JULY 12: Saric is officially a Warrior, the team announced (via Twitter).
JULY 8: The Warriors and free agent forward Dario Saric have reached an agreement on a one-year contract, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
While Wojnarowski doesn’t specify the financial terms, the Warriors’ cap situation means they’re limited to minimum-salary offers for free agents who weren’t with the team last season. As a seven-year veteran, Saric will earn $2,709,849 on a minimum deal, while Golden State will take on a cap hit of $2,019,706.
Saric missed the entire 2021/22 season due to an ACL tear, but returned to action this past season. He appeared in 37 contests for Phoenix and – following a trade-deadline deal – 20 for Oklahoma City, averaging 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game with a shooting line of .458/.391/.829.
A 6’10” forward who has made 36.0% of his career three-pointers, Saric is known for his ability to stretch the floor from the frontcourt. In Golden State, he may take on a role similar to the one JaMychal Green played this past year.
The Warriors were named by multiple reporters as Saric’s most likely landing spot in the hours leading up to free agency last week. Marc Stein indicated on Friday that the 29-year-old may have been waiting to see if offers worth more than the veteran’s minimum materialized before agreeing to join Golden State.
With Saric and Draymond Green set to officially sign contracts, the Warriors’ roster count is up to 13 players on standard contracts. That leaves two openings on the 15-man roster and three available two-way slots.
The club may just roll with 14 players on standard deals to open the 2023/24 season for financial and flexibility reasons. Lester Quinones is a good candidate to return in some form — he’s a restricted free agent after being issued a two-way qualifying offer.
At last the Warriors have added someone to their very depleted front court. I hope they sign another big man soon.
I guess you didn’t hear about the draft.
You mean the rim rocker rim protector !!
6’5” Brandin Podziemski ….. yeah huge
Will he even play this yr …. Wiseman wants to know
Seriously. You want to play this game. Seriously. You will lose every time. Clifford Ray thanks you for ignoring him.
hey! Clifford Ray saved that dolphin!
Or rolled off his finger tips said by Rick Barry
His name is Trayce Jackson-Davis…2nd round pick; 4 yr. starting C at IU; numerous Big Ten and First Team AA awards; et cetera. Question: are all Knick fanatics as jaded, cynical and silly as you (tho’ I “get” it: zero titles in 50 years (and counting)? Mebbe switch teams
Well it’s a start. Great considering their restrictions of luxury tax thresholds. One more ‘big’ to be added, plz!
I called this a week ago
Thank you, hero.
Six other websites have been talking about it for a few weeks. Including this one
A few weeks?
yep
Called it? If you’ve read any free agency news it’s been Saric to GS
dude so wanted to be the first! “called it”! not the crime of the century for sure
Nice! Now intertwine your fingers and shake your hands next to your left ear for 3 seconds..then, do the same near your right ear..do this, on both sides 4 times
Lol
Interested to see if the league investigates this as the Saric deal was leaked hours before free agency started.
If this is the deal they investigate, they need to fire whomever makes that decision. Same person with the PJ Tucker one last year and all the small deals. There are so many bigger FA signings that should be investigated.
I think there’s a big difference to Saric knowing he can only get a minimum offer from the Warriors and had time to feel out anyone else’s offer to be bigger than that.
What are you talking about? They have been able to talk to players for over a week now. All the reporting has been that Saric hadn’t agreed to anything. Practically everybody else has agreed to deals before Saric. Who said they agreed to a deal last week? Bizarre.
@trog
You dont know how this works and are only making yourself look stupid.
He is just a bitter Mavs fan. Since mavs moved up and stole Lively from warriors when Cuban found out they were after Lively maybe that can be a violation too. See how easy it is to make up violations. Saric waited so long because he wanted more money from other clubs but never got a bigger offer like Jock did from Houston and used the warriors.
