SEPTEMBER 26: Oubre has officially signed with the Sixers, the team confirmed today in a press release. Philadelphia announced in the same release that it has waived Marcus Bagley. The corresponding move was necessary because the team had a full 21-man roster.
SEPTEMBER 18: Veteran forward Kelly Oubre is signing a one-year contract with the Sixers, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets.
Oubre was one of the last prominent free agents on the market. He struggled to find a contract to his liking in free agency despite averaging a career-best 20.3 points to go along with 5.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 48 appearances (32.3 MPG) last season with the Hornets.
He’s signing for the veteran’s minimum, Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports tweets. Having been in the league for eight seasons, Oubre is in line for a salary of $2,891,467.
Oubre spent the last two seasons in Charlotte and has also had stints with Washington, Phoenix and Golden State. In 527 career games, he has averaged 12.8 points in 25.8 minutes. The main drawback in his offensive game remains his spotty 3-point shooting (33.0% for his career, 31.9% last season).
The addition of Oubre will give the Sixers a full 21-man camp roster. If his deal is fully guaranteed, it would give Philadelphia 14 players on fully guaranteed contracts.
Given the uncertainty of James Harden‘s status, Oubre could be in line for major minutes. Philadelphia has a projected lineup of Harden, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris, P.J. Tucker and Joel Embiid. Their wing depth consists mainly of Furkan Korkmaz, Danuel House and De’Anthony Melton.
The Sixers were not among the teams rumored to be interested in Oubre. The Cavaliers, Mavericks and Heat were mentioned, but this could be an even better opportunity for him.
I thought he was gonna sign with miami
Love the move. They needed the offesne.
Nice Harden fill in for now
Excellent move. Not only gives them depth. But a much needed scorer. Gotta play better D. On a contender he should be better. Getting him at minimum is an excellent move. If he finally shows up. As dependable committed 2way player. He can get signed next yr. With Tobias coming off books. Up to him now.
I’m Philly owner I move Harden n PJ. Freak Morey. Take the Clipper deal. Have to move on from the Harden culture. You can always find a PG later. Why aren’t they looking at Payne ??
Depends on what clippers are offering. If it’s expiring contracts and a first round pick or two I’m fine with it. If it’s multi year contracts like Powell and not Mann, with heavily protected first round picks then harden is more valuable as an expiring contract. Him and Tobi off the book next year could free up to 76 million in cap space, and then they extend Maxey after that and can go over the cap to do that. That’s the issue that a harden trade is facing. Embiid isn’t a dummy, it sounds like he is on board with Morey (who I agree is an overrated gm) good signing today though.
The “hypothetical” clippers deal(s) sucks, dude! We would make out just as well letting him sit out the year and freeing up cap space.
Covington, Morris, and a pick. Morey wanted 2-3 picks, plus Mann.
I’d do for one pick and move on. Both those contracts come off next yr. Both have been solid rotation players. They can help.
I’m glad you are the Knicks hypothetical GM and not representin the 215
Yea well I’m not here for you. I’m sorry I know more than you.
What does being a NYK fan. Have to do with knowing or talking ball.
Please tell us your answer with Harden. We’re all dying to know…..
“OH boy Harden and Harris leaving after 2023 frees up cap space! Oh boy!”
So 76ers aren’t trying to compete in 2023? Goal for 2023 is what exactly? Do nothing in the playoffs get bounced again?
And who’s going to sign with the 76ers after watching this mess between Harden and the organization unfold? Agents definitely telling players steer clear unless the 76ers offer you a deal you can’t refuse.
NS4L I’m glad that you have an inside track on what agents are telling players…I’m also glad to hear that they are telling them to disregard a big payday and to take a lesser deal elsewhere. That is some shrewd negotiating tactics on display there lol
Dumpster fire organizations like the 76ers that mismanage Simmons Harden overpaid Harris is proof in the pudding what a train wreck that organization is becoming.
Oubre had few offers and lasted until September in free agency (3 months). Considering that a “win” speaks volumes of where the 76ers are right now.
“YAY WE GOT A GUY FEW PEOPLE WANTED AND DIDNT PRIORITIZE IN FREE AGENCY WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
PhillyPhan, how will him sitting out the year free up cap space? That will never happen in any world at any time.
If he sits out they’ll fine him and that will never happen.., he’ll feign an injury like a hammy or whatever. These guys aren’t stupid LOL.
You can’t cut him LOL.., how will they free up cap space with him sitting out? Seriously?
Tobias and Harden come off the books next season….that leaves us 50 mil in cap space…prior to signing Maxey. That’s kind of how he frees up money…that’s why no one in Philly wants Powell’s albatross contract…if we can throw PJ into a harden deal without taking on any contracts that are not expiring the money we can play with next year goes up and is well above anything another contender has to use next year. That’s why there is no panic in Philly over this…only Knick fans wanting us to make moves to help them
Okay that makes more sense. At first I was like what, there’s no way Harden gives up that money or they can write it off somehow. Thank you for the complete explanation.
