November 2nd, 2023 – Luke Adams states, “this year’s [Indiana Pacers] roster (the most “win-now” one [Rick Carlisle has] had since returning to Indiana) …”
June 30th, 2021 – Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard states, “We’re in a win-now mode, we’re trying to win and so we identified some traits or characteristics we wanted in a coach.”
Year 1 of win-now mode – 25-57 record
Year 2 of win-now mode – 35-47 record
Luke Adams states, “But I think they like the work [Rick Carlisle’s] done with the young guys like Haliburton, Mathurin, Nembhard, etc. and wanted to reward [Rick Carlisle] for that.”
But why would the Indiana Pacers issue a press release about Rick Carlisle’s contract extension the day after the season opening home win against the Washington Wizards if they like his work and wanted to reward him? This approach with the press release screams that the front office did not want to answer any difficult questions from the media leading up to the opening game, such as the last time the Indiana Pacers fired Rick Carlisle his record was 35-47 during the 2006-2007 season. The Pacers’ record last season was the exact same 35-47 but now he is being rewarded with a multi-year contract extension.
The Pacers were ashamed to have not have treated Rick Carlisle to the same standards that they held Nate McMillan, Nate Bjorkgren, and the 2006-2007 Rick Carlisle.
