With the Warriors eyeing the free agent market for a possible frontcourt addition, Tony Bradley is an option to keep an eye on, reports The Athletic’s Shams Charania (Twitter link). Golden State is actively considering signing Bradley to a deal, according to Charania.
Bradley, 25, holds career averages of 4.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in 179 career appearances across six NBA seasons. After being drafted by the Lakers with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2017 draft, Bradley’s rights were immediately traded to the Jazz. He played three seasons in Utah and also had stints with Philadelphia, Oklahoma City and Chicago.
This news comes off the heels of the Warriors scheduling to meet with free agent center Dwight Howard next week. As we noted in that story, Golden State is continuing to do its due diligence on available bigs. The team was interested in Harry Giles and JaVale McGee before each agreed to deals with other teams. Charania mentions Dewayne Dedmon as another player on the Warriors’ radar, while Derrick Favors is another option.
As we wrote on Friday, Golden State is at 13 players on standard contracts and needs to get to at least 14 by opening night.
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Appearing on an episode of The Lowe Post with ESPN’s Zach Lowe, Ramona Shelburne said the Warriors have opened extension talks with guard Klay Thompson. According to Shelburne, Thompson, who’s due to hit unrestricted free agency in 2024, could end up with a deal similar in structure to the four-year, $100MM contract Draymond Green signed this summer. That would mean Thompson could be in line to receive a three-year extension. The report that the two sides are engaging in these discussions isn’t a major surprise, as owner Joe Lacob went on record stating his intentions to keep Thompson a Warrior for the “rest of his career” earlier this month.
- The NBA’s new player participation policy is ultimately a good thing for fans, according to Dana Scott of the Arizona Republic (subscriber link), who takes a deeper look at what it means for the Suns. Phoenix is among 15 teams with multiple players who are affected by the policy, which includes any player named to an All-NBA Team or All-Star Game across the past three seasons. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal are all impacted by the rule, and Scott explores how that will impact each player’s availability for the Suns’ upcoming season and slate of nationally televised games.
- In case you missed it, the Clippers, Warriors and Suns are among teams who are over the NBA’s second tax apron and are limited to just minimum contracts for potential veteran signings.
If the Warriors sign Klay Thompson to that 3-year extension then Steph Curry must be in Joe Lacob’s ear. Otherwise I’m not seeing it.
Thompson’s making $43 million this upcoming season no matter what. If they did a 3 year extension similar to what they mentioned in the article to make his his contact worth $100 million then that leave three years at $57 million. $19 million a season is a bargain if Klay produces like he did last season.
When listening to the podcast it seemed more like it would be 4/100 added on, which I believe the new cba allows you to go out 5 years without it having to be a max deal now.
Chapman I believe you’re right. Klay’s not giving up a dime of his salary for 2024. That’s been earned and he deserves every penny.
The new contract would be a HomeTown discount for the 4-year security. He won’t get that anywhere else but through the Loyalty of himself and the Warriors.
What surprises me is that they would do that this off season and not let his current contract play out as they did with Draymond green. But I guess Klay Thompson isn’t the polarizing figure Draymond green is though he has his own issues with slowing down and catastrophic injuries.
Perhaps green set the precedent and the Warriors are saying, hey here it is let’s do what Draymond did. Done deal.
You’re right Taco but I don’t like how he crashed in the playoffs. Three for 19 followed by 3 for 15 and down go the Warriors.
Perhaps that was his bounce back year and he’ll be better this year. I hope that’s the case and I know Steph believes that. With Klay in the game, that Defender cannot sag and help on Curry which gives him a little more room to operate.
Good to see them going after big men not more guards. They know to compete in the West this year you will need to defend against teams that have centers in their rotation.
15 spot big man is strictly insurance against injury. Whoever they sign will not play. You figure the death lineup with green at Center closes out tight games.
Then the depth chart is Looney, Saric, Davis. An additional 4th big man sitting on the bench will be whoever they appease the fans with by signing.
If they don’t sign Dwight I feel they should(warriors) wait til during or after preseason to see who is available. Why rush and sign somebody now?
Exactly. There’s a reason why all these guys are available. They’re all hanging around waiting for someone to give them a shot. The only thing on their resume is size. Like I said a month ago, somebody will fall through the cracks in a roster Crunch and the Warriors will scoop him up. Look at McGee and Nerlens noel. Someone like that but a better player.
