The Pistons are likely to make at least one more trade before the season commences, James Edwards III of The Athletic opines. Killian Hayes, a 2020 lottery pick, doesn’t have a clear path to a rotation spot and there’s no sense the Pistons are interested in signing him to a rookie scale extension. The front office could also look to move either Marvin Bagley or James Wiseman, as it’s unlikely both will have a rotation spot this upcoming season.
We have more from the Central Division:
- The prudent thing for the Bulls to do with DeMar DeRozan is to trade him at February’s deadline to a contender and get future assets, Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic writes in his latest mailbag. DeRozan, 34, is entering his walk year. However, Mayberry anticipates the Bulls will let the season play out and re-sign him, since the front office values continuity.
- While big-market franchises like the Lakers and Knicks have been mentioned as potential suitors for Giannis Antetokounmpo if the Bucks’ star ever demands or trade or hits free agency, Sean Deveney of Heavy.com found some execs who think his future destination could be a big surprise. They’ve speculated that teams like the Thunder, Spurs and Raptors could be dark-horses if Giannis becomes available. “I think you can’t rule out those kinds of teams,” one unnamed executive said.
- The Bucks have added guard TyTy Washington on a two-way contract. Get the details here.
Hayes and Bagley for McDermott, Birch and a second round pick or two…
Killian links up with another young Frenchman in Wemby. Playing with Welby and being coached by the likes of Tony Parker and Greg Poppovic might help unlock his game. Bagley on the other hand gives them a big athletic 4/5. He has real size whereas guys like Wemby and Collins don’t quite have that muscle. They don’t nessacarily need him with Sochan at the 4 spot too so he’d likely be competing with Bassey for a spot in the depth chart but he’s got potential and offers something they don’t really have.
Detroit on the other hand get a sharpshooter SF in McDermott. They lack SF options and shooters so that would be a good pick up for them. Birch is more of a filler and they also bank a pick or two. Cut Birch and then your fine
I like this idea.
Hayes is only just 22 and could have been drafted this year. It’s dumb to me to dump him for nothing, aka McDermott (on the same team as Joe Harris mind you). But I’m more for freeing Hayes than helping the Pistons, so I’d be down with the trade.
Downside is that Tre Jones just signed a new deal as a defensive pg with no shot. Hayes I think can develop a shot though, I liked hos new form before the hand injuries kept happening.
Hayes has potential just needs it to be unlocked and there’s no better setting than San Antonio. You’ve got a legendary head coach who plays an offence with a lot of ball movement with high IQ players. You’ve got Tony Parker working as a mentor who is also a French PG that was never a great shooter.
You’ve got another young French star in Wemby he could build a connection with.
All these things which point to San Antonio being a great spot for him.
Only thing which negates it is they have point guards in Jones Graham and Payne.
I don’t really like this as they’ve got Morris, Bojan, Harris. The lack for shooting on the wing isn’t as bad as I see it made out here. They need to improve the shooting at the 4/5 off the bench.
Team that makes some sense for Hayes is the Bulls. He fits that defensive facilitator role and wouldn’t have to force his offensive game. Just take what comes his way. He would allow the bulls to keep a 2nd unit of Caruso and White to balance out their rotation. I think he would be a solid piece and a low risk/cost player for the Bulls
Question is would these two teams that historically don’t do business together come to terms on a trade.
Wiseman please ….. to the Knicks.
DeM DeR ….. we’re waiting for you ….
missing piece.
I dont understand, why u so love with ddr. I like ddr,but knicks already have 2 ball dominat. Knicks need better bench.oubre and wood maybe. I like knicks since thib is their hc.
The Knicks have depth and two good primary players. The only real problem they have is that Randle isn’t good in the playoffs; he either forces up bad shots or dribbles the air out of the ball, or both, because opponents won’t let him attack the rim.
On the other hand, DeRozan does the opposite of help with that issue. He’s not great in the playoffs either.
I can’t see Giannis leaving the Bucks to go anywhere that didn’t have a legacy of trying to compete for a chip. Boston, LA, Spurs, (cough) Knicks, GSW. GswA would be interesting because he could carry Steph and Dray thru their later years.
Okc has so many assets and young pieces. They could be very enticing and create a longer championship window
He doesn’t want to go to LA or NY. He is pretty private. Doesn’t want all the cameras on his kids.
Pistons have no clear direction. That’s the problem. Figure out who to keep, trade the rest for assets, sign vets and make deadline deals.