My second thought was you’ve been on here way too long to not make sense like that. Sorry I did not give you the benefit of the doubt.
Covington and Morris also come off the books next yr. At least these guys want to play next yr. Harden is NOT playing in Philly. You will get less the longer you wait. Plus just move on. Turn the page. He’s a has been, use to be.
RoCo and Morris don’t offer much in terms of on court value. Neither is a quality starter anymore. Both are borderline rotation guys. Sixers have Embiid, dedmon, petrusev, bamba, Tucker, Tobias, Reed, and house on guaranteed deals in the front court. Where exactly do RoCo and Morris contribute in that rotation?
You are correct, but Al’s hatred of Morey won’t let him come to a logical conclusion like most people.
Love this pick up, Kelly is a good basketball player and the minimum its cheap even if he’s just depth it’s a great deal.
Be interesting to see how this affects any kind of Harden trade with Tobias or PJ likely included in that situation it would open up a possible starting role. If he’s happy to take less shots and get better defensively he could really work out here and set himself up for next offseason. Everyone knows he can be a scorer but can he work on a playoff side, time to show out and then look to cash up, Kelly.
Kelly Oubre is a low IQ player. Oubre is not good defensively and just hope he has his shot in the game. One game he looks like a good player next game he stinks. You will see how he is unmotivated for a talented player
This might be like the Warriors thing. He signed for low money played pretty good and got a nice contract out of it when he left. Same thing could happen here?
So a perfect replacement for Harden then?
Good pick up for Philly. If Oubre’s head is on straight he can help any team in the league.
OK I am saying it. Bet you that Embiid gets in a fight with Oubre when he doesn’t hustle and plays lazy. Embiid is not going to put up with a lazy player like oubre.
You mean like James Harden?
Harden doesn’t even run back at times. Even when it’s a tight gm at end lol.
Every player does this but not as obvious as Harden, so I appreciate him not hiding or pretending like 90 percent of the league watching their friends shoot then hugging after the game
Ever since the Houston days they tell Harden to conserve his energy for the offensive end. They’d rather have his 40 than perfecting sliding his feet in a crouch on defense.
Yeah but now he can’t give you 40 or 30. He’s never taken care of his body. Like the real athletes in this game. He doesn’t play a whole game lol. That’s why he gets burned in the playoffs. He literally dies out.
Why prolong this. It’s not working for Philly.
Gee then why did the knickerbockers engage the sixers in trade talks for this bum ????????????????????
Crazy that a 20 PPG scorer is signing for the vet min.
20 PPG on 17 FGA is not really a 20-point scorer. His shooting line was 43-32-76. Look up Tony Campbell
20 is 20 I will take it.
Hey Luke roster counts reads they have 13 guaranteed contracts, but you say this signing gives them 15… any move that hasnt been updated?
Petrusev has a partial guarantee, which Dana may have been counting. I edited that sentence to clarify that they’d have 14 full guarantees if Oubre joins that group.
I will take oubres 15 to 20 off the bench ty. Nice morey. Harden sits he loses his shot at free agency 2024 so I expect he will show up and behave.
If you think Oubre is gonna average 15-20 off the bench you’re insane. He isn’t getting 17 shots a game on Philly. 5 maybe.
I do think that, in fact I know that. I expect oubre to see lots of minutes off the bench and tucker on the bench quickly. Yes oubre will putting up lots of shots.
You “know” that Oubre will average 15-20 points a game, even though he will be the 4th option at best, 5th at best if Harden stays.
You’re very odd.
I don’t think Oubre will average that here…and if he is we will be in trouble unless Nurse can teach him better shot selection and how to hustle on D. He has the athleticism to help us, I’m just not sure he has the b ball IQ to help us in a sustained role. Either way on a minimum deal he should be an asset or a trade filler as the year goes along
Exactly. If Oubre averages 15-20 ppg Philly is in deep, deep trouble.
He might average 15-20 minutes a game. Maybe.
He’s a good depth signing though.
What does Harris give you ? Tucker ? Melton ? After maxey and embid without harden where does the scoring come from ? You better hope oubre can put up 15 -20.
You’re literally nuts if you think Oubre is getting 20 a game on Philly.
Ah what’s odd is after joel and maxey everything else is a question mark as far as scoring options my ignorant iconic fool. Especially Harden in a sixer uniform.
You’re calling people a fool when you think Oubre is going to average 20?
Embarrassing.
He’s a sixers homer who changes his screen name every year.
Not to be taken seriously.
Knicks don’t give sh what Philly does. Maybe this clown will listen to you.
Both contracts come off next yr. Players who will play unlike Harden. Players you might resign. Point is moving on and still compete next yr. Nobody is going to Philly.
Please enlighten us all PhillyWannabePhan

Who are they going to sign ????
This is a decent move for Philly…
Gives them someone to fill in for Harden and give the rock to Maxey more…
Now they can trade Harden for the flotsom his value is at… Even if it’s picks 5 years from now and a role player, they’ll be better than last year…
