3:33pm: The Celtics have officially announced the acquisition of Holiday in a press statement.
11:02am: The Celtics will acquire Jrue Holiday from the Trail Blazers in exchange for Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon and draft assets, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The draft picks are Golden State’s first-rounder in 2024 and Boston’s unprotected first-rounder in 2029, sources tell Wojnarowski. The Warriors’ pick is top-four protected.
The Celtics were among Holiday’s preferred destinations after he was sent from Milwaukee to Portland in the Damian Lillard deal, Woj adds. He notes that Boston had to make a significant offer to beat out several teams that were pursuing the 33-year-old guard.
Holiday will make roughly $35MM this season and holds a $37.4MM player option for 2024/25. The Celtics are believed to want to work a long-term deal, and he will become eligible for an extension during the second half of the season, tweets Bobby Marks of ESPN.
Marks also points out that the trade with Portland wouldn’t be permitted next year because Boston will be above the second apron. He notes that teams in that position have an incentive to maximize their assets before the strictest provisions in the new CBA take effect.
The addition of Holiday provides the Celtics with an emphatic answer to the Bucks’ acquisition of Lillard on Wednesday. Those two trades position Boston and Milwaukee as the clear favorites for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Holiday will help replace the tough defensive presence the Celtics lost when they traded Marcus Smart to Memphis. He can share ball-handling duties with Derrick White and won’t have to be a full-time point guard like he was with the Bucks.
Boston has a hole to fill with the loss of Williams, but the team holds a $6.2MM trade exception that it could use in its search for a replacement, points out Yossi Gozlan of HoopsHype (Twitter link). If the Celtics can’t find a big man they like, they could use they exception on another player and try to use him in a trade for a center in two months.
After facing a limited market for Lillard throughout the summer, the Trail Blazers have radically reshaped their roster with a pair of deals. In addition to Brogdon and Williams, Portland also acquired Deandre Ayton and Toumani Camara, along with three total first-rounders and a pair of pick swaps with Milwaukee.
Brogdon has two years left on his contract at $22.5MM each season, while Williams will make $11.6MM and $12.4MM over the next two years. Portland plans to hold onto Williams and pair him with Ayton in the frontcourt, Wojnarowski tweets. He adds that teams have expressed interest in Brogdon throughout the summer, and he seems to be a logical trade candidate with the Blazers committed to their young guards.
The Clippers, who nearly traded for Brogdon when the Celtics acquired Kristaps Porzingis, are an obvious choice to pursue him now, tweets Andrew Greif of The Los Angeles Times. Greif also hears that the competition for Holiday came down to L.A. and Boston.
well played Celtics.
You mean well played Portland!
Big overpay for a 33 year old guard that needs to be extended.
if he gets extended that’s less of an overpay
Jrue Holiday is a great player, an All Star, in his prime, and still underrated by those who haven’t watched him play. Celtics are going all in to win this year. Go Celtics!
Well Richard, go ahead, tell me who is going to play Center when Horford and Porzingus meet their inevitable injuries?
Apparently you forgot about 2012. Sad, such a diehard Celtics fan, yet forgets the past. So ironic
Kurtis is so angry. Maybe get some fresh air pal.
Ya it seems they jumped the gun trading for a one legged porzingis and now theres this cascading effect to insulate the bad decision to trade smart for kris
Can you revisit your take about Portland not getting anything of value for Holiday
U act like Williams is a ironman I didn’t want them to trade him but the kid is a real option when he’s made of glass I’m sure Stevens will find a big when they need one
As for the trade it’s fine Brogdon got his butt hurt for being in trade talks Williams is made of glass and the draft picks would’ve been trade anyways because of cap issues so it’s a fine trade
Who would otherwise play Center, Robert Williams? Like last year? He’s overrated, at least porzingis can play offence
Offense
I’m not English speaking, no offence
Excuses
Lol your opinion is like the 60th draft pick, wothless.
Worthless. You’re making it to easy.