They do, the direction was rebuilding and from that they have a bunch of solid young players.
They haven’t been able to carve out a set rotation or timeline moving forward yet but they clearly have some plans in place.
What they currently have is a bunch of really solid young dudes and I think this season is about trying to win and seeing how they all play into that. Not that they will win a bunch but they will see who folds under pressure and who does well, who’s worth keeping and developing and what they need to do better.
They are doing better than some teams
I distinctly remember Giannis talking about the idea of playing in Chicago.
Exactly. This is the second article in 3 days and neither mentioned the Bulls. Weird that he’s supposedly looking to move on from Milwaukee, but they don’t talk about the team(s) HE might want to go to, only ones that would be interested in acquiring him. As has been said before, 29 other teams would be interested. And let’s not fool ourselves here, he’s only going where he wants to go, not whatever team that wants him or has the assets they believe MKE will take in return.
Well, the ongoing Dame saga would seem to discount your final point about assets.
He’s also not looking to leave Milwaukee. At least not yet. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.
What I meant re: assets is if 2 or 3 teams have similar packages that MKE might be interested in. Maybe 1 bumps up their offer to get the Bucks to pull the trigger, if not the trade would be to whichever team Giannis prefers.
The Dame thing is a known 1 horse race, whereas we don’t have a definitive destination for Giannis.
As for getting ahead of ourselves, aren’t we all just playing along with the rumor which by itself is just making stuff up at this point.
He’s looking to move on from Milwaukee?
He said NOTHING even remotely similar to that. 3 years before he’s set to become a FA, he said it didn’t make sense “numbers wise,” to sign an extension at this point, and that IF he does sign an extension, he needs to know everyone is as committed to winning as he is. That everyone is putting in extra hours away from their families working on their game and working toward a title.
It’s the same thing he’s said the ENTIRE time he’s been in Milwaukee(or at least the last ~7 years or so since he became one of the best in the league).
Bagley and Hayes to Atlanta for Bogdon and a 2nd
Bagley and Hayes to Dallas for Kleber and a 2nd
Dallas says no, they badly need Kleber’s defense and off-ball shooting, but the Atlanta idea could work. I’d think Detroit would rather go for a wing, though. They already have Harris for a 3pt shooter who is kinda meh on defense.
Bogdon is expiring contract and a second to get rid of their contracts and minutes. Harris and Bogdon off the bench while they trade the other Bogdon for draft picks and a bad contract. Start PG. Cunningham SG. Ivey SF. Thompson PF. Duren(start shooting 3s) C. Wiseman. Would Dallas trade Bagley and Hayes for Holmes and a second?
Duren has zero ability to shoot threes. Ever. He’s a Center, and he’s also not done growing. He’s already 6’10” and probably 6’11” when he’s done. He also has more pure athleticism than Robert Williams. Bam Adebayo vibes plus the potential of more growth is perfect for a modern C.
I would rather the Pistons trade Wiseman. Unless they’re willing to try and develop him and Duren at the same time, he’s not a fit for the roster.
Also, Stewart is a lock at PF for now. They have to see how that works for more than one weird year.
As for Bagley, maybe? But I don’t know that he’d be a good fit for the Mavs. His defense is still bad. It’d be cool to see a pick-and-roll with him and Luka, though.
I have been saying he should start shooting 3s, there was an article a month ago about him working on his outside shot. I believe he is 6’10 and more close to 6’9. Stewart is great as the first big of the bench. If Duren like you described, then yes trade Wiseman somewhere he can develop. I think Duren can be a PF. They need another all star young talent at SG or SF. Trade Bogdon, Bagley and Hayes for….. Bogdon, AJ Griffin and Patty Mills and a 1st
Wiseman for Wizards Gafford and a two 2nds
AJ Griffin to Detroit
Spurs should of signed TY TY Washington
Does anyone check Detroits roster prior to proposing these trades? We already have 2 aging 3’s, Harris and Bogdonavich. Why would they need a third?
I know every player ever. Bogdon will be traded this year. That was said earlier this year. They do need to make a trade or two. There starting lineup should be PG. Cunningham SG. Ivey SF. Thompson PF. Duren C. Wiseman. Trade Bogdon, Bagley and Hayes for draft picks and bad contracts. Draft Holland next year. Bogdon and Bogdon can play together for half a season.
Orlando for Carter Jr, Portland for ….vand Washington for Gafford would be a good place for Wiseman to go to develop if traded.
