AUGUST 22: The signing is official, according to a team press release.
AUGUST 21: Moses Brown has agreed to a partially guaranteed one-year contract with the Trail Blazers, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets.
Brown has turned into a journeyman in his NBA career, which began in 2019, and it’s come full circle with his return to Portland. He played his first nine games with the Trail Blazers during the 2019/20 campaign.
He has also had stints with Oklahoma City, Dallas, Cleveland, the Los Angeles Clippers and, most recently, Brooklyn. He appeared in two games with the Nets after signing a pair of 10-day contracts last season. Brown logged 34 games with the Clippers last season before they waived him in mid-February.
The 7’2” Brown has averaged 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 12.4 minutes during his 128 career games.
With only 12 other players on guaranteed deals, the Trail Blazers have ample room to add Brown. He has a chance to be the main backup behind center Jusuf Nurkic. He’ll battle John Butler, who was re-signed to a two-way deal, for minutes off the bench, unless the Blazers add another big man.
Holy Moses !!
Exhibit-10? Or just straight up 1-year?
A full year, partially guaranteed
Sounds like a high-end training camp deal.
Probably has a December, or January expiration, then it becomes fully guaranteed.
I like Moses, needs to muscle up, or add to his perimeter game to take the next step as a rotation player, or back-up. Good inside on defense, and rebounding. Slow as molasses.
I don’t expect him to be in Portland all season unless Nurkic is shipped out.
He’s not slow but he’s unlikely to develop a perimeter game. His game is rebounding post scoring and rim protection. Portland desperately needs a backup center who can fill in if Nurkic has to miss time.
Moses is one of the best young players who hasn’t had a real shot at playing time. He has looked good every chance he gets but always seems to be the expendable player. Given a real shot at minutes he may surprise the league and those who’ve given up on him so fast. After going undrafted in 2019 he has proven able. When he played for OKC he had a 21 point 23 rebound effort against the Celtics. He moves well for a 7’2” big man. Could end up as the starter sooner than expected. Playing with a true PG he should excel around the rim.
Wish Moses well. I hope his pick and roll D is improved so he can stick.
I’m not sure where you get your info but the kid’s defense has been spectacular everywhere he goes. He was excellent for my Cavaliers 2 seasons back. I’m still not sure why we let him go at the end of 2022. We could have used a banger like him a year later against the Knicks. Sad thing was we were victimized in that series by a guy we let go at the end of 2021. That was Isaiah Hartenstein. Brown is as good as Hartenstein if not better. Hartenstein is one of the league’s most productive backup Centers and Brown might be better. He just needs a team to take a shot at developing him. His per 36 minutes and per 100 possession numbers are off the charts. That’s on both sides of the ball. Pairing him with an aging bruiser like Nurkic and the Blazers might surprise some people. Especially if they can keep Lillard and get him to buy into staying. The Blazers probably should have traded their pick for a star. That said this proves they aren’t totally asleep at the wheel there in Portland.
One correction: John Butler is a 3, so as of right now the only player Moses would be battling is Ibou Badji.
Butler is a 4/5*
Portland Trail Blazers believe that Moses
will be able to part the
Willamette River and
lead the team to the Promised Land !!
He’s got the talent. So it makes you wonder. He should be working only on his rim protection and rebounding. Best way to get contract and mins. Any team can use that. I’m surprised he didn’t go play overseas for a few yrs. Keep at it !!!!
Better than Nurkic
