The James Harden drama has been one of the big NBA stories this offseason and the latest scuttlebutt suggests it’s not going away any time soon.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that the Clippers, not Sixers, shut down trade talks this summer.
Harden has been disgruntled (even if Kyrie Irving doesn’t like that description) since the Sixers didn’t give him a lucrative extension. Harden opted out last summer in exchange for a lesser salary with a second-year player option.
Harden opted in before free agency this summer to secure that guaranteed money, then demanded a trade. Philadelphia set a high price with some combination of expiring contracts and draft picks. The Clippers were the only team that seemed mildly interested in trading for the 2018 MVP.
Harden has publicly called Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, one of the guard’s biggest supporters over the years, a liar.
Harden has incentive to report to training camp in a couple of weeks under the new CBA. He stands to lose his unrestricted free agent status for next summer if he holds out.
Morey has already seen how an unhappy Harden can disrupt a team. When Harden wanted to get out of Houston, he came to camp out of his shape and only appeared in eight games before he was traded to Brooklyn.
The Clippers could be posturing, waiting for the Sixers to cave and lower their demands. Or they could simply go with what they’ve got. They already have a point guard battle on their hands with Russell Westbrook, Terance Mann and Bones Hyland angling for playing time.
Windhorst indicated that the Clippers aren’t expected to pursue any trades before the regular season.
That leads us to today’s topic: In light of the latest developments, do you think Sixers will be able to trade James Harden prior to the season? If so, will he wind up with the Clippers or do you think he’ll go to another playoff contender?
Please take to the comments section to weigh in on this topic. We look forward to your input.
Honestly, who even cares?
Philly has a ceiling of the second round whether they keep him or they don’t.
Harden is gonna be hitting free agency at 35 years old next year. no ones gonna care then either.
Apparently you do enough to read the article and articulate a unintelligent and nonsense comment.
Yeah, apparently.
Man, I don’t know how you dealt with that sick burn.
Probably because he doesn’t care what people he doesn’t know thinks, I sure don’t
Trading for Harden should be a fireable offense for anyone in any front office. Should be retroactive to the past 4 years as well.
IF the Sixers would part with picks to unload him, it’d make sense for a rebuilding club. Given the Sixers’ ask though, I completely agree with you.
Should just take Clipper offer and move on. Harden is a team killer.
No thanks
I think Harden will get moved, but not to the Clippers. I think he wants out so badly that he will eventually add more teams to where he’ll go.
another entitled athlete who’d probably be working at a convenience store if not for sports. Have you ever listened to and actually paid attention to how athletes speak? most seem to have an IQ of a gnat. money doesn’t make you smart but it sure is fun to roll around naked in
Aww little Bradley is mad because mommy & daddy didn’t give him good enough genes to plays sports… WAHHHHHH!!!!
I’ve listened to a lot of athletes speak and as with anybody there are those that are more articulate than others. I wouldn’t say the percentage is higher or lower that any other group of people I’ve listened to.
However criticizing one’s speech comes off as hipocritical when the person doing the criticizing can’t be bothered with punctuation, or grammar when typing out their critique.
Harden is not uneducated. He’s just entitled. And only plays for the money and stardom. Never liked him. He has a lot of investments. He is very rich.
35 million a year would help you invest in anything
it is also hypocritical to point this out if you did not spell the word correctly.
He will not be traded until February because no one yet is desperate enough to want this jerk who is loved only by his media boosters
Na money ruined the game. When they are paid then they quit. They need to reciprocate the pay by paying them on their potential then if they do not do what they are paid to do then do not pay those max contracts. Save a lot of money plus bring the essence of basketball to life.
This would be a great plan for nba, but they’d need nonteam doctors to gage weather the injury is serious enough to play or not. Then if the player is just sitting when healthy enough to play they’d get docked that game check.
No trade. It’s hard to see any trade offer that makes the 76ers feel made whole. So no deal, everyone moping.
Is there any reason why they don’t just create a poll for articles like this?
What a hitjob this article is. Little sly shots at Harden, all over this thing. Aren’t y’all supposed to be objective when you’re reporting information?
Sly shots at Harden?
Just what has James Harden won?
Free wings at his favourite club?
“Just what has he won?” What does that matter? The post is about his current situation but, instead of being objective, the article is littered with opinionated shots. That’s hella tacky and amateurish. Report on the information objectively and let the people in the comments give their opinions of what was written.
So… Nothing…
Harden looked washed last year… He ain’t making any team in the NBA any better…
I don’t even know why you’re responding to me if this is the point you’re trying to make. But rock out.
Covington, Morris, plus a pick.
Is more than enough. Moreyon was asking for multiple #1 picks. Plus Mann. He’s diluted. I’d take it and walk away. Get ready for next for season. Sixers can pick up a guard later. Magic wanted a #1 pick for Fultz.
That’s a trade the lowly knickerbockers would make as one of if not the worst run organizations in league history. If memory serves me wasn’t the knickerbockers last legitimate superstar ahhhhhhhh
Covington and Morris don’t really push the needle for the Sixers. Really no reason not to hold out for more.
I’m a clippers fan but even if they added Norman Powell to the deal it’s factual trash ! There’s not a single team that would trade anything for that package ! Norm is a nice scorer but can’t defend or pass and Morris and roco are to old and washed up to help my clippers or anyone !
Powell’s contract would actually make the deal worse
James Harden…
A basketball player who had talent but no one is gonna remember him for what he did on the court…
Just that he quit on a lot of teams…
Speak for yourself.
Nah that’ll be majority…
His time in Houston will be a foot note to the last years of his career…
The opposite of Yao’s time in Houston…
Let the 1st half play out see what happens with injuries on other teams and so forth. If Harden himself gets ‘injured’, well that will be his soft quitting. But you need some collusion among teams, don’t give this dude anything more than vet min next year. Gotta start making an example of these clowns. Best punishment would be no one signing him, and he’s done, which is a shame, one of the best talents at the guard position, ever, and he’s going to be known for this stuff.
Mann, Powell and a pick for Harden