*Too easy. lol
Damn. Ruined my entire thread lol.
I’m just messing with you bud.
33 year old with 906 games behind him is not in his prime. If he’s lucky, he has 400 games left. Maybe 200 of those at a high level. C’s are going to overpay to keep him. Did they need to give up 2 first rounders plus Williams and Brogdon?
It’s not like both Horford and Kristaps played more games than Time Lord last season. Almost twice as many. Oh wait…
Seriously. Williams doesn’t have any ability to stay on the floor.
Also, two picks. Exactly like everyone said. Well. Almost everyone.
Wouldn’t surprise me if the Celtics tried to trade Pritchard for a young C now. Or work something out at the TD.
Don’t like Boston, but this is a good move.
Major health questions but Porzingis, Tatum, Brown, Holliday and White is a problem for anyone.
Well played all around
Blazers have crushed it! 4 first round picks so far, Ayton, Williams, whatever they get for Brogdon. Unbelievably great job!
3… And they also traded Nurkic, Little and Keon… This weird ploy to act like Lillard got all this is pathetic. It overall is still a pretty good trade but it makes you all look desperate like you’re trying to prove the Blazers didn’t make a bad trade.
The reality is, it is pretty good but not as much as most Blazers fans were acting like Lillard is worth. Y’all got Williams, Brogdon, Ayton, 1 protected 1st, 2 unprotected 1st and 2 1st round swaps when Miami was supposedly offering Herro, 2 1sts, and at least 2 swaps along with other players for JUST LILLARD (when you add in Nurkic, Little and Keon, y’all really didn’t get much different than what Miami was offering, just a couple better fits in Ayton and Williams) and y’all were acting like you’d get 4 unprotected 1sts, at least 3 swaps and a couple good young players for just Lillard.
Portland gonna flip Brogdon for more assets!
Not sure they can get much. Injury history, solid player but maybe only a highly protected 1st at best.
Brogden is somewhat of an injury risk but he did play 67 games and shot 44% from the 3 on 4.4 shots pg. He can score, he can run the offense, play some D and hood Contract is reasonable at about 2/$44 mil. They can get a unprotected 1st from someone. Williams is more of an injury concern but they can probably get a couple of 2nd round picks or a protected 1st
no way they get an unprotected first for Brogdon. I loved the player but the celtics carefully managed his minutes and he still got hurt in the playoffs.
It’s very, very sad as a Celtic fan to lose both the amazing TimeLord and Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon! But we’ve already lost Marcus Smart so we’re used to big change. And Porzingis and Holiday are both All Stars if they play up to their best this season. Win #18!
The best basketball franchise ever
A couple future firsts that project to be mid to late
An unheralded prospect
And veteran salary filler
Is gravy or the cherry on top
Well, we can’t say Boston Celtics President Brad Stevens is afraid to make moves. Smart, Grant, Brogdon & TimeLord all gone. All key parts of last year’s successful Celtics team. Guess if you’re not moving ahead you’re falling behind. Go Celtics!
Doubt they get that….second at best
They should keep him as a veteran presence. Doesn’t work out when it’s all young guys. Look how bad Houston was.
Trailblazer did exactly what they should do is rebuild a team. Now the question is with 2 big men who can they flip for even more draft picks? Heat sure blew it by not going all in for Lliard so now the East has 2 super teams this year.
Brogdon and Grant will be flipped soon? Might be to late since camp starts soon.
I don’t think Grant can be traded. Williams might get traded because I can’t see him and Ayton playing on the same team unless they do a Jazz and go with 2 big men on the floor together.
Why not? One starts , one is a back up , simple.
The article alluded to the Trailblazers intent of playing Williams and Ayton together. I have to agree with ARC, very few big man tandems have worked well, and the two here in question are more traditional centers.
I think you mean Wolves. Gobert/Kat.
We’ve seen 29 whole games with KAT/Gobert tandem, kind of premature to make a judgement.
He stated it was the Jazz. Was simply correcting.
