The Warriors are signing center Jayce Johnson to an Exhibit 10 contract, Shams Charania reports (Twitter link). Johnson spent the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League with the Warriors, averaging 5.6 points and 6.8 rebounds across those two events.
Johnson, a 7’0″ center out of Marquette, went undrafted in 2020. He spent a year in Romania and later joined the Santa Cruz Warriors for the 2022/23 season. Johnson averaged 8.6 points and 11.9 rebounds in 43 G League appearances, leading the G League in rebounds.
According to Charania, Johnson will compete for a two-way spot in Warriors training camp. Golden State currently has two open two-way contract spots, with Lester Quinones occupying one. Javan Johnson and Jerome Robinson are reportedly set to join the Warriors in training camp on Exhibit 10 deals, but those haven’t yet been made official.
If Johnson is waived by the Warriors, he will also be able to earn a bonus of up to $75K by re-joining the Santa Cruz Warriors and spending at least 60 days with that NBAGL club.
Well, at least he is not another Guard.
We have 18 Roster spots available to us. I think we can Invest at least 1 of them on a player taller than 6-10 Kevon Looney.
Been hoping for a Vet Big Man, as we have the Rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis. I just think its asking too much to ask TJD to fill-in with substantial Minutes in the event of a Draymond or Looney long-term abscence.
Have not heard if we have worked out Harry Giles already this week?
Haven’t heard whether it actually happened. Know he already worked out for ORL and he has a workout scheduled for the Knicks. The Nets scouted him in Vegas.
6’9 Looney*
Why do you have such a thing for 7 footers? Most aren’t worth a roster space. Giles is to fragile to get anything more than a 2-way contract. Saric is capable backup.
G74, I thought he looked good in SL. Yes it’s summer league, but he earned a shot. Pretty strong yet athletic and agile.
I have no problem with the Warriors signing Giles 2way contract. My problem is you keep focusing on his size. The Warriors were a better rebounding team then the Nuggets, Heat. Why sign a player to fulfill fictious need? Kevon Looney was kind of crap player. Don’t sign Giles and expect and World Championship.
I was referring to Johnson G74. I don’t know Giles.
They can be good but you all only want 3pt shots and no defense. Who won it for their team this year. Oh yeah a Center. We need the Center back, along with tall PF. Dribbling violations. Hand check rule. Get it done Silverware. SBA not NBA
Still get Giles… please
Giles is pretty fragile. Why sign him?
So is LeBrons ego so what
The Warriors fans who keep talking up Giles have no idea why other than that he is tall. If you were to ask them what he does well and more importantly how he would fit in the Warriors system, they would have no answer because they know nothing about him or basketball in general (i.e. they are typical bandwagon Warriors fans)
Guess you need to follow up more. Giles looks good… more mature and smarter
Giles, Johnson or keep looking. Hasheem Thabeet says he can help
Sign Johnson
11.9 rebounds and leading. 25 years old but at 6’11 and other experience. GS should sign Jayce Johnson
