The Sixers retained Paul Reed in free agency on a three-year, $23.5MM deal this summer. Coach Nick Nurse would like to get more bang for those bucks and expand the big man’s playing time, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I think that Paul (has) played so well that it’s hard to not let him stay out there. In fact, I’ve been trying to keep him out there a little bit longer, figure out a way to keep him out there,” the Sixers coach said of Reed, who is averaging 4.1 points and career highs of 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 13 minutes per night as Joel Embiid’s backup.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Kelly Oubre took another step in his recovery from being struck by a vehicle while walking in a hit-and-run accident. The Sixers forward returned to the practice court on Monday, Pompey writes. Oubre suffered broken ribs in the incident. He’ll be reevaluated in approximately one week. “I think getting him moving was the first step,” Nurse said. “Getting him into some contact and things is the next step. I think after [Tuesday] we’ll have a little better read on the timeline.”
- Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla asserted himself and sent a message by pulling his stars in the third quarter against Memphis on Sunday and it worked, John Tomase of NBC Sports Boston notes. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday sat for a seven-plus minute stretch while reserves closed out the quarter. They returned for the fourth quarter as the team pulled out a 102-100 win. Still, Mazzulla wasn’t impressed. “I don’t think we deserved to win that game,” he said,
- For the most part, however, the Celtics‘ starters have blended well while racing to an 11-3 record, Michael Pina of The Ringer writes. Prior to their loss to Charlotte on Monday, the starting five — that also includes Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White — had a league-leading plus-104 overall rating while generating 124.1 points per 100 possessions on a 66.6 true shooting percentage. “[They’re] one of the best starting fives in the league, if not the best starting five in the league,” Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said.
I would not be shocked if Paul Reed was included in a trade at the deadline. But, it really depends on the viability of Mo Bamba and Marcus Morris backing up the 4 and 5. Right now, that’s a weak spot.
But, Jalen McDaniels isn’t providing anything to Toronto, so if it was Keep Bball or McDaniels, this was a better of two meh choices (based on what they look like today).
Celtics our going to win it all unless they get a better coach! The only time that this team looked good was the last game against Philly! With Brown and Pronzingas out, the team actually played as really good game on offense, they cut and passed really well! With Brown and Pronzingas back it’s back to whoever has the ball pass half court shots! It takes talent to coach talent! Please go get a real coach!
Read that back to yourself and let us know what you think……
When one can not write their opinion, I don’t care what they say. Joe has great assistants plus Coach Stevens and Van Gundy. The Celtics will be fine come playoff time. Tatum and Brown have plenty of experience and Holliday has a ring.
…………..disregard. It sailed right over your head.
Nice kingface niiiice
That was a terrible & disappointing loss against the Hornets last night. Just 3 for 25 from three from Hauser, KP, Holiday and Brown! And once again, getting less shots than an opponent & only 19 assists! Missing all those free throws and Jaylen looked gassed throwing up that key three which barely hit the outside rim. Coach has to get this team passing & playing D!
Now the competition gets tougher with the Bucks and Magic playing great. Jeez! Our record sure doesn’t show how bad we’re playing!
Come on Celtics! Play as a team!
Oh, and with Tatum going 1-11 from three in one game, then giving up 8 turnovers in the next, why is Jason bringing the ball up court? Give him some rest! Lots of his turnovers are just weak, easy to read and jump passes. Go Celtics!
Stinking up a game happens. It’s all about building and coming together for the second season. It’s a process.
Cavs haven’t looked all that good so far. Yet they went into Philly. Without DM and won in OT. It’s the regular season. Learn and enjoy it.
You know how you use Reed. You play him at the 4. Let Embiid control the offense more.
I mean, only if you haven’t watched the last six games for the Cavs. We’ve gone 5-1 even with three key players out. Guys have stepped up. The defense has improved every game. Our shooting is clicking.
Yeah that’s my point. Folks like you think you know something. Cause you look up a 5-1 stat. I doubt you watch any games you talk about. Cause you’d have to be watching 24/7 …….
Cavs are 8-6. 2-5 before Sixer gm. So yeah they must be great now.
What we all want to know here .
Is What Team Do You Follow ??
What Team Do You Root For ??
What team are you a fan of ??
Please tell us !!!!!!!!
Cavs, which is how I know they’re better than you’re giving them credit for. I’ve been a Cavs fan since the early nineties, growing up in the city. But I’ve been following basketball for as long as I can remember.
I’ve told you, and several others, that before.
The Cavs have shown improvement in each game of the six game stretch since they got back Allen. Porter has been big in the last two against Denver and Philly. And even before that, over the last eight, they’ve been super solid. The Kings game, we had some communication issues, but mostly it was just their shots fell and our didn’t. The Thunder game was close, we just ran out of gas. Every other game has been a solid team win where guys have pulled their weight. Craig Porter stepped up in the last two to replace LeVert. Wade’s defense has made sure we haven’t missed Okoro as much (including the steal that sealed last night’s win), combined with Strus’ increasing comfort level and good rotations by our bigs. And losing Mitchell has been covered by Darius Garland rediscovering his 3pt stroke and getting Mobley and Allen involved in the offense as much as possible. Improved rebounding has also helped.
“You’d have to be watching 24/7”, uh, no? I don’t watch games the day they happen every time, nor do I watch every game for every team. I’ve barely paid attention to the Suns or Mavericks, and you’ll notice that I don’t talk about them as much, for example. I watch all Cavs games though. Having a job where I’m mostly at a desk and can do my own thing while doing paperwork is helpful for that. As is a commute by bus.
I don’t tell you that you don’t know jack about the Knicks even when I disagree with some of your assessments. Kindly return me the same courtesy.
You’ve never told me. That’s why I ask.
And since you only have answers about teams. Oh except the Mavs and Suns which we both know is not true. (Ayton trade, KD, Beal ). We all have opinions and takes. Some are just horrible on here HR. That’s why you don’t have to respond. Then there are the ones who have answers. No one here or ones who make a living doing this. Can possibly have answers about all the teams. You might want to learn that.
Disagreement about takes. Is a conversation. Not a competition. I get the internet is probably not the place for it. But I like to think it can get done. Yes I’m an optimist.
No one here can tell what I don’t know. Cause I don’t talk about what I don’t know. Knicks are second nature to me. So I’d welcome any real conversation. Basketball is like chess to me. I know I’m good. But I can always get better.
And just to inform you again. I’ve been saying the Cavs are better than the Knicks since the DM trade. And consider them a dark horse contender.
I just wonder if you changed your name. Cause you remind me of a Cavs fan that didn’t want Mitchell. And loved Sexton . Who hasn’t been seen since.
I would do a salary dump trade with Jones, Merril and Jerome with a 2nd for someones draft rights. Promote Mobley and Porter jr. Sign Pete Nance to a two way. With one roster spot open for a buyout candidate and one two way open. (Some two way candidates are Jazian Gortmen (Bates age), Sharife Cooper, Antonio Davis, Kai Jones, Liam Robbins, Yuri Collins, Donovan Williams, Caleb McConnell, KJ Williams, kylor Kelly, Jaylen Martin, Jake Stephens, tavien Kinsey, Nick Ongenda, Gora Camara). Plus TJ Warren deserves to be in the league
