Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, like Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels, was fined $25K for his role in an altercation early in a game between Minnesota and Golden State that ended with Draymond Green ejected and later suspended. However, according to The Star Tribune’s Chris Hine, Gobert wasn’t satisfied with the league’s ruling and said this week that he planned to appeal his fine.
“You know every situation is different, but to me that was more than just a reaction,” Gobert said. “That was a personal attack. Me being fined when I chose to, when I was being a peacemaker and I chose to keep my hands up while I was being assaulted, is shameful. Shameful. And I’m gonna appeal that fine.”
Immediately following Tuesday’s fracas, Gobert called Green out.
“Clown behavior, and I’m proud of myself for being the bigger man again and again,” Gobert said after the altercation. “And yeah, [Green] doesn’t even deserve me putting my hands on him. My team needed me tonight. I did whatever I could to keep my cool and then show that I wasn’t making the situation worse, and I do hope that the league is going to do what needs to be done, because that’s just clown behavior. Not much to say. It’s clown behavior.”
We have more from the Northwest Division:
- The 3-9 Trail Blazers have been searching for more physicality, size and rebounding in their starting lineup and may have found it in second-round rookie Toumani Camara, according to OregonLive’s Aaron Fentress. Camara has started the past three games for Portland, replacing Matisse Thybulle. While Portland lost all three games, Camara’s impressive rookie season is continuing. In his three starts, he’s averaging 6.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. “Tou is going to be who he is going to be no matter if he’s starting or not,” head coach Chauncey Billups said. “He’s going to be the same guy. He’s going to scrap, he’s going to claw, he’s going to rebound. He’s going to protect the rim a little. He’s going to always be who he is.“
- Simone Fontecchio feels more comfortable with the Jazz in his second season with the team, even if the minutes haven’t come yet, according to The Deseret News’ Sarah Todd. Fontecchio had been bouncing around international rosters, along with playing for the Italian national team, before joining the Jazz. The fact that Utah had other international players that Fontecchio could relate to was huge for his acclimation. “He has an ability to really stay ready,” coach Will Hardy said. “Whether he plays a ton of minutes or whether he plays zero. Obviously his threat of shooting is is great for us. But I’m more excited about all the the other things that he does — crashing the glass, changing things on the floor, he is a great cutter, and he really has a toughness about him that I think our team needs.“
- Jazz center Walker Kessler is out for around two weeks with a UCL injury that usually requires Tommy John surgery. UCL injuries in basketball are a bit rare, but it’s a positive sign Kessler was diagnosed with a sprain and not a tear, according to The Salt Lake Tribune’s Eric Walden. Walden broke down the injury with a doctor, concluding that ligament isn’t used often in basketball, and the injury shouldn’t be worrisome.
- The Nuggets selected Ismael Kamagate with the 46th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He’s currently playing his first EuroLeague season with Milan and got to play with the Nuggets in Summer League this past season, averaging 6.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks across four starts. Though he admitted to Eurohoops.net that playing in the NBA is his dream, he’s willing to be patient. “We just have to not rush the process, because that’s how to can lose yourself. Take your time, do what you can do. In the team, everybody can do everything. You have to master what you do better, and that’s what I learned this summer,” Kamagate said.
Golbert needs to stop pretending to be a peace maker when his guy was the only one holding Thompson at that point and instead of getting between them he wrapped up ONLY Thompson. Face it if Green did that to McDaniels wrapping him up it would have been Green getting kicked out and suspended. I am not giving Green a pass just stating Golbert is full of it being a peacemaker.
Stop crying. You boy green is a thug
It doesn’t excuse what Draymond did and Green got what he deserved, but Gobert earned the fine. He shouldn’t have gotten involved. I’m sure Jaden McDaniels is more than capable of defending himself from Klay Thompson. If they had started throwing punches or if more guys had got involved then I could see it, by all means protect your guys.
I didn’t excused what he did. If Green didn’t drag Golbert away in a choke hold he wouldn’t have received a 5 game suspension. If he let go its only a 1 game suspension. Mcdaniels is the one that should have been given a 1 game because he hung onto Thompson well after Thompson let go and did a elbow at thompson. Funny how none of Golbert team mates stuck up for Golbert.
if this if that …u R a Gobert hater like bozzo
Sebch- if you’re saying I’m a Gobert hater then you couldn’t be more wrong. I’m a fan of the Jazz and have been a Gobert backer since he was Derrick Favors backup.