Can’t trade Grant until Jan 15th he signed new max.
They don’t need to trade them. You still need vets or you’ll get a bunch of young guys developing bad habits like in Houston.
Nobody can complain about their GM because he traded a allstar and now received draft picks and tradeable players. If you team is not a top 10 team why not build you team to be a top ten.
Brogdon has some value and his contract is somewhat of an overpay. His history of injuries, and limited time he’ll get on this team doesn’t make sense. I’d just collect more draft picks and let the kids play – see how they materialize while determining the next course of action.
@Iron, agree. Brogdon has had an injury history, so as backup he won’t have as much wear and tear, and he can be a great mentor. Williams is the same. Great defensive presence when you need him, but he can rest a lot more to avoid injuries.
We just added height. I like keeping both centers. I think the Blazers sit Pat going into training camp.
as a bucks fan I am happy Jrue went to a good place
Is this good for the Celtics?
Absolutely. If Time Lord could stay healthy, then no… but his lack of availability is what makes this a win for the C’s IMO.
Yea but you’re forgetting neither Horford or Porzingus can too. So who’s playing Center?
Yes, Holiday better defender, veteran whose won, also can run the point better. With Porzingis in the fold Williams wasn’t gonna see much time.
it’s good from the standpoint they upgraded their D and with a guy who played for one of their main rivals. going to suck for the bucks when they get beat by Jrue
He’s a better Marcus Smart with a better attitude and shot
Look at it this way if the team ends up having a down year because of injuries or horrible coaching they can trade him at the deadline till he signs a extension he’s just another asset that can be traded if need be
Teams are going to be calling for Williams next. This is great asset management from Portland.
A bad season that was in store for Boston just got a lot worse.
How do you figure that? They just traded 2 players with extensive injury history’s for one of the top perimeter defenders in the league. If Time Lord could stay healthy, then I would agree with you, since he can be an elite defensive presence… but he’s always hurt, same with Brogdon.
He was an all star last year and you’re acting like he’s completely washed hahahaha
I’m a Celtics fan..while I think they got better I’m still a bit torn mainly because (1) front court depth and (2) picks
I get Jrue is better than Brogdon, but is he so much better that it’s worth Williams and the picks?
Career numbers
Brogdon: 15.4/4.6/4.2 on .467/.388/.879
Holiday: 16.4/6.5/4.1 on .462/.366/.783
This doesn’t account for health, defense (though Brogdon is good), or more recent seasons where Holiday’s scoring has been much better (but his role on MIL was to score more too I’d argue).
As for front court depth, Horford is old, and Porzingis is injury prone. Having a starting level big as a backup even if he’s also injury prone is nice to have. Now it’s Kornet (solid but not nearly as good as Timelord)
Additionally, while Brogdon does have injury history he was healthy and was one of the few downhill players we had who did so with few dribbles. Now it’s just White. Joe Mazz seems to want his teams to just chuck threes and I fear it will only get worse.
If this team is healthy, I think the ceiling is higher..and while no trade comes without risks these concern me.
Wah a troll.
lol Wanna walk this one back now?
Oh this one stings.
Williams couldn’t stay healthy. He should have beaten out the old Horford. I think he stays with Portland as Ayton is not a defender like him. We will see if they actually share the floor together.
If they can keep Williams, he’d be ideal as a back up and playing 24 min. per game. Maybe some time at PF to give Murray a break.
Jrue is a more stable Smart.
Ancient One: You’re a more stable Smart.
will Brogdon be trade for more assets or will he be the backup behind scoot?
Portland has the best rebuild started that I can remember so far. Utah is the only competitor because Minnesota was so stupid to pay a kings ransom for gobert.
The fact that the spurs have wemby automatically makes them the best rebuilding team atm.
One player doesn’t make a team great. Spurs need to build around him and don’t have a lot of players to take the pressure off him. I see them getting another top 3 draft pick this year. Luckily for them their payroll will allow them to sign a good free agent in a few years.