Gives them floor spacing they needed. Jamychal Green shot the ball well for them though, but was a little redundant with Draymond and Kuminga in some ways, and I also dont think he defended the way he has in the past, although I do think he was still a fit if they had another spacer at the 4/3 last year
Really big to get him for nothing b/c he is still super skilled. Played really well for Phoenix at the 4/5 in 2021. I think he should unlock some things for Kuminga. This is a little different from what they had with Porter a couple of years ago, but I think there are a lot of interesting lineups they can go to, and Saric is a better defender than people realize. I guess they had Bjelica then, so it’s pretty much a better version of that
JaMychael Green was horrible the 2/3 of the season. Seriously very very bad. Fortunately he got it together the last third and started shooting pretty well and doing the things they needed. I think it was one Breakout game when he had 18 points or something.
But up until that point you almost couldn’t play him. Probably why he hasn’t signed yet. Not sure what you’re getting with him anymore.
Still want Bol Bol in case of a injury. Santos on a 2 way. That would solidify the big men.
Never understood the JG signing. He announced he wanted to play for the warriors and the warriors were so desperate for a veteran they just signed him? There was never once a word said about the warriors having interest in him. He was, as stated above, unplayable for practically the whole season, and took minutes from the young guys they should have been playing. Saric is at least a better fit, and is taller, for whatever that’s worth.
I’m available at minimum cost.
My best position is DNP !!
Filling the role of igoudala I see
YES !!!!!!! This is huge to add a skilled big man like this. Very underrated as a basketball player. Sure he’s not the shot blocker big man many would love to see but you can stick Dario in the game and your plus-minus dif will go up. This is huge especially considering who’s out there for minimum contracts. What a blessing.
They are gonna need him. The rookies they drafted are not ready to contribute at the NBA level.
@barry Podz has looked pretty good. He is scoring, playing defense, and grabbing rebounds. He had 11 in his last game. Santos is playing his way into a 2-way contract. TJD hasn’t suited up yet. So, it is way to early to say they won’t contribute on the NBA level this season.
@Very Barry
This is inherently a lie, they literally traded for Jackson-Davis because he was NBA-ready right now. Not sure about Podz but TJD is a hooper who is ready for rotations.
Gary, how does the 2way QO work re Quinones? And have you watched any GSW summerleague games. Santos has been impressive. If they get Quinones, who’s also played well, and Santos on 2 way deals, who should be the 3rd 2way contract in your opinion?
I think both Santos and Quinones are getting the 2-way spots, with GSW getting Christian Wood or any other big who’s out there who might not be an obvious target right now, especially if GSW decides to move on from CP3.
The question is what would serve Santos best. Playing back in Europe where he was or in Santa cruz? Whatever that decision is is what the Warriors will decide. But I would say their guard set up is already set and Santos is one year away.
When Klay Thompson’s contract expires and Chris Paul’s contract expires Santos can be plugged in for playing time and he should be ready for it. Just my opinion I don’t think he’ll be a 15th guy on a two-way. Sure looks good but perhaps one more year of 35 minutes a game back home would serve him well? Be interesting to see what the Warriors decide here.
I see such a clear path to CP3 being traded at the deadline if GSW are barely in the playoffs, but also keeping him if they are top 4 at the deadline. His salary makes his trade return possibilities endless, but GSW might shave even more money off by taking even less for him.
@claude Teams only get 2 2-way contracts. They could just sign Quinones to a full contract.
That’s what I thought but Luke wrote above that they get 3 2ways. I read in a previous article how the QO works. So I kinda understand how things are set up. So 74, what I’ve liked about Podz is his nose for the ball. He got 11 boards because he’s always in position for rebounds due to instincts. But shooting is off for now but he’ll get that going. Santos is the one that’s looked good on offense. He’s not a great rebounder though. Ball watching which is prevalent these days at all levels. Opposite of what Podz does. Anyway, Adams wrote that GSW will likely keep 15th spot open and have 3 2ways. BTW, every thing I’ve read about Wood is he’s a weak defender. I’ve never been a Paul fan but can’t wait to see how he helps GSW cuz he will. So since we’ve already added one formerly unlikable player might as well get Howard lol.