Nothing against you Taco, it was about an other stupid take by homer Arc 2.
Like when Golbert touched all the mikes on purpose when covid was going strong with no care for his other team mates. Like that? You are a Green bozer hater so you point is?
Guilty as charged, I don’t like Green. There was a time when I respected his fiery competitiveness but there’s no room in basketball for kicking guys in the nuts, knees to the face, knocking other players legs out from under them or all the crap he pulls. His act has gotten old, he’s just a wannabe and attention seeker.
KAT and Ant were there making mean faces and pulled Green’s arms away but they were the bigger men and decided discretion was the better part of valor. It’s like the first time they squared off this season and Green committed a hard foul on Ant and Ant just told him that nobody’s f’im scared of him, walked away and sunk the free throws.
Thompson hung on as well, McDaniels pulled hard and ripped Klay’s jersey but neither backed down.
look at the video. Thompson arms were down and McDaniels was throwing Thompson around not letting go. Golbert went after Thompson when he could have easily went between them. Videos don’t lie
Jaime Jacquez is absolutely balling right now for Miami. Doing it all! Is the Portland GM still patting himself on the back for the Lillard trade???? Miami won that deal by not participating. A healthy Tyler Herro would be Portland’s best player, and likely new face of the franchise. Scoot not ready right now.
Yet they started building around Scoot (1-21 from behind the arc) before he ever played an NBA game.
Now everybody you traded for is injured. Now you got to worry about the Bulls trading LaVine and DeRozan, and taking assets off the board that could have gone to Brogdon (injured again). Robert Williams???
DeAndre Ayton just had a 5-game stretch where he did NOT attempt a free throw in 4 of the games. What???? This is one of your “core” franchise pieces, who already makes $30 million per, to build your title contender around Scoot. Ayton averages 12 points per game. How does that work with Scoot, who can’t shoot? Ayton = A poor man’s Andre Drummond. Nurkic was fair value. Swapping stiffs.
Foolishness!
Portland is screwed for a while, yes.
I see the pendulum swinging back towards drafting more 4-year college players. Jaquez and others are showing the value of preparation. Getting a capable rotation player for a 4 year rookie scale contract is quite valuable.
I think it more shows the value of having a real system that your team runs, and having a really good head coach, who your team respects.
Look at Miami and their draft picks, and high hit rates of success. Spoelstra. Look at Golden State and their high hit rates of success. Steve Kerr.
How is Jordan Poole doing with “a team of his own” now that he is not in Golden State???
I can say the same about thompson without Curry. Curry gets double teamed more than any other player in the NBA is why his team mates need him.
Poole problem he thought he was as good as Curry but you don’t need to double team Poole.
So glad that POS green got what he deserves. Dude has always been an absolute clown. Never seen someone talk more while putting up a 5-5-5 statline.
Really wish Rudy would’ve not been the bigger man. Draymond deserves one right between the eyes
ARC gets the Mute!
Man, I despise Green….he is an idiot and a Clow and a thug and all that stuff and he should have gotten 20 games. BUT….ANYTIME you are the 3rd man in on a fight or a scrum or whatever, you are not being a peacemaker…ALL you are doing is feeding the fire and making the situation more dangerous for everyone. Gobert deserves 10 games for sticking his nose into a situation that he had no place being involved in. If one guys got a dude down on the floor defenseless beating him you pull him off…but if a couple guys are upright and fighting or wrestling around you stay the hell out of it.
Ayton has been a great player for Portland so far this year. No one on the trailblazers get free throws or calls from refs. They have been tanking from day one and everyone (who has Comcast sports upgrade) sees it. PDX doesn’t even care about their fans anymore and seem to be preparing to sell the team. Also when 4-5 of your players are splitting time in the g-league, refs know they can hold their whistles. They are also not allowed to use their athleticism to fast break but seem mandated to run offense by pay scale (boring ISO ball). Look how Billups has abused Sharpe (leading the league in minutes played), causing his regression, shoot this high flyer has been grounded by Billups abuse of PT. You can expect Grant and Sharpe to be on the injured list soon as they tank some more.
