The Raptors are among the teams that have conveyed “exploratory” interest in Heat guard Tyler Herro as part of the multi-team trade discussions involving the Trail Blazers and Damian Lillard, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Toronto lost Fred VanVleet in free agency, and lottery pick Gradey Dick is just 19 years old and may not be ready for a significant rotation role as a rookie, so it makes sense that the team would be on the lookout for another backcourt player who can make outside shots.
The Raptors’ 33.5% three-point percentage last season ranked 28th in the NBA. The club also possesses the sort of expiring contracts that might appeal more to the Blazers in a Lillard trade than Herro’s four-year deal would.
Here’s more on the Raptors:
- Given how frequently the Hawks have been frequently linked to Pascal Siakam this offseason, rival executives are curious about how Atlanta might build an offer for the Raptors forward, Scotto says. Dejounte Murray and Bogdan Bogdanovic are currently ineligible to be traded due to recently signed extensions, and Clint Capela likely wouldn’t appeal to a Toronto team that just re-signed Jakob Poeltl. It’s unclear if a package centered around De’Andre Hunter would be strong enough for the Raptors, Scotto notes, especially since the Hawks have limited draft capital to offer after having already traded away multiple future first-round picks.
- Although the Magic have been rumored as a possible suitor for Siakam, a league source who spoke to Scotto believes that’s more “noise than substance,” since Orlando has Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner locked into the forward spots and wouldn’t be inclined to move either player.
- There was some skepticism among league personnel at the Las Vegas Summer League that the Raptors will ultimately trade Siakam, according to Scotto. “Toronto always does the same thing,” one scout told HoopsHype. “They dangle their guys, and then they pull them back.”
- The Raptors are mulling the possibility of adding another point guard in free agency, per Scotto. The team signed Dennis Schröder, who will presumably replace VanVleet in the starting lineup, but doesn’t have a reliable backup at that spot.
Atl trades DeAndre Hunter, Onyeka Okongwu, Patty Mills plus Atl’s 24 1st or Atl’s 2030 1st to
Toronto for Pascal Siakam… 2 young starters plus an unprotected 1st. Can Indiana beat that?
We could also do Dre, AJ Griffin, Patty plus our 24 1st for Pascal. I think they remember AJ.. link to m.youtube.com
Siakam has more value than that even in his walk year and his promise NOT to resign with any team that trades for him.
Except he really doesn’t. He might be the man in Canada but he’s not a star.
You clearly don’t watch Raptors basketball. Siakim may not be a number one option on a championship level team. But he’s definitely a star player and number two option. Dude can score and is a solid defender at four positions. He’s a top 50 talent in the league easily.
He’s definitely a star. That’s why it would take 2 young starters plus an unprotected 1st to get him
Laughable. 2x All NBA, 2x All-Star, 2018-19 Most Improved Player, 2022-23 stat line in so remarkable it’s only been achieved by a handful of others… Oh, and 2019 NBA champion and generally considered the second best player on the team at that time!
Sounds like a STAR to me! If the US market would cover the Raptors as much as the other teams…
that’s a garbage offer. not even close to interesting from a Raptor point of view.
I feel like you are heavily underrating Dre, Onyeka & AJ Griffin
Why would Herro be the problem with a Portland deal?
He’s a tradable asset at any point for the Blazers…
Maybe he isn’t in the timeline exactly, but Robinson, or Lowry, and 2 late 1st’s is where the value falls off a cliff.
Blazers GM needs to stabilize his job by 2026.
The best idea would be 4 first round picks between 2023 and 2026.
Both Herro and Lowry are overpaid. Third team is absolutely needed to improve the Blazers
2 qualified playes example
OG and Scottie Barnes
Go Blazers future
change ur name to SILLYvan. Barnes no way. OG and draft picks and Gradey Dick this years 13th overall would be reasonable.
When you look at what Miami has to offer it’s putrid. Nothing of value. Portland needs to move on.
Again for the millionth time, Portland has Scoot, Sharpe and Simons. There’s absolutely no reason to bring in another guard to take away minutes from those three and there development.
