Draymond Green has suffered a left ankle sprain that could sideline him for up to six weeks, tweets Jason Dumas of KRON4 News. It’s not a high ankle sprain, Dumas adds, and more information is expected to be revealed Monday at the Warriors‘ media day.
The injury happened during a pickup game this week at Chase Center, a source tells Kendra Andrews of ESPN (Twitter link).
“I dodged a bullet and learned that today by the way it’s (positively) reacting,” Green told Marc J. Spears of Andscape (Twitter link). “Even with an MRI you don’t see the trend of it immediately. The swelling is down.”
Green added that he expects to be sidelined for four to six weeks. That means he’ll miss all of training camp and the preseason and he’s not likely to be available when Golden State hosts the Suns to open the regular season on October 24.
It’s a tough break for a Warriors team that relies heavily on the defense and play-making that Green provides. His absence could mean a greater early-season role for Jonathan Kuminga, as well as offseason addition Dario Saric.
Injuries have become more common for the 33-year-old Green, who is preparing for his 12th NBA season. He battled through a series of physical issues while playing 73 games last season and was limited to 46 games in 2021/22 because of a back ailment.
Will this wake up the Warriors to how thin their front court is and how much they need more bigs???
Name one good option thats out there that has the iq to play in a motion offense? Dwight howard is not the answer to the puzzle.
Why do people continually assume that the only reason the Warriors don’t sign every available big is because their front office are sleeping idiots who are unaware of the make up of their roster? Mike Dunleavy made it clear months ago that they will not sign a big just to sign a big – that any big they sign would have to fit with the way the Warriors play. Adding a big guy to the roster who can’t get on the court because he doesn’t do what they need him to do (see Wiseman) doesn’t serve any purpose.
Pretty sure when he said that he was thinking of a healthy roster. I would find it weird If NOW they dont sign someone like Biyombo, Dedmon or Noel, guys who wont demand touches and will help their now weaker defense. As for Dray’s playmaking Curry will be more busy now
Opens up for Chris Paul to start. More likely 4 weeks out and you don’t want to rush back too soon. Saric could start against bigger teams.
Such a predictable and STUPID take. If they had added another big, then that big would now be 5th on the depth chart instead of 6th. Whoopity effin do.
Name good bigs out there and I’m sure the Warriors would be in on them. They, like most teams, don’t want name-brand retreads who, in reality, aren’t any good.
This has long been anticipated by Golden State. This is why you here about rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis, and why they were focused on a 4-year guy. They know they will need and be searching for bodies all year. He is one of the bodies. All they want him to do is to be able to fill in minutes.
Salary cap is a mess. Aging roster. Rudy Gay will be able to give minutes. Solid add. Just trying to hold it together with a band aid, and try to be healthy for the playoffs. Maybe hope to find something on the waiver wire after some buyouts.
Old player is old…
just an expensive backpack and all
Pretty much an expensive cheerleader…
The Warriors Haslam…
Warriors are not a serious contender; they are just a pretender to sell season tickets, shoes, and clicks. It’s unfortunate and we are all going to see one ugly trade deadline.
Just waiting on Looney now , then they will sign Mugsy Bouges to play Center
Start Dario
4-6 weeks sounds pretty serious for a sprained ankle… yet he’s talking about “dodging a bullet” and how the swelling is already down… then why ruling him out this long? I don’t really understand. Something is fishy here.
He’s old…
Could of been an Achilles…
