The South Bay Lakers have promoted Dane Johnson to their head coaching position, according to a press release from the NBA G League team.
Johnson spent the last six seasons on the South Bay coaching staff, including one season as associate head coach (2022/23), four seasons as an assistant coach and one year as a coaching assistant.
“Dane has developed many coaching attributes over the last seven years with this organization,” South Bay Lakers team president Joey Buss said. “We are excited to see his growth in becoming our next head coach. He has a key understanding of our culture and goal of winning a championship while developing high-level talent for the NBA.”
The position opened up when Miles Simon departed the Lakers organization to become an assistant coach with the Suns.
We have more from the Los Angeles teams:
- Jordan Miller‘s two-way contract with the Clippers is for two years, Spotrac contributor Keith Smith tweets. Miller signed a two-way deal earlier this month. Miller, a Miami (Fla.) product, was the 48th overall pick of June’s draft.
- The Clippers are content to sit and watch how the James Harden–Sixers situation plays out, according to Law Murray of The Athletic. The same tradable contracts they have in a potential Harden deal aren’t going anywhere, though with training camp starting in seven weeks the Clippers will eventually reach a point where they no longer can be patient due to their “championship or bust” approach.
- The Lakers will open their in-season tournament schedule with the Suns on Nov. 10, Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic notes. For more info on the tournament, click here.
I can’t wait in 2 years for all the stories about how Harden can’t find anyone who wants to sign him and how he still wants one last chance to play in the league. It’s like he didn’t learn from the Carmelo Anthony stuff at all.
Long as Harden is producing he will find work somewhere in the nba. Teams won’t give him max level money but MLE, 10 mill, 20 mill. Teams will sign him if the price is right. Issue isn’t teams. Issue is hardens ego and will it accept what is offered.
Melo didn’t adjust his game. Harden adjusted from being a primary scorer to second or third option. Harden also led the league last year in assists,21 ppg, shot the 3 at 39%, and grabbed 6 reb.
Yea he did lead the league in assists. He has also forced 2 trades to new teams, and attempting a 3rd. What GM in his right mind is giving him a multi year deal or investing anything above the MLE? His biggest proponent, Morey, he just called a liar and said hed never play for him again. Nets offered him 200M and he turned it down. A year from now hell be 35, still has hamstring issues that sideline him every year. And he wasn’t content playing with Durant or Embiid. Who is he going to be content playing with?
League Min or China next year.
Harden has a contract with the 76ers. If he does not report to camp and play, do they have to pay them?
They can fine him. And if he doesn’t report hell be denied FA. He will report, hell go out daily to the strip club and hit that hot buffet bar hard.
In the process, he will be out of the league in a year. And he’s going to now get a negative narrative, may cost him HoF votes. Dude is a stooge. Ben Simmons, Harden, and some of these other disgruntled stars remind me of a Dane Cook joke about you’re at a 4 way stop, you’re nice and you’re waving the other person on, but after like e waves you turn into “F-ing Goooooo”. That’s the Sixers fan, were behind the player behind the player through all of their incessant BS until we snap and you’re dead to us.