Blazers have all of this young talent that doesn’t play any defense(except for thybulle).
You haven’t seen Sharpe or Scoot play “D” they are both lockdown defenders and make up for any deficiencies with speed and athleticism. This young team will surprise some and run some out of the building. All they needed were defensive rebounding bigs and they are getting it done with Williams and Ayton both better than N’Urkle getting up and down the floor. I love the youth PDX has now. I don’t think we’ve had this much anticipation for a young team since B Roy, Oden and Aldridge were young. And FYI PDX won their only championship with a young group who came together via league merger and a dispersal draft, acquiring Maurice Lucas, Dave Twatdzik and Moses Malone (traded to Houston before the season started).
I thought chet was going to be special after watching him in college and injuries can ruin a career. Wemby is close to as rail thin as chet and hasn’t played yet. He is the best prospect atm but needs a team around him still. I doubt the spurs make the playoffs this year with their current roster.
Everyone ripping on the T-Wolves, I’ll admit they’re lacking in depth but their starting 5 should be rock solid.
T-wolves is pone of those sleeper teams. If they stay healthy they could sneak up on western teams into a top 6 team in the west.
I would put thunder, Utah and Portland thirdish.
OKC is back in the playoff mix, have a very solid starting 5 where every player is still getting better, good depth including a possible MVP candidate and still have tons of picks.
I don’t think Portland is done trading yet, but what they’ve already received for Lillard seems like a big win.
Say what you will but the NBA has is awesome. The off-season is just as exciting as the regular season. Sad to see Smart and Rob go. Two of my favorite Celtic players of all time. I love to watch guys who can win a game without scoring a point. But the J’s are a championship level duo and mixing and matching around them is the smartest move to make. This team is loaded. It will be a battle in the nba this year and the Celtics will be in the mix for a title.
Probably need to bring in another big. Would not mind seeing Nerlens Noel come play for the home town and block a shot or two per game.
POR RFP (ask): 4 FRPs, two young rotation players.
MIA Best Offer (reported): 2 FRPs, Herro, expiring.
MIL Deal Running Tally: 3 FRPs, 2 FRP swaps, Allen (dealt), Brogdon and Williams. More to come. LAC on deck?
Potential trade with Clippers: Morris+Coffey + some assets for Brogdon.
Ideal for Portland they take on an expiring contract.
They could then try to trade Morris again for Fournier plus assets
And then Fournier for Bertans plus assets.
Then for … (contract quality keeps on going down)
I think the deal the LAC pulled out of with BOS included Morris, Coffey and 2023 FRP (30th overall) outgoing for LAC. They said it was medical, but it was unclear if more time might have solved their issues.
Even if it would be Morris + Coffey + a 2nd round pick I would like it for Portland.
Coffey could be a good addition to their roster, Morris is expiring and who would give more for injury-prone Brogdon?
Keep dreaming, PDX doesn’t need or desire either for Brogden.
LOL. Let Cronin do the work. He will at some point prior to the deadline seek to convert Brogdon into expiring deals and a pick(s), whatever the market will bear. Being on the hook for his 2024-25 money (which is 50/50 to be dead money) can’t happen.
Thats what I am saying: turning Brogdon into an expiring contract would be a great move, even if not much assets are attached.
Brogdon to Clippers.
What’s interesting is who is out there for big men the celtics can grab
They could always resign Blake Griffin. Also got Dwight Howard (but I really, really doubt he’s even an option for them.)
Brad Stevens really talked up Blake Griffin recently. Let’s see if it was all hot air cuz now they have a need not just an open roster spot.
Gary: Stevens has said he wants Griffin to come back but Griffin’s considering retirement
top 3 available all work imo. biyombo, Noel, dedmon. could trade for a Zach Collins too which they have shown interest in the past. you’ll see a center signing in the next 48 hours.
If you ask 95% of Warrior fans they say Dwight Howard should be signed immediately. Let’s see if the Celtics are idiots like the Warriors and pass on him LOL.
