Christian Wood and Dario Saric are two of the top unrestricted free agents who have yet to find new teams. There’s a good reason for that, according to Marc Stein at Substack: Both big men have only received contract offers for the veteran’s minimum thus far and are presumably looking for more money.
Stein says Saric will likely land with the Warriors if he’s unable to find a higher-paying offer. The Croatian big man is reportedly Golden State’s top remaining target.
Here’s more from Stein:
- The Magic released Bol Bol on Tuesday and he cleared the waiver wire despite having a relatively modest $2.2MM salary. The Suns have a “level of interest” in the 7’2″ big man, according to Stein. John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM said on Thursday (via Twitter) that he believed Phoenix might “take a hard look” at potentially signing Bol. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported when Bol was waived that the Suns contemplated trading for him on the night of last month’s draft.
- The Mavericks aren’t done reshaping their roster this offseason, Stein reports. Dallas is expected to trade Tim Hardaway Jr. at some point, with JaVale McGee another candidate to be on the move, whether it’s via trade or being waived. Stein also hears Theo Pinson‘s time with the Mavs is likely over. The veteran guard remains an unrestricted free agent.
- The Pelicans are just above the luxury tax threshold and have reportedly been active in trade talks for weeks. Like Fischer, Stein hears New Orleans is shopping guard Kira Lewis Jr. and center Jonas Valanciunas, with Lewis’ name surfacing more frequently in recent days. The Pelicans also unsuccessfully attempted to pry Jarrett Allen away from the Cavaliers, according to Stein.
- There hasn’t been much buzz about possible offer sheets for restricted free agent Paul Reed, but Stein writes that the Jazz are worth monitoring. However, the Sixers are reportedly keen on retaining Reed, so it’s unclear if that might work out for Utah. The Jazz also already have several frontcourt players, so Reed would be a bit of an odd fit from a roster standpoint.
Forget stupid Saric, pick up Bol Bol or other players who want to be a Warriors
Idk, I think Saric is a much better fit for the Warriors.
Bol Bol doesn’t really seem to fit their style of bigs they typically go after, and they’ve pretty much let everyone know they have zero interest in allowing any of their bigs learn on the fly. If so, I’d imagine they probably would have just kept Wiseman.
Personally, I think it is a mistake by Golden State, but that’s just me.
Hard to defend a title a develop a big man at the same time. They take a lot longer than Guards.
Then why get him in the first place??
That is why it frustrated the heck out of me. I’m a Kerr and Warriors fan, but it is difficult to find the logic in drafting Wiseman if you aren’t going to take the time to develop him properly, or even use him correctly.
Idk, it just seems like Kerr is stuck on his system, and what has worked for him in the past.
While that did get him to the top, he needs to be more flexible, and cater his schemes around his new and younger players a little more to help them develop.
It just seems like if they don’t fit into his specific role that he wants of them, then he quickly moves on and brings in a much less talented role veteran that does fit his specific role.
Thats great while you have two of the best all-time shooters in their prime, good team defense, and an extremely versatile 2-way big in Draymond, but they’re getting older and they basically wasted three top picks not developing them properly.
If Kerr doesn’t learn to adjust his scheme more, either he’ll be leaving when Steph, Klay, and Draymond retire in 3-4 years, or he’ll be having a very difficult time finding success once again unless he finds the perfect replacements for them..
Huh? What 3 wasted picks? They only used one pick on Wiseman. All bigs take time to develop. Kerr could not have forseen Covid, Wiseman’s knee injury, etc…If Poole hadn’t been so selfish, Wiseman might still be with the Warriors.
It’s hard to develop James Wiseman when he was on the Shelf most of his time here with the Warriors. Makes things real difficult.
Again, why not Wood AND Saric? Both are a great fit and replace J-Mike and Wiseman. They better somehow get Paul Reed or flip CP3 for a big whos a better fit on GSW
Wood is a horrific defender. Green would be in his face every day due to his lack of hustle. There is a reason why someone who scores 16+ points a game is only getting offers for the minimum. He’s a detriment when he’s on the court.
Reed and Wood are to short for the Warriors. They might as well be PGs. CP3 is going nowhere. The Warriors want to win.
@Giants74 literally all 3 sentences here contradict themselves, you ok buddy? CP3 has no rings and isnt a winner.
Now, they really need CP3 to help run their second unit, and to be a floor general when Steph is off the court.
They acquired him for a reason, they certainly aren’t letting him go for a backup center.
