The Knicks have touched base with Immanuel Quickley‘s representatives, but there have been no serious discussions on a rookie scale extension, according to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com.
While talks are expected to heat up in October, there’s some pessimism regarding an extension agreement, Deveney says. Without an extension, Quickley will be a restricted free agent next summer.
Quickley averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists and finished second for the Sixth Man of the Year award last season, but as Deveney points out, the Knicks have an abundance of guards.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Nick Nurse was one of the pioneers of load management during the Raptors’ championship season, when he limited Kawhi Leonard‘s playing time to keep him fresh for the postseason. With the NBA imposing new penalties for load management, Nurse will have to carefully navigate how much he tries to rest MVP Joel Embiid, as well as James Harden if Harden remains on the Sixers, Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes. Embiid has publicly acknowledged that proving his durability has been a personal goal, Mizell notes.
- Tyrese Maxey has already dramatically improved his shooting during his short NBA career. If he can do the same as a play-maker, then the Sixers can search for a third wheel to join him and Embiid, rather than finding another guard to run the show. That could make next year’s free agent class much more enticing, since the Sixers are positioned to have more cap space than any other team, Derek Bodner of Allphly.com writes.
- Could Jayson Tatum eventually carve out a space on the Celtics’ Mount Rushmore, as he openly expressed a desire to accomplish? Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston explores that topic, opining that Bill Russell, Larry Bird and John Havlicek would occupy the first three spots. Forsberg writes that delivering titles, and staying in Boston long-term, would boost Tatum’s candidacy.
I would certainly put Paul Pierce on the Celtics Mount Rushmore. Even still, he’s such an underappreciated player.
He may have not ever been the best player in the NBA during his tenure as a Celtic, but he was always one of the best and most respected players. His entire list of achievements is extremely impressive, and without him they never win that last title.
The Celtics obviously have a very long and rich history full of some really good players, but I think leaving Paul Pierce off the Celtics Mount Rushmore is complete and utter nonsense..
In 2002, he was arguably the best player. He led the league in scoring, and he got his team to the ECF with the worst supporting cast out of any Conference Final team, if not out of any playoff team
Paul won 1 ring, how is he better than Mchale or Bob Cousy?
Tatum won nothing. Very ambitious of him to target mount rushmore status with the most storied franchise in the NBA.
Gtfo out with this nonsense.
Cousy a great player, but show me one year where he was clearly the 2nd best player on any of those championship teams. Over hiensohn, sharman or Jones. And what he do without Russell? Couldn’t get past the 2nd Rd.
And I’m a big fan of McHale. His footwork is one of the best. But he is way overrated. He was a bench player most of his career and he was never the best player on his team, ever.
The fact is this, Pierce saved the Celtics franchise. If it wasn’t for him, the Celtics would have died by the end of the 90s and they would be an afterthought
I couldn’t agree more Kurtis.
Paul Pierce is a Boston Celtic legend, and he’s pretty much the entire reason they have a ring, and we’re even relevant for so long recently.
Garnett nor Allen would have NEVER even gone to the Celtics if it wasn’t for Paul Pierce.
Heck, it was his trade that even helped Boston re-tool their roster and remain competitive once again…lol He’s Dirk to Dallas, Tim Duncan to the Spurs, Kobe Bryant to the Lakers, Hakeem Olajuwon to the Rockets, Ewing to the Knicks, Chipper Jones to the Braves, Michael Irvin to the Cowboys, Ray Lewis to the Ravens, that franchises recent history is not the same without him, and the Celtics fanbase looks at Paul Pierce like someone from Greek mythology.
Yes, the Celtics might have had a better player in its long and illustrious history, but if you’re in your mid to late 20’s to early to mid 40’s Paul Pierce is that dude.
I mean let’s be real for a minute, Paul Pierce was able to overcome having Doc Rivers as a coach, and he even got him a title ring! That alone, should make him worthy enough for NBA immortality…lol
All jokes aside though, the man’s earned nickname was “The Truth.” That alone just speaks volumes to what everyone around him thought about him and the sheer amount of respect he earned from all his peers and competitors.
Paul Pierce was never the most athletically gifted player, but he was a master of his craft and played physically both offensively and defensively. Unlike the vast majority of scorers and big time players in the NBA these days.
A fiery competitor that gave it his all for the city of Boston each and every night he toed the line. Paul Pierce perfectly embodied what it meant to be a Boston Celtic, and I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in that franchises history that would disagree..
Load management could be very easy: you don’t put them in the starting five and only play them when needed.
Or place him in the starting five but bench him after 6 minutes, only bringing him back in the 2nd half…
Load management is another way of saying that the season too long. In past seasons champions played 1-2 fewer playoff series. No changes were made to regular season as postseason was made longer.
Not only that, being an iron man and coming to work everyday doesn’t gather the same respect and admiration it once did.
The majority of today’s players and stars no longer take pride in coming to work everyday and always doing their best to represent their city on their jersey.
Today’s NBA has just become WAAAY too player centric. Awhile back, almost every fan had a favorite team they followed with all their heart and passion. Now, most fans will tell you they don’t really have a favorite team, they just have favorite players.
There really aren’t even very many rivalries anymore. It’s actually rare to have a true rivalry made up of two teams that really hate or dislike eachother. Now, everyone is trading jerseys, giving handshakes, apologizing for hard fouls, and they’re largely mostly friends with eachother.
All of these things have played a large part in the softening of the league. Not to mention, the league’s obsession with scoring a bunch of points and wanting to have high octane offenses..
Sixers should trade for Fultz. Probably get him for a pick. He can come full circle and help the team. He was suppose to star for. Fultz is solid and plays good D. With Maxey they are a good D combo at guard. I think he would psyched to play there.
Fultz is 25, just peaking age.
Last yr – 29.6 mins, 14 pts, 4 reb, 6 ast
A #1 pick should get it done. You got more than that when you dumped him. Forget Harden. Take the Clipper deal. You will still have cap room next yr.
“Whenever the pressure was greatest, Sam was eager for the ball,” Russell wrote.Jan 5, 2022
Sam Jones goes ahead of Havlicek. He was the best 2way player of his time. And Celtics clutch guy during his 10 chip run. Never gets the credit he deserves. BALLER

I believe if Quickley gets an extension now. He can’t be traded. He’s the one most teams would want. He won’t get an extension till later. I’d move him now for right trade.
DeM DeR ………
Is Joko even on the radar today? He was so hyped when drafted. He played well in FIBA and seemed to be a NBA talent, but the Knicks seem to be guard rich.
“Pioneer of load management” sounds like a lot of supernatural baloney to me.