Wow , you can argue that the Cs had the best off-season. Getting jrue made up for losing Marcus smart.
bUt PoRtLaNd GoNnA gEt 4 or 5 fRp FoR hOlIdAy, bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!straight up clowns, ahahahahaha!!!!!
kurtis blows you were literally the only person who said they’d get 4/5 picks for him while you were building your straw man argument. Be better
Hahaha, straw man? Y’all delusional.
Here’s a literal quote “His trade value should be 3 first rounders.”
Haha, yet, what they get two 2nd rdrs? Ahahaha!!!!
you said 4 to 5 first round picks. that’s more than 3. My mistake for thinking you knew how to count Kurtis Blows
Also they didn’t get two second rounders you clown.
Before y’all clowns run on about how they technically got 2 FRP, first understand at the very best they getting the 20th pick with those picks. So here is a list of 20th picks the last 20 years:

So go ahead, someone with even the slightest bit of sense go ahead and give me an actual, logical reason of how those picks hold any value in a Lillard trade? I bet you cant. Ahahahahahahaha¡!!!!!!!
I don’t know if you’re grasp of how the draft works or math is the more hilarious kurtis blows
By 2029 the Celtics pick can be worth a lot. Six years away.
Warriors can be 20th pick or they can be much better. They are old, and injury prone last few years. They will be a wild card.
And don’t call me a clown!
“Technically”?!?! You’re adorable
K-Blow: As consistent as Ernie Banks. Enema added to Kardashian and drug kingpins. Details to follow.
lmao dude you were the one who kept saying over and over that Miami’s trash offer for Lillard was more than enough to get the deal done. Then Portland got way more. You have nothing to gloat about.
Kurtis, I think whoever said that, what they must have meant was Portland coming away with four or five first round picks in TOTAL. From Lillard, from holiday, and whatever else. Now that’s possible. Had to be what they meant.
In these trades the biggest winners have been first Portland, second Celtics, third Suns, and losers Bucks.
Bucks will not win with this roster. Giannis will still leave at the end of next year or 2025 as their 2-4 best players will be mid 30’s, with no one coming up behind them. And their pick and pick swaps to Portland are going to be gold. And they just made the Celtics even better now.
Celtics now are likely number one to come out of the East.
Any roster with Giannis and Lillard on it going to win a lot of basketball games.
Ok, but not favorites to win the championship. Meanwhile Middleton and Lopez are/will be mid thirties next year. They have no one coming behind them. No draft assets.
In two years Giannis will be gone and they will be rebuilding while paying a mid 30s 6’1 guard ego they cannot trade because he will be owed $60 million a year.
At most they bought themselves one year window. They are going to miss those three picks they gave away, yes likely the seals will be converted too and will be lottery picks.
And it isn’t like Lillard is that much better than Jrue. Sure offensively, though Jrue is very efficient there, but they lose a lot defensively.
Giannis not leaving, if he left in FA no good teams have cap. If he gets traded that team is losing assets. He apparently likes California think his spouse is from CA, Warriors would be bare bones at the end. They could have money but Curry would be near done and on big contract. Lakers AD is not reliable. Clips and Kings are no.
When he is a free agent and wants to leave, the Bucks will be forced to sign and trade him. They will get one or two first round picks for helping out. That’s it.
A player wants out, is a free agent, has been great for your city, and the Bucks will force him to stay?
Lillard can’t play D, so unless The Freak covers for him I don’t see the Buck improving at all. I believe they’ll regress unless the association mandates constant foul calls for anyone near Lillard or Giannis. That would be so boring “a free throw marathon”
Good for both parties. Love the arms race at the top of the East.
Yes absolutely. Checking the calendar now to see when Milwaukee plays Boston. Must see TV.
Ayton, Williams, 4 first round picks and counting, depending on brogdon’s value. GREAT job by the blazers!
Unless Ayton starts shooting like Dirk, there’s no way him and Rob Williams can share the floor together.