That’s especially when Kerr’s type of Centers he uses are extremely easy to find for cheap. If they really wanted some more insurance and a backup 5 they could just pickup McGee again for the vet minimum when he’s released or waived.
GSW traded a young elite starting center for a backup SG, but youre saying they wont do it the other way around?
I agree they do need a backup PG for Steph, but Pauls contract is going to make a team want to flip a whole bunch more back for him just to get out of other deals.
Lets wait and see if CP3 is a clubhouse cancer before deciding he’s a fit here.
Lakers would actually be a really good landing spot for Christian Wood
Can be listed as the starting centre with AD the power forward if that makes both of them happy. When in reality it’ll be Wood PF and AD centre. Anyways to his game, He can space the floor, score in the mid range or inside. He also rebounds the ball well. He isn’t great defensively but he gives you a good 18 points per night and 10 boards. He doesn’t get in foul trouble and has also proved himself handy off the bench. Lakers need scorers and guys that can space the floor.
Dlo Reaves Bron AD Wood
Vincent Reddish Prince Hachimura Vanderbilt
JHS Christie Lewis and Hayes
Come the deadline I’d predict this side would be around the 8th seed and probably looking desperately to add another big name or do some kinda trade once again. When trying to make a deal guys like Dlo Hachimura Vincent will have the money contracts, Wood and Vanderbilt will be cheap sweaters on expiring deals.
Wood is terrible defense player
And, what’s your point? How many players in the league are actually good defenders, less than 20? Dray and Looney are two of the best, so stagger their minutes so one is on the court with Wood.
That’s fine who did the lakers have last season next to Bron and AD?
Thomas Bryant did a bit, W. Gabriel, and in the end they called up Tristan Thompson.
In the end they had to play small using Hachimura and Vanderbilt but both guys didn’t exactly help lead them to success.
Wood gives them another quality big and as for his lack of defence you have guys like AD and Vanderbilt to pair him with
Anthony Davis and Christian Wood are redundant offensively. They like the high post, shooting jumpers, and don’t like getting banged up underneath a whole lot.
Disagree, look at how good Boogie and AD were together in NO before injuries derailed that. Both guys can score from 3, in the mid range and down low.
Good points !!
Who would want Tim Hardaway Jr?
He’s 31. He has 2 years 33M left. He has a 15% trade kicker. In a market where you can sign superior players like Seth Curry for 4.8M, THJ is a terrible contract.
Teams could sign Will Barton and Terrence Ross, two equivalent players to THJ, for the minimum. Given that, I would expect THJ to cost a first to move like Richaun Holmes.
Hawks should pickup Wood to replace Collins. Wood can rotate in at the 4 as a compliment alongside Okongwu and Capella, and he can split time with Johnson and sometimes Hunter at the 4, when he’s not at the 3 on the court.
I know they won’t, because they’ve been in desperate cost cutting mode, but it could be a pretty nice fit for both parties.
Young
Murray
Bey
Hunter
Capella
Then, they could mix and match with their group of wings between Bogey, J.Johnson, Gay, and Griffin, and then mix in their combo of big guys depending on match-ups switching between Wood, Capella, and Okongwu.
Ultimately, idk really how far the Hawks could get, with their ceiling likely resulting in a tough out in the 1st Round, but if their rotation of 11 is clicking on all cylinders Trae and Murray could at least get them a series W coming out of the #5 or #6 spot in the East.
Quality guard play, good team defense, and solid two-way, versatile wings are how you typically get far in today’s NBA, and with one of the most talented back courts, and with their deep group of versatile and athletic wings the Hawks could make some noise…
If Trae is hot, and the Hawks can finish the season off strong, I certainly wouldn’t want to be the Knicks, Miami, or the 76ers and run into the Hawks in the 1st Round.
To me, on paper, they look extremely versatile and athletic. If Trae can finally take that next step and become more consistent, the Hawks just might be a team to keep an eye on. That’s despite their management doing their best to cut payroll and giving away Huerter and Collins…
I’m guessing part of the reason Bol Bol cleared waivers is that, although his salary was quite low, it was beyond the minimum salary exception so teams would’ve had to use room or other exceptions. This way the NBA will cover anything beyond $2,019,706.
Let Wood backup Nic Claxton, would be perfect for the Nets
Rumor is that Bol Bol will try to reinvent himself
First, he is changing his first name to BASKET !!
Double sign and trade wood for oubre
