The Sixers have signed draft-and-stash prospect Filip Petrusev, the team announced (via Twitter). Terms haven’t been released, but it will be a standard contract rather than a two-way deal, tweets Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Philadelphia selected the 6’11” center with the 50th pick in the 2021 NBA draft. He made a positive impression during Summer League after spending the last two years playing for teams in Turkey and Serbia.
Petrusev, 23, was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year with Gonzaga in 2020 and earned second-team All-American honors from the NABC. He was a member of the EuroLeague champions in 2022 and the Serbian League and Serbian Cup winners this year.
Petrusev is the latest backup center to be added to a Sixers team that recently signed Mohamed Bamba, matched an offer sheet for Paul Reed and is expected to re-sign Montrezl Harrell. Once the deal with Harrell becomes official, Philadelphia will have 14 players with standard contracts.
Trade filler?
I think he can play some PF alongside with Embiid
I’m guessing Nurse views Reed as strictly a four moving forward. Hopefully he can stretch the floor with more efficiency. It will be interesting to see what Petrusev can bring to the table too. His college and international numbers show some range, but in very limited shots per game
So from what I’ve heard they think Reed will see minutes at the 3 because he played that in like HS or college sometimes??? This roster construction is bunk. Needs to be some other moves to make sense.
Embiid + 30 centers
Filip, Tobias, PJ
House and Furkan
Harden, Melton and Springer
Maxey PatBev
Joel Embiid out here making comments about how bad he wants a shot at a title in Philly, or “Someplace Else”.
Seems like things are lining up for a last stand with Embiid in Philly. Tobias Harris last year of contract. Harden now on an expiring contract.
I know Philly don’t want to see this guy on the Knicks, but …… They got the assets to do it.
The musings of a desperate Knicks fan.
NBA fan … Not a fan of Knicks or any other team. Just stating the current conditions in Philly.
Morey has done nothing to improve the sixers in the 2 1/2 years he has been in Philly. PB as back up PG, and then signed a bunch of backup C.
Wrong. You know absolutely nothing about the game or building a team. Take that philly off, you shame it.
What is exactly has Philly done??? Milwaukee, Boston, Miami, New York, Cleveland …. ALL are currently better than Philly.
Miami is currently a play in team. What are you talking about. They lost vincent and strus, and dumped oladipo. They are praying they get lillard, but if we are talking current rosters, Miami is in some serious trouble. New York, please. The Sixers have been running circles around them for a decade. They have no one that can play with Embiid and he will beat them by himself. Cleveland has gotten much better the past few years, they might pass the Sixers this year but this is currently the same Sixers squad that was better than them last year. Harden is still a sixer. Until that changes, it’s tough to say the Sixers aren’t good. They’ve been a top 4 seed consistently with Ben Simmons as the #2, lets not forget that
Let’s finish the offseason first before we go making death sentences for a team. They were 5 min from being in conference finals last year in game six. Isn’t Morey fault that Harden quit and the coach didn’t force them to get their best player the ball late in that game. I agree this offseason has been strange but the season doesn’t start tomorrow.
In a way it is Morey’s fault with Harden …. Morey is the whole reason why Harden is there!
Time out. As much as this situation with Harden is disappointing, you have to admit it’s much better than still having Ben Simmons who is nearly a total loss at this point.
Nothing? He likely improved the Sixers big time this offseason by firing Doc and hiring Nurse.
Toronto fans would have a different opinion of Nick Nurse.
Don’t be surprised if some primary ball handling duties comes his way. As always with euros their footwork is superior to ours and can for the most part separate with relative ease from just about anyone.
He is also stronger than he appears.