It doesn’t matter. They’ll get a chance to assess both assets and determine which, if any, they want to retain in the long-term. Those they don’t wish to retain will be moved again at some point. Smart asset management.
You’re right I can’t imagine Grant and or Sharpe sitting.
Ayton’s a natural power forward. Watch. He’s gonna explode.
All they need to do with this group is Defend, Rebound, Outlet pass and dunk lobs. Simons, Sharpe, Grant and Scoot have the offense covered.
If you are a stock broker what Portland is doing would be called churning, lol. Now they will trade Brogdon to the Clippers for one of their valuable 2028 or 2030 picks. And they likely will be able to get something good for Williams too.
Although churning usually creates a positive assets, it creates the minimalist of positive assets. Usually churning is something brokers use to influence people to give them their money, but the reality is, all it will do is turn Portland from a bottom feeder to a shotty team with a worse pick
Andre Drummond now with trade slot, only one I can think of that would fit, $ wise, and is doubtful to cost them too much. Love Holiday, but losing the time lord stinks. They’d go over the tax apron, however, I believe.
Looks like they’re going to give Wenyan Gabriel a shot to be their backup Center.
Celtics are hoping Tingus Pingus and Horford can stay healthy… Holiday replaces what Smart does but at a better rate on offense. Just glad Jru didn’t end up on the sixers.
Hardin continues to hurt himself.
ECC: Dame v Jrue…book it!
This is so like the Garnett deal. Trying to assemble this mega-team for one shot at glory. The deals Stevens has made won’t age well.
that team won a title so if this is like the Garnett deal it’ll age better than this trash take
Umm. The Garnett deal aged very well.
Haha, You’re arguing against yourself.
Garnett Deal+Great.
Brogdon to Clipps for Morris expiring + a protected pick and i hope Kenyon Martin jr
Time Lord instead of Nurkic should have been a better feet for Suns …
Blazers now on the rise. Cronin did an exceptional job. Trading Dame was the only way to collect assets and this team is so much different now. Bravo Joe.
He must have got a little momentum watching the Wizards trade the untreatable Bradley Beal. Similar situation with loyalty, I want to play here forever, sign to Max deal, Etc
Jrue gives Dame headaches. Both franchises in ‘win now’ mode.
We (Blazers) reset franchise. Plus we added defense while unloading a max contract, defensively challenged, aging star who wanted out. He was placed in a great situation.
Dammm that’s a huge return for a old guard.
Bet they flip Brogdan to LA for Terrance Mann, RoCo and a pair of second round picks.
Robert Williams and DeAndre Ayton together seems like a real odd pairing. Ayton lacks defence and I suppose you could play Williams as a 4 but that’s no spacing and Scoot isn’t a shooter either.
Rob will more than likely play off the bench then cause by the sounds they plan to keep him.
Washington Wizards should really try get Robert Williams he’d be such a good fit there with Tyus Jones, Kuzma, Poole and those guys.
Dallas is also another team which makes sense as they need a defensive minded centre.
“Dammm that’s a huge return for a old guard.”
Hahah, says the Philly fan.
Good luck this year bro.
Portland should keep trading. Scoot(PG), Sharpe(SF) and Vassel(SG) are young to build around. I would flip Robert Williams and Ayton for the Rockets Smith jr and Porter jr (waive) along with Detroit’s Wiseman. Draft good next year and they should be in great shape right?
Vassell? He plays for the Spurs. Do you mean Simons?
Thank you. I for some reason mixed it up. I would trade Simons for a young SG
I was wrong about Boston going for holiday. Long term this sucks for the Celtics but this year it is a great move. Get it while you can. Holiday is good in the clutch unlike Smart. I wonder if Brogdon being pissed had anything to do with it.
In the modern NBA you play for the here or now. A lot can happen between now and 3-5 years down the road. Brown and Tatum are ready to win, they just need the right pieces around them.