@claude I didn’t know they get 3 2-ways. It will be interesting to see how the use it.
74, please do me a favor and never, ever again, respond to a post from Asfanmarty8rings. I know it’s extremely difficult to do, and I have lost chunks from my tongue biting it, but as long as his vile bile is allowed on this site we’ll never see his demise. He needs an exorcism or a lobotomy, or both. And I promise if you and I ever disagree on something that I will never take his route.
He also brings out the worst in me. Hard not to respond to him, he makes all warriors fans look bad.
The new CBA added one more two-way slot. Teams can have up to three now.
thanks Luke
Love this, but really need one more big. Any big is better than playing Donte DiVincenzo vs Lebron and AD.
Would prefer to keep Quniones on a 2-way spot for now, having him around in case Paul gets flipped at the deadline for a better fit.
There is no way they are flipping Paul. The Warriors were the worst ball handling team in the NBA last year. Why do you want to give up your best ball handler, and best backup PG in a decade?
$$$$$$$
They traded for Paul to save $$$$$$$. He’s staying.
“The Warriors were the worst ball handling team in the NBA last year.”
Lies. They wouldnt have made the playoffs if that were true
“best backup PG in a decade”
LMAO!! The backup PG who hasnt won a thing his whole life and plays a style in the opposite way of Kerr’s lineups is an awful fit, but youre saying he’s the best player on the team while being a backup and you are just being an argument Andy here, so fine, go off on me in your poorly thought out, purely reaction reply guy and I won’t look at whatever stupidity you have reacted your way into. Your anti-my takes are pure nonsense at this point. Grow up.
Stop bending over backwards to argue with me. You are just making yourself look like a hater. I wish you no ill will, but you do not feel the same way towards me. Prove it if I’m wrong.
Paul is just like D’Angelo a few years ago, not destined to stay, will be used in another trade at some point this offseason/season
They are keeping a roster spot open for buy out later in the season.
Yes arc2 but also to save a gazillion dollars today. The first 3 months of the Season before the trading deadline the 15th man at a minimum contract was still cost 17 and a half gazillion dollars.
If he can hit %39+ of his 3’s again, they may change the Splash Bros. to the Super Dario Bros. ;)
You been waiting an awfully loonng time to post this?
Sign Bol Bol
Why wouldn’t Sixers offer him minimum ….
Suns too ….. Clippers too, Nuggets too.
I think they all did so. I’d be interested in hearing from Dario saric as to why the warriors. Perhaps they can offer the most playing time? But looking forward to his interview as to why the warriors.
I am so ready to rock with these groups of guys Lester Quinones is going to get the 14th or 15th spot if the Warriors sign someone with the 14th spot Lester would get the 14th spot and then if the Warriors do not like anymore players on the market Gui Satos would get the 15th spot otherwise 1 more free agent addition and Lester then the Warriors roster is set lets go
Okay, done deal, we’ll see you in October. Warriors roster set for now unless suddenly a very very good player gets released or bought out between now and then and is willing to sign for the minimum with the warriors.
They’ll keep that 15th spot open to save a little cash, or actually a lot of cash, and the 14th roster spot and I think will be a training camp battle to see who can beat out Lester. Should be quiet from here on out.
Starters probably…
Curry
Thompson
Wiggins
Green
Looney.
Backup guards
Chris Paul
Cory Joseph
Podski
Backup wings
Moses Moody
Gary Payton
Backup bigs
Dario saric
Jackson-Davis
Kuminga
Defensively these guys will be all over the floor. Payton guards point guards all the way up to small forwards. But offensively these would be the labels. At least this year. Kuminga hopefully will develop into a nice consistent shooting driving Wing player but as of now he’s more a backup power forward offensively skill-wise.
The new 23-24 death lineup of course will have the little General on the floor and probably Looney on the bench. I’m good with that because even though he’s 38 Chris Paul brings a lot of intensity and the rest of it, so should be good there. Go warriors !!
Dwight Howard, Bol Bol or Okafor would help