You get the best deal now and if it includes Herro, then the Heat can find that deal with a 3rd or 4th team that satisfies Portland. The Blazers are under no obligation to get this deal done.
I like it
Raptors get Herro
Raptors are unlikely to offer much
It needs 4th and 5th team
6 teams deal would be even better
Why?
Everyone offers a little extra
At the end of the day I hope Lillard stays if it isn’t a trade for a PF, FC, C, or quality draft assets.
It has to be Trey for Pascal, right? ATL doesn’t have picks, Murray is ineligible to be traded, Okongwu, Griffin, Bey, Bufkin, Hunter are just quarters at most, and you never wanna trade a dollar for four quarters in the NBA
Nothing of substance is coming out of Vegas this year. People are just talking for the sake of it because there is not much to do at the Mack.
Any so called writing is of the safe don’t say anything outside box type until national camp opens up in early August.
We won’t find out they really think before then as always.
Raptors are not the only team over pricing their players in trade. 76ers want a high price on Harden. Portland getting low balled on offers for their big star. Some GMs just think because one team makes a over pay trade they can get a favorable trade their way.
That is a gross team three point percentage, Masai building an awesome team for 2003.
So Toronto is interested in Herro, but not Simons, which furthers my point that Simons is the issue
I dont know why people keep making these claims about Lowry’s contract, as though it isnt expiring especially lol…like we didnt just see Chris Paul in a trade for Beal
MORE is the problem anyway you analayze this, or excuse the drawn-out delay.
The T-Wolves screwed up the whole trade market last year, which is why you don’t see much coming out of LV, or out of the trade market in general.
Siakim is a good case in point. He’s a very good all around player, and is a better fit into more lineups than Gobert is. Two years ago Siakim would have gone for a good young player, an expiring contract and maybe two firsts. Now, the Raps can demand an extra good young player, another 1st and maybe a pick swap as well. Unless you truly believe that Siakim takes you from fringe contender to championship favourite, it’s difficult to commit that kind of return for him.
It’s going to take another 1-2 years of less star trade activity before the market cools down a bit.
I think the Dejounte Murray trade did as much damage because he’s not going to make a difference to most teams. Got 2 unprotected picks for him and a pick swap.
Gobert was at least an unquestionably great player at his position when he was traded. I’m not even sure if Murray is good.
Whenever I read this shade being thrown around about raptors it’s always anonymous “league personnel”. I call bs. Either put names behind who’s saying the Raps always dangle their players or just stop making stuff up. We know these agents and gms use the media guys to spin their narratives but there should be some accurate writing on this site about it. Gets so old and yet never stops. Either name names or stfu
I doubt the Raptors move Siakam. They are overpricing their players like they always do. OG and Barnes play the same position. So it’s probably OG who gets moved. If they ever drop their ridiculous asking price for him. What they really need is a future PG. A young solid PG who can start. That makes them a true contender for East. Schroeder would just be depth, solid depth.
OG does not fit in NY. Unless we move RJ. So why change just for change. RJ needs to be more consistent on offense and defense. He just turned 23. So I’d say the time is now for RJ. This is the year he shows who he really is and is going to be. Judgment time has arrived imo.
So it’s been Herro holding up this trade ??
I get trying to get more out Heat. But it helps no one stalling. Blazers need to move on. No other team is trading for Dame. Jovic, Jaquez, Herro, Lowry plus two picks is a solid offer. Blazers can rebuild in a hurry. Imo they should be finding a taker for Herro.
Herro’s agent should be finding a trade for him. Move on already …….. this
waiting is BORING …………. Toronto is not a bad place for Herro. He can start at the 2. And he brings shooting and scoring. Both things Raptors need. They can even use OG here and get more than just Herro.
Siakam to Philadelphia for Harden, Lliard to Miami for Herro, Herro then traded to Philadelphia for Harris. Harris to Portland.
Won’t happen but one can wish. I’ll pull it off on 2k I’m sure lol.