I thought Heat would be the favorites. Also thought Sixers could get in there. But Celtics going all in. Means they are all in for this yr. Very nice move. He’s a true PG better than Smart or Brogdon. Plus with D White backing him. Makes them deep. I’m Boston I sign Howard. Excellent move for Celtics.
Can’t wait for that first Bucks-vs-Celtics gm.
They are the two best teams in the East.
I was hoping Knicks would trade for Jrue.
Now Blazers should Roll Robert Williams for Kuminga! Makes sense for both teams.
I’ve heard worse ideas.
I keep Williams. I doubt Cronin gets rid of height since we finally added some. Plus we’re defensively better with him.
Kenyon Martin jr
“Not” keep dreaming! Williams (Defensive Stopper) has upside while Kuminga has hit his ceiling!
I don’t like Tatum at the 4. He was drafted like LeBron and others as a SF. Only until midget ball that these SFs turned into tweener PFs. PG. Holiday SG. Brown SF. Tatum PF. Kristaps C. Horford. Sixth man. White
Luke Kornet is the happiest man in Boston.
Great trade for the Celtics they get a great leader in holiday who is better than brogdan in defense and stats healthy . Williams is a lose but he is always injured the picks was worth it . I believe they will sign Noel to back center he is good defensively
When he is a free agent and wants to leave, the Bucks will be forced to sign and trade him. They will get one or two first round picks for helping out. That’s it.
A player wants out, is a free agent, has been great for your city, and the Bucks will force him to stay?
No other choice for CELTICS opponents now, they have to hunt Jaylen Brown on offense …… let him have the ball, those turnovers should keep games close.
Yes, hunt Brown on offense.
Let him have the ball.
Serious hoops knowledge showing.
^ That one just flew right over you bro.
Miami fans be crying themselves to sleep…
Not only have the Bucks taken their star trade off the table… The Celtics got better defence in their guard rotation…
Whilst the Heat are the same play in level team…
Well Jimmy has a new haircut. Maybe that makes everything better
This has created a good rivalry. Bucks trade Jrue. After he praised the Bucks organization. And spend more money on Dame. We all got pride. Celtics are a contender with Jrue. And they will have to go thru Bucks. These are going to be fun games, man. Nov 22 Bucks in Boston !!!!
So Portland is getting a late 1st
A future 1st to take
An injury prone brogdon making 22 mill this year and next
An injury prone Robert Williams making 11 12 13 mill next season.
Lillard trade was a bit underwhelming
Holiday, max contract Ayton, 1 future 1st, 2 pick swaps. And now they trade Holliday for a late 1st, 2 injury prone players, and a future 1st.
Those future 1sts land outside the lottery Portland gave Lillard away for nothing.
Certainly not the way all major BB publications graded it. We traded an aging, defensively challenged player – who will be the #2 behind Giannis, for 2 centers, a young 4, the current sixth man of the year, while adding picks and flipping others. Plus we unloaded a contract that in another year will be bloated like Hardin’s. Dame led us to zero finals appearances as our #1. All while skunking Miami. So yeah, differing opinions.
For an overpriced max contract Ayton
Injury prone Williams.
Injury prone Brogdon who’s trade to the clippers fell thru because of concerns over his elbow.
1 for sure late 1st round pick in 2024 (warriors pick)
2 future 1sts from MIL and BOS which may wind up 20 or worse.
That’s reality.
And if the future 1sts land outside the lottery Portland gave away Lillard for nothing.
“But least we got something for Lillard!” Isn’t exactly a winning mentality.
Uh huh. The reality? Again, you are the only acknowledged ‘expert’ whining about the trade. I’ll wait and see how this works out.
Still think the Blazers came out better here since they got more picks that could also turn out really valuable. Celtics had little to lose though by getting rid of one of their injury-prone big men (even though I really like Williams’ game) and they found a solid replacement for Smart. I’m guessing Sharpe moves over to SF since Simons is still around? I always felt like Simons was a sell-high candidate because his ceiling is limited by his lack of size and defense.
