Harry Giles‘ one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Nets includes an Exhibit 9 clause, but not an Exhibit 10, Hoops Rumors has learned. That means Giles likely won’t be a candidate to join the Long Island Nets in the G League if he’s waived by Brooklyn before the season, since he wouldn’t be eligible for an Exhibit 10 bonus (worth up to $75K). He also can’t have the deal converted into a two-way.
A former first-round pick (20th overall in 2017), Giles was once one of the highest-rated prospects in his class, but sustained a couple of serious knee injuries. The 25-year-old has been out of the league the past two seasons.
Here’s more from the Eastern Conference:
- Trade talks involving Sixers guard James Harden are reportedly on ice. The team failed to gain traction in negotiations with the Clippers — Harden’s preferred landing spot — and then took him off the market. Still, given his comments about president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, it seems inevitable that Harden will eventually be moved. Which teams might be motivated to pursue Harden if things go awry during the season? Yossi Gozlan of HoopsHype cites the Bulls, Rockets, Mavericks and Lakers as possible destinations that could make some sense.
- Instead of prioritizing veterans like they have the past handful of seasons, the Bucks instead have filled out the back end of their roster with young players. Over at The Athletic, Eric Nehm spoke to draft expert Sam Vecenie to see how MarJon Beauchamp, Andre Jackson and Chris Livingston might fit with Milwaukee in 2023/24. Vecenie likes the defensive potential of second-year wing Beauchamp and 2023 second-rounder Jackson, but writes that both players will have to improve their jump shots to have a shot at regular minutes alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. As for Livingston, who was the final pick of 2023, Vecenie believes the former Kentucky wing is a long-term developmental project who is unlikely to make much of an impact in the NBA, particularly early on.
- In part two of their conversation about the Bucks‘ youngsters, Vecenie says he’s high on TyTy Washington‘s offensive upside and believes the 21-year-old guard has a legitimate shot at being converted to a standard contract. A first-round pick last year, Washington was released by Oklahoma City in August after spending his rookie season with the Rockets, later signing a two-way deal with Milwaukee. Nehm and Vecenie also discuss the potential of second-year sharpshooter A.J. Green, who is on a standard deal, and rookie Omari Moore, who is on a two-way contract.

Bulls, Rockets, Mavs and Lakers……
How is Harden a fit for the Bulls?
Is the deal going to be for LaVine? In which case Harden and DeRozan would possibly make the worst NBA pairing ever
Is the deal for DeRozan? Cause LaVine and Harden would be terrible defensively aswell
Okay the rockets, Brooks and FVV are trade ineligible, leaving what KPJ, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Amen Thompson…. Yeah they aren’t giving up multiple young players for Harden….
Mavs, okay so what are they giving up THJ and …. Sixers hang up the phone. It would have to be for Kyrie in which case as a Sixers fan I’d take that. But if your Dallas Luka and Harden much like the bulls idea don’t make sense together. Both are ball dominant, heavy iso players that suck on defence.
Then lastly the lakers. Linked to basically every top 100 nba player that’s made somewhat available. AD and Bron would both be off the table leaving next to nothing of interest. I’m which case they’d also have to offer 3 or more players to get a deal done salary wise which like in the past guys their roster or depth and they will fall short again.
Think those 4 suggestions are terrible…..
Here’s my thoughts.
ATL, Harden lives this place, say they lose Trae then Dejounte goes back to point. Can play more of a defensive role and allow Harden to run the offence. Played with Capela in the past and dons well. They also have good 3 and D wings.
No way they give up Trae for Harden so it would have to be apart of some kind of three or four team deal.
Miami, Harden doesn’t really fit their culture but they want/need another star and might just give up on Dame and go to Harden as the second best option available. Lowry a Philly native and expiring deal would make some sense, PJ Tucker going back to Miami makes sense. Maybe we could grab Tyler Herro if he’s on the outer too…..
Toronto, known to make a big move for a big name star in the past. Need a point guard to run the offence and provide some shooting. They also have contracts to give up be it GTJ, OG, Siakim, Thad Young, Otto Porter or Boucher.
Then lastly ofcourse the clippers.
Maybe slow start to the season and they get desperate. Can’t have another season of failure with PG and Kawhi both approaching the end of their deals. They have moveable contracts and in the end eventually someone might just get something done.
AKME gonna trade Vucevich and PWill for Harden since Billy likes small ball so much – then Caruso can play 4 and Harden 5, Caruso can switch to wherever the ball is on defense and create steals for the other 4 to fast break their way to 165-164 wins.
Just stop it with the Rockets already. Ime shut that trash down, rightfully so. they overpaid for FVV and Brooks, but they got the guys they needed. Harden is screwed.
Ty Ty Washington should be known as
Bye Bye Memphis or
Bye Bye Minnesota or
Bye Bye Atlanta or
you get the idea. Six teams in 15 months. Hope he rents and hasn’t bought.
Harden is unlikely to play in the leauge again. His baggage is to heavy and his persona shakes things up to much.
Hmmmm nah!
He’s still too good to sit. Someone will bring him in to try to supercharge a failing playoff run. Probably just won’t be the Clippers.
Sixers trade talks are going to continue to be on ice until the season is like a quarter of the way through. Some team with high expectations has an injury, early losses and needs to shake up the roster, or a team gets hot and they have assets they can move for a 1-yr rental where the GM thinks “maybe this is our year”.
Still will have to be a team with expiring contracts, or young players and picks that make sense for the Sixers. Really comes down to who else is actually available if a team is looking to improve. Again, Sixers going into next season want as much cap space as possible, so they’d be unlikely to take back a multi-year deal without pick compensation.
Clippers obviously. Heat, Warriors, Nets, Knicks, Raptors, Magic, and Rockets have pieces they could put together for an offer that makes sense for both teams. Predicting pick compensation is a foolhardy tasks, so I put it all as 1 or more.
Heat – Lowry, Jovic + FRP(s)
Warriors – CP3, Kuminga, Moody, + FRP(s)
Nets – DinWiddie, Royce, Philly’s 1-8 FRP, and another FRP.
Knicks – Fournier, Hartenstein, + another small contract and FRP(s)
Raptors – GTJ, Porter Jr, Thad, + FRP(s)
Magic – Fultz, Harris, Suggs/Anthony, + FRP(s)
Rockets – KPJ, Green, Tate/Eason/Whitmore + FRP(s)
Also, if Lillard isn’t dealt whatever the Sixers get for Harden could be used to make a trade for Lillard.
