press All-American honorable mention.
Harper’s solid final games with the Raptors 905 in 2022/23 helped him earn an additional two-way opportunity with Toronto for the 2023/24 season, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca tweets. Harper will be the second player signed to a two-way contract by the Raptors, joining rookie guard Markquis Nowell. The team also still has a two-way qualifying offer out to guard Jeff Dowtin.
5.1 PG. Rebounds? He is 6’6 maybe. He should be playing SG not PF
What happened to Markuis Nowell’s two-way deal?
They can have three players on two-ways.
I believe Alex made an error on his write up. Nowell is inked on a 2 way deal. Harper will be the 2nd 2 way slot when he signs. Currently, Jeff Dowtin is a restricted free agent and was given a 2 way QO but has not signed that. it’s possible he could, but he could also sign on a standard contract with another team too.
RHJ was tremendous for RU. His half court trey at the buzzer a few years ago to stun a previously undefeated and #1 ranked Purdue at the RAC was legendary. I remember that someone edited Purdue basketball’s Wikipedia page at the time to read: “Purdue Boilermakers are owned by Ron Harper, Jr.
The only true RJH in TO is Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
College was that much fun for you huh?
The NCAA isn’t preparing these players well enough with that different style of basketball…
Lots of bad habits are groomed in the NCAA that can take years to iron out..
Where’s all the local toronto media guys like lewenberg and doug smith who were crying about dowtin last year and how the Raps didn’t do right by him…
…crickets!!!
We let Banton walk too. He was protected because of his TO roots
We discovered we don’t have elite PGs, we let another decent one walk and signed a worse offensive yet better defensive guy instead
Feels like Scottie is going to be a PG/SF/PF/C Pascal is going to be a PG/SF/PF/C OG is going to be a PG/SG/SF/C
Schroeder will be the 6th man to rest one of those 3 depending on match-up
The “big 3” will rotate through C when Poertl is off the floor.
Trent will be spotting up from 3 more often than not and only get mid ranges with 6 seconds on the shot clock
Otto Porter JR should be healthy.
Dick looks like he can shoot.
Precious is decent but probably only gets 15 minutes a night
Rest is just filler
Championship team? No.
Make the playoffs,probably.
I trust in Webster and Ujiri. If any big trade goes down, you won’t hear or see it coming.
Dame will only be coming for cheap if it happens.
Kat could replace Siakam but that’s an all in move
Embiid would take too much off the roster and wouldn’t make sense seeing TO and Philly are rivals.
Harden could probably be had for cheap regardless if hes 76er ,he solves the late game scoring and the 3pt issue. Harden gets more 3pt foul shots than the Raptors even take 3pt shots in a season. But could only be on the floor with the “big 3” to cover his Defensive liabilities
Demar could come back for cheap and increase late game scoring from mid range. Same issue with the Defensive liabilities.
Heck I wouldn’t even be surprised if TO is in 5th a dozen games over 500 and the Lakers are a dozen under, and LBJ gets traded to Lebronto for a sympathy chip
Stranger things have happened. FVV shut down Curry and received a finals MVP vote. Klay and Durant hurt in the same run. No victorious return of Durant to help overcome the Raptors even though we BOO’D him after he tore his Achilles. The story wrote itself
But truth is Stranger than Fiction
Actually KAT to TO Is where I can see him blossom, next to Scottie, Siakam.
Give OG, Otto Porter and three firsts, or OG, Portee, Boucher AND 2 unprotected ir lightly protected first.
I like:
PG – Schroder
SG- Trent
SF – Barnes
PF – Siakam
C – KAT
Poeltl, Achuiwa, a scoring off-guard (Quickley, Coby White, Bones, Shake Milton, Jaylen Nowell), a veteran, heady PG (I like Tyus Jones, ir Delon Wright), AND great veterans like Thad Young, Danny Green AND Cory Joseph (former Raptor).
Cut the positionless basketball AND build an actual team that Is a championship contender. They have the assets.
