Sixers forward Kelly Oubre is back with the team and in “good spirits,” head coach Nick Nurse told The Associated Press and other media outlets. Oubre suffered a broken rib, lacerations and other assorted injuries when he was struck by a vehicle near his residence on Saturday.
Oubre will be re-examined at the end of the week and a timetable for his return could be set at that time, the AP report adds.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Nets coach Jacque Vaughn labeled Ben Simmons‘ latest ailment a “bump in the road,” Brian Lewis of the New York Post tweets. “This is just a bump that’s in his road right now that happened. Its not like he wanted it to happen,” Vaughn said. “He was playing well and this happened. Everybody’s body is different. This is what he’s dealing with and we’ll support him while he’s dealing with it.” Simmons will be out at least another week due to a nerve impingement in his back.
- Prior to Simmons being sidelined, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie was struggling with his new role of playing off the ball. “He’s still wrapping his head around how he fits into the different lineups he’s been in, which is definitely understandable,’’ Vaughn said. “But that’s a part of growing together as a team. We’ll continue to learn about the best position to put him in. But he has an extreme ability to impact second group, first group, small and big lineup.’’ An unrestricted free agent after the season, Dinwiddie is averaging 10.7 and 4.8 assists per game this season, compared to 16.5 points and 9.1 assists after Brooklyn re-acquired him last season.
- Would the Knicks be better off pursuing a Karl-Anthony Towns trade this season rather than down the road? The New York Post’s Jenna Lemoncelli relays comments made by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and Brian Windhorst during a recent podcast, which noted that Towns’ salary jumps from $36MM this season to $49MM in the first year of his extension next season with ascending salary figures in future years.
Perhaps the Knicks, Bulls and Raptors can get together and shake things up for all parties involved.
Knicks get Pascal Siakam and DeMar DeRozan. All the bases should pretty much be covered. Put those draft picks to work.
Raptors get Zach LaVine and Alex Caruso, and a bit of draft compensation from the pick rich Knicks. Scottie Barnes team now. His team to run just like Haliburton with the Pacers. LaVine is the bucket-getting 2nd option. The Raptors currently remain talented, but woefully broken as a team. Need change.
Bulls get Julius Randle and plenty of draft compensation to get their rebuild started. Build around Randle instead of LaVine, and for a team void of young talent a bunch of picks to kick off the rebuild. Randle already signed so Bulls can get their salary cap in an optimal position for a couple of years down the road.
So the Knicks, a deep team needing a #1, make a 1-for-2 deal, giving up picks *and* the best player in the deal, who is signed to a bargain contract, for the expiring contracts of two players who exacerbate the team’s spacing woes. Got it.
Best player? Since when did Julius Randle become a better and more versatile defender than Pascal Siakam? Siakam does have a ring. $$$$ is not any type of issue whatsoever for the Knicks, who are over the cap. Bargains don’t matter. That is unless they decide they don’t fit, and turn that into cap space for the offseason. Expiring contracts are your “friend” when you can pay the most, and $$$ are not an issue.
Siakam has a ring and a proven record of playoff performance. I love Julius, but Regular Season Julius Randle, and Playoff Julius Randle are two different things.
You also add a proven scorer in DeRozan.
Lots of highly enticing defensive lineups for Thibs to use with Siakam.
Yeah.. that’s how K-mart turns into Sears. They will all still be following the leaders.
Bulls don’t want Randle. Not too many would take Randle. He’s not for everyone. Imo Dallas his hometown. Is best place for him. He’d be on his best behavior there. And would do all he can to fit with Luka. Knicks are stuck with Randle for a while.
Randle for Siakam accomplishes nothing, certainly nothing worth outgoing draft picks. The two are about equal overall players with strong positives and negatives, some the same, some different. I can see both fanbases excited to move on from their guy on that basis, but I’ll stay with the devil I know. Randle is a better fit for the NYK because he’s a dominant rebounder, and that fits here, and he’s also signed to a below market contract for this year and next, which fits here too. A bigger max deal for Siakam when he becomes a UFA at year’s end doesn’t fit. TOR, the team that previously drafted him and gave him his current max deal doesn’t think he’s worth it, why would any other team? Walking away from him is not likely to provide much cap space. Of course, cap space is no longer a path to a star player in any event. They only really move by trades now, and that requires draft picks and expiring deals. So the last thing a team should do is deal away draft picks for deals that will have already expired.

Pooles team ???????
Now you believe me about Poole. He’s a system guy. That has let a little success go to his head. Plays No D at all.
No to KAT …….
He’s a 1way player. Never work in NYC.
Rudy is the guy who would work in NY.
KAT is not going anywhere this year. They are playing like a top 3 team in the west. They have beat Nuggets Celtics and the Heat. He has emerged to what Jimmy Butler tried to get him to do.
He’s been surprisingly solid this year. Even when he hasn’t been scoring well, he made his presence felt outside of the terrible game he had against Boston. And the rim protection has looked good, allowing Gobert to operate more in drop coverage, which was a big issue last season for them. The offense has looked better with him off the floor for the most part, but it’s still early.
You can’t play with a broken rib, Oubre, Jr., despite his great spirits, will be out for a bit
But, I will welcome him back when does!!!
he has been terrific
